Bud Black, Nationals have contract issues, team reportedly reconsidering Dusty Baker

Five days after the Washington Nationals picked veteran Bud Black to be their next manager, the team did not announce a hiring Monday because contract talks crumbled over the weekend, according to people familiar with the situation. The deal wasn’t expected to be announced until after a contract was signed and after the World Series. But the playoffs ended Sunday and there was still no public word from the team Monday, a sign that a deal between the two was in jeopardy.

And according to a CBS Sports report late Monday night, the Nationals have even circled back to the other finalist, Dusty Baker, the veteran who last managed in 2013 with the Cincinnati Reds, and intend to offer him the job. Messages for Black, Baker and Nationals General Manager Mike Rizzo were not immediately returned.

The Nationals chose Black on Wednesday, but the terms had to be ironed out. According to another person familiar with the situation, Black was “deeply offended” by the Nationals’ first offer and the talks didn’t get back on track after that. According to a tweet from an account believed to belong to Black’s wife, the initial offer was for one-year, $1.6 million.

Will Dusty Baker put his 16-YO son on the press table to shield him from tough questions like he did in Chicago?

With that bullpen, Dusty has no choice but to leave his starters in too long. Yesterday was the 4th game they've lost this year leading by 2 or more runs heading to the 9th inning.

It's number 6 leading after 8 which leads the majors. I had them yesterday. I can't believe he didn't bring Romero in to face Jay especially after Treinen had lost it after nailing Candelario in the knee.

Amazing they traded for Papelbon a couple of years ago when their current closer (Storen) had like 30 saves and a sub-2.00 ERA at the All-Star Break, but they haven't done it to fix this mess. They actually signed K-Rod (and his 7.82 ERA) the other day. Yeah, that'll help.

Couple really nice closers out there (Robertson and Herrera) that would this team tremendously.

Dusty makes things so difficult. It's Romero & Albers.... your two best guys. If you need a k late Romero, contact Albers. jfc with this guy.

LHP Solis starts the 9th tonight, gets 2 outs with a runner on 1st. Lefty Granderson pinch hits.

Dusty in his infinite wisdom pulls Solis and brings in Albers. (a righty)

Dusty needed a "laugher" in the worst way. Prevented his pen from creating yet another loss, with victory on the table.

Totally moronic move by Dusty to intentionally walk Heyward.
Heyward scored. Nationals lost by 1.
    This loss is on Dusty.
Having sympathy for Dusty's post-season record is like having sympathy for the Menendez brothers, because, after all, they are orphans now..,

How about in the 8th when the Cubs were already up 8-6 and they had men on 1st and 3rd and 1 out for kris Bryant (who is a very hard guy to turn a double play on). Hard grounder hit to 3rd baseman. Rather than go home and cut off the run, he tries to turn 2. Its executed perfectly and its still not even close at 1st.

If you're a manager, you HAVE to tell your players to cut off that run at home, unless its a taylor made double play.
