Thread: I heard Billy Walters bet 2 Million Dollars on The Super Bowl

To my knowledge, the largest amounts of money ever wagered in a Las Vegas casino on a Super Bowl were:

    1. SF/San Diego where a father and his son risked 2.4 million dollars on the ML to win $300,000. That became national news.

    2. NE/St. Louis where somebody bet the ML in excess of 4 million dollars to win 1 million. I believe this was at the Mirage.

    3. SF/Cinn in January, 1989, where supposedly, Bob Stupak wagered a million dollars on Cincy +7 with Gene Mayday at Little Ceasar's. He won, and presented Mayday with a little "spaceship car" that stood out in front of Mayday's place until the time of his death in 1994. Some people question whether the whole thing wasn't a publicity stunt.

This supposed BW bet would be the largest exposure for a casino ever in a Super Bowl. And if it is really true, it should be in the newspaper somewhere very shortly.

As I said on the previous page, amazing to see how many people root against a guy because he' successful and they're not. Just natural born haters.

GL to you and Billy. That's a hell of a lot of money, and I may have to go get myself some as well.

Sometimes you know the guy making the bet, and sometimes you know the people taking the bet.

And trust me, you haven't seen it all yet.

But in the history of Las Vegas sportsbooks, to my knowledge, this would be the largest exposure that any casino has ever had on ONE BET. And that would have been sure to be picked up by one of the journalists in town. And all this in an age where casinos are looking to limit the size of bets.

Seems kind of unlikely, doesn't it?

    Two questions for you, Shrink.

    1. Did Billy Walters really tell you this directly?

    2. And if he did, why would you violate his confidence by posting it on your website?

That doesn't seem to be a good way to ingratiate yourself to him, if as Timely Hitting points out, he is trying to keep it confidential.

I am always intereted in the psychology of it.

Using Ivey as the 'beard" in this case is brilliant considering the amount of $ he throws around at Bellagio. If in fact Ivey placed the bet, then the Bellagio would most certainly take it considering he is a poker whale and also plays craps for high stakes in the pits. I always wondered if big syndicates employed these now"flush" poker players like a Phil Ivey to get their $ down without raising suspicion or having their bet not be taken b/c of who would be placing it. They make the perfect "beard'.

That would be the worst middle opportunity in the history of gambling. Not a likely combination from the worlds biggest and best sports bettor.

    My .02.

Can ya break these down for me?

    Colts -1 2050=1000
    Colts ML 2350=1000
    Saints +7 1330=1000
    AFC PK 1270=1000

I'm not saying it didn't happen, but there would be tremendous tax consequences. No way any casino is not filing a 1099 to pay a winning $2 MM bet. I believe they'd be taking a lot of heat from the NGC. Seems like Ivey would be taking a pretty big risk. By the time BW pays Ivey for that risk, he's laying a pretty big price on the game. Doesn't make a lot of sense considering this is the one game all year he could probably get down $2 MM in Vegas. There are 6 figure bets being made every day at every casino. I've got absolutely no idea what transpired. It just seems like alot of smart people doing stupid things. Of course I could be wrong.

Ivey puts down $1m on Super Bowl bet

    January 31

By: Sarah Polson It's no secret that one of the big games that people like to put money down on is the NFL's Super Bowl.
While most people are probably risking a few bucks, maybe a couple hundred, there are a rare few willing to stake some eye-popping amounts of money.
One of those people, it turns out, is Phil Ivey. During his weekly chat with Barry Greenstein on PokerRoadRadio, Ivey said he was calling from the floor of the Bellagio while he was waiting to find out if they would take his $1 million bet on the Super Bowl.
Ivey wasn't willing to divulge what side that money was going down on though. In the conversation Greenstein alluded to some inside knowledge Ivey might have on the teams, but neither of them said what team that could lead to a bet on.
"People are always complaining that Bellagio won't take a couple of grand on a game," said ActionFreak in a 2+2 thread on Ivey's bet, which explains why Ivey was waiting to find out from Bellagio officials if they'd take his bet.
According to Ivey's conversation with Greenstein, the Bellagio must have liked the action they were getting, because they were going let him place the bet.
This isn't the first time Ivey has shown he likes some action to keep things exciting. The poker pro plays at some of the highest stakes on Full Tilt Poker, and recently he accepted Tom "durrrr" Dwan's million-dollar challenge as well.
He's also been known to do a little wagering on his golf games as well.
Not that he's any different from many of the pro poker players out there. Players are often making all sorts of bets with one another, whether on pro sports, games they're playing in themselves or prop bets.
Almost nothing is off-limits when it comes to pro players amusing themselves with side action - just ask Doyle Brunson, who recently decided to gamble against death.

    Lang claims to be 17-0-2

As for Ivey - he suffered one of the all-time most brutal BAD BEATS EVER last year

He had Cards +3.5 for 1h

We all know how 1h ended last year and anyone who had Cards +3.5 lost on a 1-in-a-trillion kinda play
