MLB 2017 Preview Tampa Bay Rays - The Rays are a team that is going to have to make a decision over this current roster. They shipped veteran second baseman Logan Forsythe to the Dodgers for pitcher Jose De Leon and they do not really have a proven second baseman to play there. Former SS/1st baseman Brad Miller may get the nod at second.

Despite the confusion in the infield, the team retains the likes of Evan Longoria and Kevin Kermaier and a relatively solid pool of starting pitching that includes*Chris Archer and Jake Odorizzi as well as*southpaw prospect Blake Snell. The bullpen was one of the weak spots last year as Archer and Ordorizzi kept decent ERAs but the middle relievers lost the team a lot of games last year. Closer Alex Colome tossed 37 saves last year and has the closer position but the set up men are still questionable.

The Rays went 68-94 last season and though there is potential for slight improvement, this is unlikely to be a team that sees the post season. If this team is crawling towards a win total like last year, or even say a slight improvement to 75 wins in 2017, the management is going to have to resist the urge to ship out some of the serviceable veterans mentioned above. Players like starters Archer and Odorizzi and slugger Longoria could be appealing options for teams that get off to a good start and are looking to make a post-season run. The Rays likely took a lot of calls for some of these pieces last year and barring a surprising start by the club you can expect their phone to be ringing come late June.
