Canelo vs JCC Jr Mexican Civil War May 6 - The "Cinco de Mayo" weekend is now the property of Saul "Canelo" Alvarez as the Mexican star has positioned himself as one of boxing's biggest draws and he is able to command what is perhaps modern boxing's premier date.

This year Alvarez is looking no further than his native Mexico for an opponent as he is set to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in the main event at Las Vegas' glitzy T-Mobile Arena.

The fight has been talked about for many years however several weight classes separated the two men and it looked for a while like the fight would never happen. The fight is set at a catchweight of 164.5 pounds as Chavez Jr comes down in weight and "Canelo" fights at the heaviest he has ever fought.

Chavez Jr brings the name recognition as his legendary father is remembered as one of the greatest Mexican fighters of all-time but he has failed to catch on despite a fine 50-2-1 record. A win for him would put his career back on track after it had been derailed for several years.

Alvarez at this point is a corporation and he has to keep on winning. His search for opponents may be criticized at times but he is looking to maximize his money every time out. Here he is giving his hometown Mexican market what they want. It is a fight Alvarez has no intention of losing even if only Mexican bragging rights are at stake.
