    Way under the Mendoza line.....

Have to give him a bit of a pass....the weather has been brutal...but he really should not be leading off....

I'm sure Schwarber will turn things around he is a very talented hitter but I don't think he should be batting lead off either...the Cubs really miss Fowler at the top of the lineup.

Schwarber isn't a tall black glider, so no excuse for him. If he played for the Mets, Javy would be burying him right now

Schwarber should have been traded for a pitcher when he had some value....

I do think the hype got a little out of hand, due to the World Series last year. He still doesn't have 400 regular season at bats. He is going to have to learn to use the whole field, and learn to hit lefties, as well as cut down the K's. A shortening of the swing could increase the hits and cut the strikeouts. But he does walk a pretty good amount and he should still hit 20-25 HRs. Maybe they sit him against some lefties and go with Zobrist/Almora/Heyward in the OF.

Schwarber batting leadoff is indeed comical

best is hard to say.....he is in top group for sure.........but he had $$$ in boston and the players were not the right group in the end...then he dashed out ....went to another big city...took some time... but for sure he turned it around well but a cleveland team was shorthanded then cubs came from behind in the last inning.

Note: the redsox offered billy beane 3 million before the sox took theo......Beane said not interested.......then. ...Beane took a small % of the A's.

the kid was rushed a bit

    barely any AAA ab's

hell barely any minor league ab's period.. like 600 plate appearances total on the farm and half of them in A ball

300 plate appearances at the MLB level.

then like an entire season of development shut down due to the injury

the league will adjust and he will adjust back. but a prolonged slump or two is to be expected.

That was the part of the movie Moneyball they was somewhat dishonest. Beane actually did accept the Red Sox offer and then pulled the same thing Billichick did with the Jets and backed out. According to reports Ive read the Red Sox three man ownership group basically forced Theos hand with the high dollar signings and that played the biggest part in him wanting to leave Boston. I agree that Chicago was very fortunate by facing a banged up Tribe.

Schwarber has indeed had some terrible ABs so far. His K rate is 30% and he's been swinging at 1/3 pitches out of the strike zone. I've personally seen him swing at close to a dozen pitches that bounced. But it's early.

Kevin Maas was the fastest MLB player in history to hit 15 HR's. He was out of baseball entirely before you could blink an eye.

I think there was a number of things in Moneyball that played loose with the facts. Billy Beane, the A's, and baseball in general did not introduce the sports world to analytics. Horse racing did.

Get him out of the lead off role....especially against left handers

Agree he should definitely not be leading off vs lefties. Almora and Jay are better options vs LHP.

One of the better plays you'll see going into the stands last night. Guy is fearless, a lot of outfielders don't make that play.

That was a great play, the announcers were comparing it to the Jeter play, Jeter's play was better, but it was a great effort and a great play from a guy not known for his defense

It was a great play but it might be smarter not to go diving into the stands. Especially not for a guy coming off recent ACL surgery.

You're right, but the competitive nature of an athlete takes over in that spot. I don't think Schwarber was thinking about anything other than making a play on the ball. I'll give you a quick example, last season the Heat were playing someone and there was only maybe 10 seconds left in the game and Miami was up comfortably, anyway there's a loose ball near Miami's bench and one of the Heat players dove out of bounds and took a tumble trying to save it, after he got up Goran Dragic looked at him, pointed up to the scoreboard and shrugged his shoulders, as if to say the game is over and there's no reason to potentially injure yourself in that spot, but human nature told him to try and save the ball, same thing last night, Schwarber being a competitor combined with human nature led him to attempt that catch. Sorry for being long winded.

Good story about Dragic and one of his teammates.

Gamblers understand risk/reward and athletes would be wise to take a course on the subject.

Batting average up to a whopping .179 after that "nice night" and OPS up to a robust .656. Guy's really turning it on as of late. Pretty soon he'll be bringing up that career .219 average.

It must really suck to be a white sox fan. You look forward to maybe contending in 2025 even though you're in the worst division in baseball maybe tied for the NL east and you pray the team isn't moved to a new city by then due to abysmal fan support. Not only that, you have one of the most popular franchises on the north side constantly one upping everything you do at any phase of existing as a major league club. Must be depressing
    as hell.
