    That's not really the criteria.

The average NL central team is better than the average NL east team. Which is how you compare divisions obviously. You don't transport the best team from division A into division B and then say that there is a better team challenger bc you didn't trade 1 for 1

Does Verlander get dealt? And if so, to who? If he does go my guess would be Dodgers since he lives there off season and LAD has a loaded farm system.

I don't think a team will have to give up much more than a middling prospect or two. That is a brutal salary. The Tigers should be shopping the oft-injured Miggy Cabrera.

The Dodgers paid Brett Anderson like 15 million a year didn't they? they spend like morons.

Under Colletti they did spend foolishly. Freidman is much smarter with his decisions.

    What's a middling prospect or 2?

if there's any type of bidding war close to the deadline I would think he will still bring in a haul. Crazy salary or not. They are not going to give him away for nothing.

That's where the Tigers erred last week in my opinion. I don't know why they dealt Martinez early instead of waiting for better offers. The prospects they got back from AZ are not highly regarded at all. I think they can get some real studs for Verlander. Teams possibly interested (LAD, CHC, NYY) can easily afford him and have the pieces to pull it off. I'm not going to argue the contract is pretty ridiculous but isn't there only 3 years left on it?

I want nothing to do with Verlander. Save the money, and if Tigers are paying a lot, then they would expect good prospects, of which the Cubs don't have many left. And what does Verlander really give the Cubs? I would say he's probably a 3 right now, and the Cubs already have 2 3's (Arrieta and Hendricks) so then they have 2 2's and 3 3's... doesn't change much.

Eduardo Nunez was just traded during the Giants/Pirates game.

He was removed from the game and got his farewell hugs.

Nationals get Howie Kendrick from the Phillies.

Because, you know, they clearly need more bats...

Nice bat to have on the bench, I'm sure it didn't cost the Nats much

Smart-no need to send him out there to risk injury. I bet the Yanks pull the trigger. I've loved the job Luhnow has done but don't understand why he's not going after him. Astros farm system is loaded to make it happen.

Yanks sure need a starter like Gray.

Caleb Smith ain't gonna cut it.

Maybe they broke down and let Gaybar Torres go?

I read that Beane wants Clint Frazier but Yanks are balking at that. Now the Yanks are trying to get the deal done with 19 year old outfielder Estevan Florial as the centerpiece.

Bombers do not need him to win the division. World Series? That is a totally different question. Right now? The Rock-Sox are done. They are finished. Price fucked their entire season up.

They need someone, Houston is going to be tough, then the Dodgers, if they even wIn the ALDS.

They have tons of prospects that cannot all be protected from Rule V.

Bosox aren't done. They have this years Cy winner and even though Porcello hasn't pitched great this year he's still the reigning Cy winner. If they make playoffs they still have a rotation set up for it regardless of Price.

If Yanks do not add a starter, I would make Bosox favorite to win division.

Yanks bullpen is now well used today, no off day for a long time, a few short starts and that strength will be spent !

If they are a wildcard and win, they most likely lose the ALDS.

    Very good pickups here.

The lefty catcher Alex Avila gets on base will help lineup with high walk rate. The relief guy wilson very high k rate and a bit high on walk rate. Wade wilson should stay at closer keeps ball in park better than most. Two good additions for cubs. Should win central 6-8 games min. Cubs all of a sudden look much better in a last 2 weeks with trades. A return to WS could depend on Kershaw. Dodgers still favored over cubs no question. Dodger lineup with more hitters that know the strike zone better which would be the key putting pressure on cub starters.

It's nice to have a great scouting department and developmental system so you can trade prospects for proven commodities.
