Danny Garcia Fights Samuel Vargas - WBC World welterweight champion Danny Garcia (32-0) enters the ring this Saturday night to face Colombia's samuel Vargas (25-2-1).

The fight is an interesting trend recently in boxing, and it has a world champion taking a risk against a lesser opponent in order to tune-up before a major fight. Vargas is scheduled to meet WBA world champion Keith Thurman on March 4th in a title unification bout between undefeated fighters. The catch here is that if Vargas is able to break through and score a victory against Garcia, the planned match would probably fall off the table.

At 28 years old, Garcia is one of the top technical boxers out there today. We last saw him fighting Robert Guerrero in January of 2016, so the Vargas fight makes sense in order for Garcia to avoid fighting just once in 2016. That will not be the case for Thurman, who will sit for close to a year since his last fight. In that match back in June of 2016 he defeated Shawn Porter in a terrific performance.

As for Vargas, the Colombian fighter is based out of Toronto and has fought most of his career in Canada. He has won five fights in a row since taking a fourth round KO loss to another undefeated top gun at 147 pounds, Errol Spence Jr.

Though Garcia is logging ring time here and is unlikely to lose, Vargas will be coming to win. The other risks here in terms of the backers of this type of tune up fight are injury and a bad performance. What if Garcia struggles with Vargas by comparison to Spence, who handily dispatched him?

One thing is for sure, the more of these types of fights we see, the more chances that some off them will go away from the planned script. You will want to be there when that happens.
