much better lately, without all the gimmicks.

1 - good. no news is good news.

2 - don't play 'em.

3 - lately its been good. don't content censor, ever. ban posters or allow posters, period. have clear & concise rules.

4 - it feels like a home for wayward boys, but yeah...

5 - go back to being a pure player watchdog site & make advertisers know that's the case when they sign up so you don't have to walk on eggshells when disputes arise. in other words, become a source for players that advertisers want to tap rather than the opposite.

I would never consider this my "home" until this happened.

Unless the site helps protect players without the conflict of interests of taking books ad money and getting a cut of players losses, there is no way my best interested are being taken care of as well. It's not possible.

At least, not yet.

The Munchkin Man has been trying to provide him with some personal guidance and direction on another forum.

According to the Munchkin Man's best judgement, he is not ready to return yet.

The Munchkin Man will let you know, if and when the Munchkin Man has reached a proper determination that he has reached a state of sufficient mental fitness and personal rehabilitation that will enable him to return and post with civility with the civilized fraternity of posters who belong to the community of EOG.

The Munchkin Man would like to thank you for your recommendation.

The Munchkin Man feels deeply honored that anybody would recommend the Munchkin Man for such a distinguished position with such important responsibilities.

Unfortunately, the Munchkin Man's knowledge of sports is very limited, with the exception of a little bit of old time New York Yankee baseball and old time professional wrestling.

Furthermore, the Munchkin Man knows next to nothing about sports gambling.

Most of the vocabulary used in sports gambling discussions is Greek to the Munchkin Man.

For the above reasons, the Munchkin Man would not feel qualified for such an important job.

The Munchkin Man would not be an asset.

Unless...........................

The Munchkin Man could become a Moderator of the Politics and Government Forum only.

The Munchkin Man feels much more comfortable and competent in this arena.

Given the Munchkin Man's sense of fair play, coupled with the Munchkin Man's utmost concern for the equitable treatment of his fellow posters, the Munchkin Man believes he would be supremely qualified to govern with effectiveness on the Politics and Government Forum.

However, the Munchkin Man will first most likely need some one-on-one tutorial instruction on how to handle the additional software tools required to execute the important duties of a Moderator.

The Munchkin Man's level of computer literacy is admittedly a little weak.

Nevertheless, the Munchkin Man thanks you once again for your recommendation.

Shrink, the fact that you ask these questions speaks volumes about the care and concern you have for this forum. I find the mods here to be much friendlier than some of its rivals and that sets the tone for a more enjoyable forum.

Thanks for sharing the story about your Munich Olympics experience. I can only imagine how that changed your perspective of the world.

Voltaire was a favorite philosopher of many of the Founding Fathers. He once said: "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it." That concept is the cornerstone of the most important Amendment of the Bill of Rights.
The know-nothings, BushCo boot-lickers and wacky-fringe thumpers whose whining finally banned doc obviously don't believe that this great experiment founded by Washington, Jefferson, Hamilton, et al. was set up correctly. Anyone who peruses the political forum for even a short amount of time soon discovers that there are other freedoms that Americans enjoy which the trolls and mouth-breathers would like to curtail--in addition to speech which they disagree with. (Insert smiley face waving American flag here).

This has been done here piecemeal, but not in an organized, easily-accessible manner. I have learned more here in nearly two years than I learned in the previous 15 on my own. Tuck has an excellent idea; centralizing the many "tips" here would serve to educate the players. Educated players are more confident players; more confident players might tend to post up with more books and increase their units per play. . .Win-win. . .

Although i will respect your right to speak your mind,i cannot defend your freedom of speech to the death!
I believe your mind is simply too prejudiced to offer an unbiased difference of opinion, well with a high percentage anyway ?
Do you not recognize yourself habitually leaning ,what, 90 % to the left?

I haven't the time or the inclination to figure out how to split up a quoted post to answer in detail. Ergo, the reader will have to match the response to the original premise:

1) Okay, then you disagree with Voltaire; that's fine, it's called "free speech" for a reason.

2) Then you only believe in free speech for those who agree with you.

3) If the zealous defense of the Constitution of the United States is what you consider to be "habitually leaning to the left," then doesn't that say more about you than me?

Many thanks. I only wish I could share your "hope." History has a tendency to repeat itself; I'm afraid I know how this movie ends. I keep tilting at windmills in my day job more because I'm just ornery rather than because I think it'll do any good. . .By and large, I think "We the People" get the government we deserve.

Sorry, but it's very hard for me to respect "any"opinion CONSISTENTLY leaning, "too far", either direction !
And I believe you to be an intelligent man 4625,and with your intelligence you have to know, the real strength in THE TRUTH, is closer to being to the "middle" !

The question of whether you--or anyone--"respects" my opinion (while interesting, no doubt), is completely immaterial to the issue at hand; which, I remind all is the value of free speech.

I would be very depressed if I thought that this life was the only life we would ever get. I try to stay positive and happy and spread good will wherever I go. I think I am wiser now that I am older eventhough I like to say that I hit my intellectual peak at the age of 8.

