Default NASCAR: Countdown to the Daytona 500 Preview

NASCAR: Countdown to the Daytona 500 Preview

The 49th running of the "Great American Race" takes place on Sunday as Jimmie Johnson tries to defend his title. Johnson has the best active record in the race with an average finish of 5.8. Johnson has been a win machine pretty much everywhere including Daytona. The early betting on the odds to win at SBG Global shows that the public is heavy on Tony Stewart to win it all.

This has been a difficult week for NASCAR as they have had to hand down penalties to teams for infractions in regards to the cars. Michael Waltrip's team had the most severe penalty but Matt Kenseth and Kasey Kahne are two other top drivers that had to pay a penalty for cars not passing inspection.

Even Jeff Gordon has to start at the back of the field on Sunday because his car failed an inspection, although NASCAR said the violation was minor and unintentional. Gordon has won the Daytona 500 three times and is always a threat.

Check out the latest Daytona 500 odds at SBG Global.

Both of the Busch brothers looked good in Thursday's qualifying and could be threats. Kyle Busch is part of the Hendrick family of drivers and could join Johnson and Gordon as a winner of the big race this season. The other main threat and the favorite to win the race this year is Tony Stewart. He won one of the qualifying races on Thursday. He also won the Bud Shootout as well but he has never won the Daytona 500. His best finish was second in 2004.

Other possible winners this year include Kevin Harvick and rookie David Gilliland who won the pole. Gilliland has received high praise this week from other drivers as having a real shot to win. You also can't forget Dale Earnhardt Jr. who has usually been very strong at restrictor plate races for many years.

If you are looking for an upset winner at decent odds then strongly consider Gilliland who has looked strong all week. He would be a definite upset winner and is currently listed at about 15-1. If you are looking more toward a favorite then you have to go with Tony Stewart who has looked extremely strong in every preliminary race this week.
