Is she following a 'conventional' path?

Will the beltway bozos and David Gutterman's New York cocktail pals label her a quitter (and god knows what else!)?

A scandal twice the size of Ted Stevens’ is brewing for Sarah Palin. No, it’s not the troopergate report, which in its own right is a monumental scandal, but one that hasn’t hit the mainstream media yet. This one’s a doozie. A half million dollar doozie.

The home was constructed in 2002, right before Sarah Palin’s tenure as the director of Ted Stevens’ PAC, Ted Stevens Excellence in Public Service, Incorporated. Ted Stevens, you may recall, was indicted for taking a quarter of a million dollars worth of gifts in the form of construction on his Alaskan cabin, and there are potential striking similarities to Sarah Palin’s situation. Not only is it improbable that Todd Palin built an almost 4,000 square foot luxury home with a ‘couple of buddies’, but it is looking as though Todd Palin had very little to do with the construction other than supervision.

Spenard Building Supplies has connections to Ted Stevens indictment, but also the Murkowskis. They have been a major contributor to Murkowski’s daughter’s Senate run. Frank Murkowski was the center of a massive corruption probe, with his Chief of Staff, Jim Clark, being found guilty in a conspiracy involving Veco, the company at the center of the Ted Stevens corruption scandal. Spenard worked with Veco on Stevens cabin.

So, Sarah Palin’s home involves a company involved with Ted Stevens, Palin became the director of Ted Stevens PAC within months after the home was built, and there is a plausible quid pro quo with the involvement of the $12,500,000 Wasilla sports complex. These connections are proven with city, state and court documents, the question now is whether Palin’s home had any amount of work contributed by Spenard, Veco, Burkhart, or any other contractors involved with the building of the Wasilla sports complex. My guess? There’s more to this story than has been uncovered so far. Todd Palin didn’t build a nearly 4,000 square foot luxury, lakeside home valued at over $500,000 by himself. Who helped him build it?

Look for her to announce a run for US Senate in the Nov 2010 election which will begin with her knocking off incumbent Lisa Murkowski in the Alaska Republican primary.

With a successful six years and a reelection in 2016, Mrs Palin would be setting herself up nicely for a Presidential bid in 2020, at which time she would be age 56.

1) It was hardly a 'blowout'. Hussein won 52.something of the vote. What do you call a blowout?

2) McCain got a spike right after he announced his running mate -- less than 24 hours after Hussein's big speech in Denver AND was LEADING in the polls. As I said, McCain's lead evaporated after his mishandling of the financial crisis.

3) How anyone could deny that McCain wasn't popular among conservatives (with or without Palin), is beyond me. Gang of 14, McCain-Feingold...on and on.

4) The conventional wisdom from the liberal media which suggested he would bring in more 'moderates' fell on it's ass during crunch time. Everyone knows the lib media only sucks up to RINOs like McCain when they are bashing Republicans. As soon as McCain won the nomination, the daggers came out. I remember the NY Slimes doing a hit piece on his wife before the champagne corks were popping.

Like I said, tank, learn to think for yourself.

Mark, given the absolute shambles of the Republican party here in our country, it's not beyond the pale that Palin might announce some kind of candidacy for the 2012 Republican Presidential primaries, so I would not bet against it at the risk of losing this low-traffic venue where I can honk your non-American booty whenever I desire.

Methinks though any such "run" by her would suffer a fate similar to that of Fred D Thompson in 2008 - garnering less than 10% of any national Republican support.

The former GOP vice presidential candidate's surprise resignation as Alaska governor had set off speculation, including rumors of a pending federal corruption probe or charges.

Reporting from Washington -- A day after Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin resigned, a federal official in her home state dismissed one potential explanation for her sudden and unexpected resignation: a rumored FBI investigation into the former Wasilla mayor on public corruption charges.

Despite rumors of a looming controversy after the Republican governor's surprise announcement Friday that she would leave office this month, some of them published in the blogosphere, the FBI's Alaska spokesman said the bureau had no investigation into Palin for her activities as governor, as mayor or in any other capacity.

"There is absolutely no truth to those rumors that we're investigating her or getting ready to indict her," Special Agent Eric Gonzalez said in a phone interview Saturday. "It's just not true." He added that there was "no wiggle room" in his comments for any kind of inquiry.

The FBI has been active in mounting corruption investigations in Alaska, some to see whether local, state and federal lawmakers illegally received favors, money or free construction work from businesses or people seeking favors.

The most high-profile case was against former Republican Sen. Ted Stevens, whose conviction last year on charges of lying on Senate ethics forms stemmed from charges that a politically connected developer had done work on his house illegally.

The Obama administration Justice Department threw out the charges in April, saying prosecutors had failed to turn over potentially helpful information to Stevens' defense team. Some bloggers have speculated that such an FBI investigation was underway on Palin, who still had 18 months left in her term.

Also Saturday, the former GOP vice presidential nominee posted a statement on her Facebook page, not offering specifics but indicating that she had broad goals after she leaves the governor's office.

She did not say whether she planned to run for president in 2012, but criticized media coverage of her announcement:

"How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it's about country. And though it's honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make."
