Cubs Face Rockies in Tuesday Double Header - The Cubs are in Colorado to face the Rockies for a twin bill on May 9th. The Cubs are coming off a series that saw them get swept by the hot New York Yankees and that leaves the world champions*flirting with .500 ball at 16-15 overall. Meanwhile, Colorado sits at 20-12 with a two game lead in the National League West. Monday's game was postponed and will be played as the early game here.

The afternoon opener sees a duel of 4-1 pitchers as the Cubs send Jake Arrieta to the mound while the Rockies answer with Antonio Senzatela. Arrieta has been good but not great and his ERA is roughly two points higher than Rockies starter Senzatela. The 22 year old Senzatela is making just his seventh career start and he has obviously never seen the Cubs before. Arrieta has 41 strike outs in 35 innings but he has had problems keeping the ball down and that could be fatal in high altitude Coors field.

Game two is expected to start at 7:40 central time and it sees the Cubs send John Lackey (2-3) in as the starter as he faces Kyle Freeland. The Cubs are hoping the altitude is a cure for their batters. Despite being close to .500 the Cubs are just 1 game behind the first place St Louis Cardinals in a crowded field atop the NL Central that also includes the 17-15 Cincinnati Reds.

Cubs Face Rockies in Tuesday Double Header
The bottom line is that 30 games into the season the Cubs are not looking like defending world champions and in this case they badly need a sweep to right the ship. A split will leave the Cubbies at .500 and should they drop two on Tuesday, they would in fact be under .500 with one fifth of the season in the books and that is not good. The Cubs and Rockies close out the three game series on Wednesday.