I operate with the understanding that I could be wrong about how this thing turns out. I was the guy back in the late 70s/early 80s that just KNEW we were going to go toe-to-toe with the Ruskies slinging some serious megatonnage. I viewed the movie Red Dawn as prescient foretelling of the future. Thankfully, history turned out the way it did.
As for individual verdicts, I pretty much go with the worm-food result; I think if there was a Second Act to the show, somebody would have gotten definative, verifiable word to us by now before intermission. . .

Greetings Thor4140:

The Munchkin Man hears and understands your concern.

Indeed, the Munchkin Man's overall political orientation is generally located somewhere along the right hand wing of the political spectrum.

On the other hand:

If a miracle from Heaven were to occur, allowing the Munchkin Man to become a PAID Moderator of the Politics and Government Forum, the Munchkin Man WOULD BE FAIR.

The Munchkin Man could use the money earned to get his car fixed, so it can pass its state inspection, thus allowing the Munchkin Man to resume his private math tutoring busines, and also to buy some new clothes, including that new pair of walking shoes the Munchkin Man has not yet been able to afford to buy.

If this job opportunity became available to the Munchkin Man, you would be able to sleep soundly at night, knowing that the Munchkin Man would call it right down the middle.

The first thing the Munchkin Man would do is rewrite the EOG Politics and Government Posting Rules and Guidelines in concrete terms that are behavioral, measurable, observable, and verifiable.

The Munchkin Man would also post a tutorial thread which provided examples of acceptable and unacceptable posting behavior, including a Q & A thread, as well.

The Munchkin Man's primary agenda would not be to ban other posters.

Instead, the Munchkin Man's primary agenda would be to teach offending posters more acceptable ways to express themselves.

The Munchkin Man is going to use the rule against name calling as an example.

Suppose that Mr. 4625 got his wish that Doc Mercer became reinstated to the EOG posting forums with full posting priviliges.

Suppose further that Doc Mercer wanted to express his opinion that another poster is a racist.

The following illustrates an unacceptable way to express this opinion, followed by a few acceptable ones.

UNACCEPTABLE:
"You are a racist."

ACCEPTABLE:
"Doc Mercer thinks you are a racist."

ACCEPTABLE:
"(First person pronoun) think you are a racist."

ACCEPTABLE:
"In Doc Mercer's opinion, you are a racist."

ACCEPTABLE:
"In (insert first person possessive pronoun) opinion, you are a racist."

In the first example, the first poster has called the second poster a name (e.g., a racist), as if it were an absolute fact.

In the other examples, the first poster is taking ownership, and therefore responsibility, for their opinion that the other poster is a racist, without stating it as an absolute fact.

If a poster really feels a need to "insult" another poster, there are ways of going about it with greater tact and civility, without actually and literally and technically "insulting" that poster, as the examples above illustrate.

This is only one single example of the type of "tutorial" the Munchkin Man would provide.

The Munchkin Man would only ban a poster after several violations, several warnings, and then after one final warning.

Even if the great and wise Rush Limbaugh, whom the Munchkin Man admires dearly, were to join the EOG Politics and Government Forum, the Munchkin Man would treat him with the same level of equitable treatment as all the other posters.

The Munchkin Man would not cut him any slack.

The Munchkin Man would even ban him if he crossed the line after too many violations, in spite of the crying spell the Munchkin Man would have afterwards.

Munchkin's Honor.

Unfortunately, the Munchkin Man's lack of computer literacy may be a barrier.

The Munchkin Man would need a one-on-one tutorial session on how to operate the software which comes with the responsibilities of being a Moderator of EOG.

The Munchkin Man is somewhat learning disabled when it comes to the learning of new and unfamiliar tasks with mechanical and elctronic equipment, and the Munchkin Man would need some one-on-one instruction in order to learn these new tasks.

The Munchkin Man does not have to cheat in Checkers in order to win.

The Munchkin Man would like to invite you to play the Munchkin Man in a friendly game of Checkers at the following site:

This site will not let you cheat at Checkers.

You can join for free.

Just let the Munchkin Man know what your User Name is, and the Munchkin Man will contact you on this site and challenge you to a friendly game.

Good luck!

The Munchkin Man also likes and supprts this idea.

Maybe the Munchkin Man will finally be able to learn something about sports gambling.

On the other hand, if the Munchkin Man's track record with his stock picking is any indication of how the Munchkin Man would do at sports gambling, then maybe the Munchkin Man would be better off refraining from sports gambling, and stick to Checkers instead.

Or maybe the Munchkin Man can try his luck with sports gambling "on paper" instead of betting with any real money, which the Munchkin Man doesn't have right now anyway.

At the very least, this idea will hopefully help the Munchkin Man learn enough to finally understand what people are talking about in their sports gambling posts.

This would be a big boost for the Munchkin Man's self-esteem.

Best Wishes,

Munchkin Man
