Arrow Should We Ever Allow Picks Threads In This Forum?

I know we've had this discussion before, but we've got some changes ahead and some new posters join EOG since then...

I'd love to hear your thoughts?

Thanks,

Angels, the problem occurs when trying to determine where to draw the line. For instance, if one person posts their picks in the main room then others want to do the same.

Then there are several picks in the main room and not as many in the separate forums.

Put the picks, including yours, in the appropriate forum. If a capper then wants to make a note in this forum letting the world know they have a "lock" then the person can make their way to that forum to look at the selection.

Like many things ...it depends.

For major sports there are folders that are the obvious place but if I have a really good pick on Chinese snooker then I can either post it in the main forum or not bother at all, since the folder for minor sports is basically unread.

That makes sense...

Some people who spend most of their time over here just have to get used to checking out the sports forums more regularly, myself included...

I think all picks (even Mr Ws) should go in the appropriate forum. By allowing picks in the main forum, doesnt give the perception that the picks in the others forums arent as strong. Anyone who has visited more than the main room knows that there are very strong handicappers on this site that hardly ever (maybe even never) visit the main forum.

If you are gambling and need help they should no to go to the correct section to find help. The main forum is not for sports picks only discussions among posters.

I think OSU has got it right. We need more traffic in the sports forums anyway. I remember when a respected poster had a hockey selection, I was wishing it was in the hockey room because there's not much action there.

I have always felt that picks mainly belong only in the sports forums. There are some exceptions and I think EOG is good about making the right call on what stays in main and what doesn't.

Was going to suggest similar myself.

Have 1 Big "Whatcha got today/tonight" thread for everyone to post their picks in so we can see what everybody is playing.

Could also compare notes and form some consensus plays. Would also help draw interest to the "In-Game" threads imo

In No way should Picks be in the Main room. Defeats the purpose of the Sports Forums. Like NickP said.. we have many many good cappers here that don't get noticed. I would be more welcome to go along with Woody's Idea on obscure sports if you have a great pick or solid information.... I don't even like the thought of an attention whore thread saying "Great Info/Top Pick I just posted in Blah blah forum" ...

Not trying to be a smart ass, but let's suppose we had a BEST BET of the day/night thread that allowed for any sport going on at that time to be chosen...

Where would this fit?

Best Bet should be in main forum, simply because it's universal.

Best Bets should be in each sports forum, for each individual sport separately.

I agree and I'd like to see more of this going on in each sports forum as well as in this one (universal)....

You do realize that if this takes off, tracking can become very difficult. It's time consuming. Unless one of the tech guys can come up with an automated script of some sort to make it easier.

One of the mods across the street does it, and he seems to have his hands full. Another thing to look into would be a tracker forum like the pharmacy has, I always liked that idea.

Yeah, but looking at the views they are getting (very low), I am just wondering if perhaps it wouldn't be better to place them here?

Just a thought for our posters to think about...

ken , you own the damn place! do what you want. picks on main page would be more 'sports' related than many , if not most , threads started by your mods and the butt licker.

I'm new here-but make things simple -If I have a Baseball pick-it goes in the Baseball forum! And so on!! General opinions about a topic in a sport can go either in that sport-OR in the main forum-even though I think it should be tagged to that particular sport!! Hope this makes easy sense!!!

Just FYI Dirty I had no idea what you were talking about until clicked that link. (and I am on EOG as much as any SANE person should be) I think that maybe there should be a "sticky" in the General Forum to let people know it is out there. Looking at the views one can see it hasnt caught on just yet.

it used to be Very popular when the forum first opened until about 18 months ago..but once people start losing they don't post...and at the end we only had about 10 regular posters doing it if we were lucky...

What you suggested is not a bad idea... Tuckman and rinkrat posted in the main room for almost a month straight to drum up interest for it when they started it back... and no one hardly would respond.

I DON'T THINK ANYONE SHOULD EVER BE THE KIND OF ASSHOLE THAT WOULD POST PICKS IN THE MAIN FORUM. WHAT KIND OF PRICK WOULD DO THAT WHEN THEY CAN JUST GO TO THE BASEBALL FORUM?
by the way, i like boston tonight matsuzaka -175.
.148 opponent batting average on the road, and the red sox have won all 10 of his starts.

I'd say restrict the picks to the forums where they are less likely to be seen.

That way posters will be less likely to be hurt by them..

i think i have expressed my opinion on this before but here it goes. when there is a big game...lak/spurs for instance tonight, i think its cool to start "1" thread and just see who everyone likes and why. but by no means should people start a ton of threads for the dozen baseball games and shit. it just clogs up stuff. those picks should go in the proper forum. the problem is that there are waaaayyyyy too many off topic bullshit threads in the main forum already. if i want to see 5 threads on who likes the yankees tonight, i will go to the baseball forum where they those threads should be posted.

so to recap, special games only in the main forum and only 1 thread about it would make it so much easier

Depends on the poster and the type of play it is. Certain posters deserve the level of respect to have it posted wherever they want. If I ever post a play here it will be in this main forum for everyone to see easily in an identifiable thread so you know it is a big play for me. If it were to be moved I would just say fuck it and not post any more of them. Now if this became a regular occurrence then it should not be allowed.
