For story telling, events happening, and comedy, it was Shawshank...for pure acting it was the Hustler...both were great; tough matchup

My uncle was a cop in New York City the year that the Hustler came out. We went to visit him in the city and he asked us if we wanted to go to the movies. He took us to a back door and in a minute the door was opened to let us into the theater. At the time, I thought it was the best movies I had ever saw.

Let's not forget, the Hustler was in black and white. Remember when Gleason was coming up the steps at Ames pool parlour and the door gets opened for him by one of the lackeys? And in he steps, the epitomy of "cool"!

its a better movie, period. although the other was certainly entertaining and done well also.
