You guys in Vegas....

High Times

Drove around town during rush hour.... One side of Vegas to the other in 20 minutes.
Felt like 1985 again.

Never thought I would enjoy driving around Vegas again during the day....

Went out today for the first time in several to pick up a stockpile order (I do this annually anyway so that I don't have to go out to get stuff when I'm busy, especially during football season) from my health food store and to get the mail from the PO Box.

Two of the restaurants across from the downtown post office were boarded up with hurricane-like boards . . . in the desert. So they at least are prepping for the possibility of civil unrest or at least against possibly more isolated property crime before they reopen.

No restriction on movement around and about, and some traffic on the roads. Foot traffic to an extent on LVB as I was passing through from St. Louis to downtown and back.

I've seen that they have some ghost town video feeds for the Strip itself.

If you scroll through the videos on this no-paywall coronavirus update page on the RJ, you can see some of that ghost town video:

Put some more detail about shopping in the "toilet paper" (lol, the "interesting" times we live in) thread.

nobody will be spending money at first. Vegas & A.C. in trouble. Too many unknowns at this time. Who is getting on a plane anytime soon ? going out to eat?

People still doing those things Mr. Top as we speak. Planes are flying very empty, but its not zero passengers. Restaurants getting so many people waiting for takeout in confined areas you might as well eat in.

I do think the mask idea makes sense for a short time after things open up. Builds more trust, people will see that there isn't a huge resurgence of infections and we'll all get back to almost normal in 2-3 months and the masks can start coming off.

Governor just issued a stay-at-home order, and extended the emergency declaration through April 30, so (a) I think that nixes any casino openings by April 17; and (b) that sharply curtails otherwise discretionary being out and about, subject to specified exceptions.

https://www.reviewjournal.com/news/...da/sisolak-issues-stay-at-home-order-1996415/

If you scroll down to the bottom of the article, a copy of the order, with all the particulars, is copied directly. (Just click out of the annoying popups -- there's no paywall, etc. on this type of story.)

And, John, could you consider adding something along the lines of "Nevada Governor Extends Casino Closures and Issues Stay-at-Home Order" to Viejo's title (hopefully with his blessing) . . . and, bubba, where you been . . . I thought you were maybe still in Costa Rica until I saw that you had done a few discrete threads/responses, you're almost incognito

The opening odds start here
Not a bad idea but they're losing multi- millions as it is. Maybe they'll throw a fixed cherry on the opening spins at 4:5.

My sister lives in Summerlin. Rarely goes near the Strip even when things are "normal"

From what I hear - and we have seen - you could qualify for the Pole Position for the Indy 500 24/7 including Friday and Saturday Nights when normally you could walk across cars to cross LV Blvd.

What’s it like there now?
It's not good, people are turning mean, everyone has masks but not everyone smart enough to practice Social Distancing or understand the concept of a Pandemic. There will probably be bad numbers from here in 4-8 weeks? I went out for first time in 6 Days—Governor ordered Stay a Home Monday I think—to Grocery Store and it's is somewhat pre-Apocalyptic. People are not organized and freaking and no Paper Towels, Toilet Paper and Hand Soap, but Food is there. Semi-Panic mode on April 2. Many dumb fucks lingering in Aisles acting like it's a Holiday though. I have never been there, but it seems we are devolving to Oakland. Stay at Home but way, way, way too many cars. I'd stash Food wherever you may be as this will be here awhile and they may shut down things you wouldn't think. There were 2 guards at store front.

Is the city in shut down mode?
Yes. But Idiots still trying to get away with working under table. Called Apt Manager about Mexicans with noxious Chemicals in their Truck Bed, uncovered. Asked him to smell, he came—bless him for actually doing something (an Australian)—and they quickly wrapped it up, and went upstream. Dystopian Hell where one has to babysit adults. Zzzyx Road smart to leave here. I can't see living here 1 year from now. I feel Las Vegas and USA will probably never be the same. Too many idiots and dodging Life, Disability and a pandemic very hard when Idiots in the mix. We aren't even close to getting hit by the wave, but I am sure many have it as so few have been tested and fewer seem to care. It's the weirdest LV has ever been, but too many acting like it's nothing. Marijuana only available through Delivery and some Bars have Pick-Up (Drive) Drinks I heard on news. City revealing it's true color: Grey.

Anyone seen Fishhead around?
I saw him post on SBR Forum when shit started hitting fan maybe a month ago. I think he wrote he might heading upstate or something.

What are the restrictions ?
People are supposed to stay at home, only go to Grocery store and take short walks. We will all be nuts in 2 weeks. All non-essential businesses are closed until April 30, but Death hasn't really hit hard here yet but with all of these people out and about, I do not feel good about Las Vegas's prospects thru his, despite great Driving Distance rating (A) and Low Fever color code on the map.
The amount of dumb people combined with ignorance of what this is and the reality many are young and new residents doesn't bode well. April and May could be the 2 most important months for the future welfare of Sin City. This curve doesn't seem to be flattening and I fear many think this is just something happening somewhere else. I wore a mask (Survivor buff) around mouth for the first time. The casinos are ghost towns and making the Slots payout better won't help as it's hard to see people from age 40-90 not changing behaviors because of Fear, like touching machines, being around people, Travel and Planes. 9/11 put a big dent in Las Vegas but we recovered. This feels very bad and may change the city forever, despite any positivity, campaigns or fake smiles. Las Vegas sort of sucked before (non-Strip), and now it's a little like Purgatory with Pepsi and OJ Simpson living here. Hard to see things opening up on May 1 with everyone being so dumb. I didn't see this when indoors the L5 days. The whole country seems pretty sad. Whoever started the Toilet Paper thread may have been on to something. Days when Lysol and Toilet Paper are more valuable than a $100 casino chip.

Scary. Really scary. And it might get even worse. MUCH worse.

Come on, calm down. These conditions existed in Denver when I left weeks ago. The whole shelter in place meant nothing, almost all non essential businesses were closed before the order went out. I had a number of Vegas residents send me messages about it like it's the end of the world that they can't go outside legally. Most of the country already knows such conditions, even if you do go out what are you going to do? Only thing that changes is the police can fine you but they aren't going out of their way to enforce it, just if you do something very against the ruling like have some massive block party will they intervene. It's still nothing like the Asian lock downs where one designated family member per house can go out once or twice a week to a grocery store and thats it.

Exactly. The biggest changes I've seen is the noticable lack of traffic (many working from home), and businesses closing earlier. There really isn't much reason to be out after 9PM unless you are leaving work.

I saw the parking lot ? or area where there were spaces / boxes that looked like a keno ticket.....for social distancing, for the homeless...........they had to sleep on the pavement?...i think......i saw this on twitter (vital vegas )........it was very sad, that this was the homeless people fate. The homeless shelter system must have been over whelmed . I saw this several days ago.
