You didn't hear about the recall? There was a recent urgent notice from MS to abort any installations or roll back immediately, security violations. I can get the link if you want. |

So often these updates create more problems than they fix. |

How did you get Service Pack 3? Automatic Update? I just went to Microsoft's Update page and could not get any response for 15 minutes....it just had the green bar going back and forth which said : "Checking for the latest updates for your computer". It never stopped. Worried now about my computer. |

I get notified automatically for updates (which I manually check) and installed SP3 a day or two ago. There wasn't much extra in it judging by the time it took to install. Doesn't seem to have made any difference FWIW. |

It F#c#ed up my computer so bad that had to do a system restore to get rid of it. According to the folks at HP, something must have interrupted the download. (Took 36 minutes to download) I should have waited for the notice. System Restore caused loss of free disk space on my computer. Is that normal? |

I think now it was Spybot that caused it. Because it kept telling me changes were being made to the registry --did I want to allow them. About 3 instances. Need to totally uninstall that and try later. |

First rule of personal computing.. "If it ain't broke, don't upgrade it." These "easy, quick" upgrades always seem to lead to heartbreak. |

But System Restore takes your computer back in time to whatever date. (At least that's what their tech did last night. We just went back to 1 day before the download attempt). But when I do a Search it shows up as a blue file and another one. I don't know. Maybe have to end up doing a Recovery which means I lose everything and have a clean computer. HP really wanted to refer me to Microsoft. | |

Money well spent. HP tech just called me to see how computer was working today. He said that Microsoft is aware that some computers are having problems with XP3 and will be releasing a new version. But in the meantime just do the automatic updates and keep my virus scanner up to date and computer should be fine. ![]() |
