    Default My Monday blog

The scene was eerie this past Friday morning at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino where curtains from Vista Suite #32135 were billowing out two broken windows from more than 300 feet above the ground.

It took five days for Mandalay Bay to receive clearance from federal authorities to replace the windows amid a thorough investigation into the October 1 shooting massacre which ranks as the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Stephen Paddock, 64, launched a barrage of bullets at an estimated 22,000 concertgoers attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival.

The concert venue was located kitty-corner from the MGM Resorts property.

The deranged gunman killed 58 people and injured nearly 500 others before turning the gun on himself.

The Friday morning mood inside Mandalay Bay was both sad and solemn.

Yet the constant battle cry from tourists and locals alike seemed to be one of hope and resilience.

"Las Vegas visitors are accustomed to calculating risk," said David Quinn, a frequent visitor from southern California.

"For me, I will not change my vacation plans because one sick individual hatched a diabolical plan. I label this situation as a one-off event."

MGM Resorts is hoping Quinn's assessment is accurate and accepted by the masses.

The motives for the unconscionable act remain a mystery.

Casino magnate Steve Wynn recently told "Fox News Sunday" that Paddock was "not a problem gambler and never owed any money anywhere in Las Vegas."

And while first responders from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Las Vegas Fire Department receive high praise for their heroic actions in the aftermath of the shootings, why isn't there more scrutiny surrounding the security detail at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino?

Did Stephen Paddock act alone or did he receive help from his girlfriend, Marilou Danley?

Did any Mandalay Bay employees either knowingly or unknowingly aid or abet his dastardly plan?

Did Paddock's high-roller status allow him carte blanche to bypass any security checks or suspicions?

Did Paddock's previous dispute with the casino company, a failed slip-and-fall lawsuit, raise any red flags in terms of retribution?

Right now, there are more questions than answers but the answers are critical to stop more sick individuals from focusing on a high-profile, internationally-known city like Las Vegas, a place long considered a soft target for terrorists to kill innocent people and gain worldwide notoriety.

A GENEROUS OFFER FROM '1'...Credit EOG contributor RAININTHREES for sparking the newest idea from '1', the controlling interest in the ownership group at Eye On Gaming.

RAININTHREES suggested some sort of incentive for EOG members who post worthwhile content on a daily basis.

"Here's what I plan to do," said the man nicknamed "The Loneliest Number."

"For the 22 members who competed each and every week of our NFL contest over the first four weeks of the season, I will give each one of them a free shot at $500 during the final week of the 2017 NFL regular season."

"Same rules apply to Week 17 as apply to our weekly head-to-head showdowns so if someone goes a perfect 5-0, they'll win $1,000, compliments of EOG and BetDSI, regardless of my record."

The EOG contributors who recorded perfect attendance over the first four weeks of the NFL season are (in alphabetical order) BigBlind, Big Daddy, brians, ChiTownJoe, ComptrBob, DrunkenGoon, Foresthill, ManchesterUK, njdave, Patrick McIrish, railbird, raininthrees, scrimmage, Sportsrmylife, svbettor, TEXED, TheGuesser, unluckysob, Vegas Vic, Waco, WeinketoWarrick, Woodrow Wilson and Zzyzx Road.

Imagine if '1' bagels his five contest selections in Week 17, he'll be responsible for a five-figure payout to members of our EOG community.

...Play 475-476 Minnesota Vikings-Chicago Bears OVER 40 (CG Technology).

So much for 2017 being Mike Glennon's year.

Ball protection was a problem for Glennon, who threw five interceptions and lost three fumbles in only four games for the Bears before losing his job to hotshot Mitch Trubisky.

Glennon will collect $19 million in guaranteed money this season and look for a new team next season.

Trubisky impressed most observers in the preseason, albeit against second and third-string defenses.

Unlike Glennon, Trubisky is agile enough to gain yards with his feet or buy time to spot open receivers.

Minnesota welcomes the return of quarterback Sam Bradford, who replaces the weak-armed Case Keenum (10-17 as an NFL starter).

The weather will cooperate Monday night on the shores of Lake Michigan as the low temperature is expected to be in the mid-60's.

    Correct.

That's standard operating procedure at Wynn and Encore.

Besides, you don't want gamblers sleeping, you want them gambling.

Very hard for me to imagine Number One paying out five figures...but the thought is there.....why doesnt he spend a part of that and make some improvements to EOG? Like bringing back the radio show that was so successful...and spending a few bucks for a moderator....

Sad times for Las Vegas...the shooting was tragic and horrific....as a former resident, I commend the police department for their efforts and give thanks for all the people who helped the wounded and helped others survive...God Bless those families who lost relatives...

Keep up the good work JK and I hope Vegas never forgets the horrific events that took place....
    Everyone dies......but not everyone lives.....

I share your sentiments on the LVMPD, Viejo.

The front page of Saturday's Los Angeles Times displayed pictures of all 58 victims, 36 women and 22 men.

Wynn talks a big game but I'd like to see security/house keeping barge into a high rollers room after leaving a 'do not disturb' sign over 12 hours on their door knob.

MGM International stock dropped 5% after the shooting but foot traffic was healthy this past weekend.

I see Las Vegas bouncing back in short order.

Three days after the shooting, every floor at Mandalay Bay except the 32nd floor was open to the public.

I know when a casino customer dies on property, the management never likes for the paramedics to pronounce him/her dead until they leave the building.

Too many headaches concerning the operation of the business if the customer is declared dead inside the property.

Paddock’s slip-and-fall suit was against the Cosmopolitan, which is not an MGM Resorts property.

The Chinese never go to Mandalay Bay. Those rich Chinese people all flock to MGM Grand and the Venetian. Venetian appears to now be 99.99% Chinese people, not Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese, etc but all Chinese.

I was playing Blackjack Switch at the Venetian and the guy sitting next to me couldn't speak a word of English but he knew how to play the game... lol.

I caught that Fox interview as well. Certainly a Oops moment for Wynn. When Chris Wallace started to jump on that comment Steve couldn’t back track fast enough but it was clear he knew more than has been made public. 7:00 mark for the slip.
