The island nations do have an advantage of restricting traffic. They have done a much better job than Australia, which was slower. Hawaii had much lower numbers also until it really cut into their travel economy.

What was the cost of the lockdown in economic and human terms, that's the problem. Of course a real lockdown will reduce transmission, but when you reopen you're right back where you started, so why do it?

Hospitals in the UK have been told to expect a vaccine in the second week of Nov. Assuming that happens, how long would it take our FDA to approve it for use here? one would hope a couple weeks but it wouldn't surprise me if it's a month. Everyday they wait costs lives and misery.

I would say next May seems like a reasonable target for something good and effective

Supposedly we have orders for 100 million doses by the end of the year, that are already being mfg, so once approval comes it should be ready to go oout very quickly. After that the orders are for something like 20-30 million /month from each manufacturer, so if 2 or 3 are approved there should be plenty for everyone. If by some chance only 1 was approved, that would slow thing s down.

I would expect by the end of 2020 - 2 months from now, at least 50 million people will have been vaccinated.
