    Default MLB 5/17

Ten-game slate in Major League Baseball.

The game at Fenway Park is a write-in game as the O's and Red Sox were rained out on Patriots Day in mid-April.

    Gausman v Price.

The Red Sox scored 20 runs in a three-game sweep over the Orioles last month.

Baltimore had only four hits yesterday in a 4-1 loss to the Phillies.

The O's have recorded four hits or fewer nine times this season.

    No wonder they're 13-29.

Admittedly I've been out of sync with the Orioles (and I bet the O's RSW over) but they are playing better lately and Gausman has an ERA of 2.3 his last 7 games and Price has not been Mr. consistency at Fenway.

Caleb Smith just walked 3 guys who couldn't hit their way out of a wet paper bag back to back to back... Guess that explains it.

How long can Goldschmidt continue to struggle? K rate up to 30%, exit velo down to 89 MPH, while he's usually between 91-92. The humidor obviously would play some role in that, but nobody saw a falloff this big.

Goldys confidence is in the gutter at the moment. His swings are weak and feeble. He told Lovullo the other day if reporters ask about him to just tell them that he sucks. Slumps happen to the best of em and once he has a good game he will go on a tear.

Not a giant sample size at this point but he has really struggled at night, which correlates strongly with his home/road splits. Below are his night numbers:

    .118 BA/ .184 OBP/ .159 SP/ .343 OPS

Contrast with his day games split:

    .296 BA/ .433 OBP/ .611 SP/ 1.044 OPS

FWIW I can recollect (not the year) David Ortiz getting in an extended MASSIVE slump and Francona was criticized for merely penciling him in the line-up - At some point he snapped out of it and eventually became David Ortiz again.

Rizzo has to adjust to the defensive shifts teams are employing for starters.
