Remember the drunk guy who ran onto the track on Preakness day? It was probably 15-20 years ago. It was one of the undercard stakes. He tried to throw a punch at the 3-5 favorite and missed.......and was promptly escorted to the local jail.

I remember when a mentally-challenged "fan" ran onto the racetrack at Del Mar during the stretch run of a race many years ago.

I met the knucklehead a few days earlier at the old Barbary Coast.

I distinctly remember his duffel bag, the same duffel bag he carried on the track.

The inquiry sign was posted but in the end the race was made official.

Why did he visit the Barbary Coast a few days before his Del Mar escapade?

The Barbary Coast ran an ad in Daily Racing Form announcing a free $1,000 handicapping contest.

He came to Las Vegas to win $1,000.

Little did he know, more than 400 other horseplayers had designs on winning the contest too.

That's why he carries a back pack hitch hiking to LV. Not the smartest in the pack.
