Your User Name

I thought it might be interesting to start a thread finding out why we chose our user names, now some are obvious, but others not so much. When I was in high school there was a kid in my class named Kane, I always thought it was a cool name, and when I joined my first forum and had to think of a name, Kane popped into my head, also I'm a Miami Canes fan, so Kane seemed like a good choice. Let's see the stories behind your names.

A mostly good-natured jab at all the self anointed sharps in Las Vegas.

And a friendgirl (she could call herself anything that she wanted, as long as it was with benefits, lol) back in Sunset, Louisiana -- as a single mom -- loved the heck out of SpongeBob.

TYVM Morgan William!!!
Told this before, but

Late 80s/early 90s, CBS ran some ad promoting their Sports part of the company. It was some school play but then Madden and more "take it over" once some kid looks at them and winks. Someone I worked with at KTLA thought I looked like the kid so he asked me to wink to see if he was right. I did and from that point on those guys called me: Wink

Fast forward a handful of years when I get a job in Sept 1993 working for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on their Game Day Stats Crew. Same friend wanted to come up with a new name for me, one that combined "Wink" and the fact I worked for the ducks and came up with: Winkyduck

It has stuck for over 25 years. All of the guys from KTLA and all call me Wink or Winkyduck. If I call them and say "This is Erik" they wouldn't know who I was - although the number on their cell would show it. If I say "This is Wink" they know who I am. The friend who gave me the name has 4 kids and they all called me Winkyduck and would "Quack, Quack" after doing so. It shows my friends care about me so I am OK with it. They have all been amazing in supporting me in my present situation and I am forever grateful for it.

Always saw the name OLDSANDBAGGER at EOG.

Finally met the man behind the screen name here in Costa Rica.

Embarrassed to report I asked the question, "How did the name "OLDS and BAGGER" originate?"

OLD SAND BAGGER looked at me like I had three eyes.

Whoops!

Good stuff guys, thanks for responding, hopefully more people post and tell the background story behind their names. John Kelly, no need to explain your name, LOL

First grandson name + year he was born. Hopefully he forgives me when he's old enough to realize his grandpa hung around gambling sites, gambles and used his name.

Brayden, when your grandson is old enough, he just might be a gambler himself and posting on gambling sites like this one, you never know, gambling is becoming more mainstream everyday, thanks for sharing

I can give my derivation:

*Chucky was my old dog, so name keeps him alive. I thought he looked like a grazing goat.

Named him after Ole Miss DB Chucky Mullins, who tragically passed after being paralyzed during in-game collision. Think about it:

Chucky (Mullins), The Greatest Of All Time.

My late teens or early 20's I was a rink rat. Hung around the ice arenas and played 5-7 nights a week. I had long hair at the time and used to skate with a red sweatband. One of the Red Wings at the time was Henry Boucha. I'm not Indian and really don't look like him but had the same hair and headband Henry used to wear. Eventually, the guys started calling me Boucha. A friend went out of town and bought me a jersey and had it engraved or sewn my name on the back and spelled it wrong. He spelled it Bushay. Been going by that name ever since.

Prop bet gone bad at commerce casino 2009. Went bust that summer. Changed my screen names on full tilt poker and pokerstars when I arrived back home and had rebuilt enough of a bankroll to play again. Like comptr Bob ran out of characters. Hate the name now tbh but good reminder of bad bankroll management will lead to really horrible life decisions.

Was a dinosaur when offshore went to online and computers.....Viejo means old.......

Bookmaking was fun during the 70s and 80s....definite advantage to the books....was just like stealing....

Now the players have the upper hand even at -110....so many options and opportunities for the player...

It is much easier to win than it used to be....but only for those who work hard and take advantage of what the books have to offer.....

Mine was goofing on all the supposed experts that bragged and knew everything about winning at sports betting, when I first got the internet in the late 90's, and started following this stuff on the rec.sports gambling newsgroup. In the end, we're all Just Guessing.

Never realized your user named was tied to Henry Boucha!!! His red headband was worn in the days before helmets were a requirement! I recall he was badly injured, taking a high stick to the face or something like that, and never was the same again.

I'm from Nor-Cal (is there really any other part worth a crap?) - The former Wristwrestling Capital of the World, Petaluma, used to be on ABC's Wide World of Sports every year. Played the Big 3 in HS, Football basketball Baseball. My HS hoops coach was only 5-6 years older than us. He was beginning a career as a College Hoops Official. I got interested and went to a few games with him. He moved up quickly, was Pac-12, WAC, Mountain West, ect. I started off with some Summer league stuff, moved into CYO, Frosh, then JV and Varsity. Ended up doing some JC and Summer leagues where College and some NBA guys got their work in. Highlight: Nor-Cal girls playoff game in Oakland before a Warriors game. Or the Nor-Cal CYO 8th grade Championship game. Was a lot of fun! My Mentor Mark Reischling did several Final Fours, still involved with the Pac 12.

I'm unbeaten at the Petaluma Card Room just off 101. They had a sign up bonus for new player cards. I went in, saw the BJ rules weren't great, played my bonus for one hand and got a blackjack. Took my chips and left and cashed at the cage and never came back.

GO Bucks!!!
Was coming over from the RX. Journeyman gave me a fing headache. As I was signing up, my kid wanted me to check his home work. He got them almost all right. I spelled it wrong just to be a douche.

I used to gamble with a bunch of guys. Every time one of us had a bad beat we would say "you unlucky son of a bitch." Name kinda stuck with me.

Nice thread idea, Kane.

I usually go by my given name Walter but when I need an extra edge to do my dirty work I put on my sunglasses and top hat and go by Heisenberg

Heim is short for Anaheim.

On the radio, I always wanted to tell the origins of Heim's nickname or screen name, lest someone got the wrong idea.
