Default My favorite hotel lobby in Las Vegas

I've always loved the spacious front entrance of the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.

The massive MGM Grand features a large bronze statue of "Leo the Lion" to greet its visitors.

This month, "Leo" is wearing an NBA Summer League jersey.

I was in the lobby of the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas this past Saturday watching the final moments of the World Cup soccer match between Russia and Croatia.

The Croatians were in town to root for Stipe Miocic, the son of Croatian immigrants, and the MGM accommodated the huge crowd by showing the soccer match on the big-screen televisions behind the front desk.

The crowd loved the results of the afternoon soccer match a lot more than they liked the shocking outcome in the main event of UFC 226.

Underdog Daniel Cormier (+185) knocked out Miocic in the first round.

My favorite hotel lobby is not located within my favorite hotel (Wynn Las Vegas).

    There's a difference.

I usually visit the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard to check out the action at MGM, Trop and Hooter's.

Three different sports books (MGM, William Hill and CGT) with varied offerings.

William Hill offers in-play wagering not available at MGM or CGT.

MGM has the only racebook among the three properties.

And CGT is a small operation with three employees and three bad attitudes.

Have you ever sold a ticket to an authority?

Ever been pinched for ticket scalping?

Im a very good profiler so not often, i wont sell to mixed race couples or lesbians because they are likely police. For example i wont sell to a hispanic at an ncaa event, i wont sell to an asian with the exception of koreans at golf because asians dont buy tickets, i wont sell to black women because they are likely police. When i have been busted it has been because a 3rd party has brought undercovers with them, not everybody has my profiling skills.

I like when the MGM Grand sets up a boxing ring in the main lobby.

Expect to see the ring on display in the month of September in advance of the Triple G-Canelo showdown.

Of course, the elevators are in the same spot and so too is the main cage (position of a safe?).

elevator shafts on renovations usually don't move. They only add.

I use to stay at the barbary coast cause it was easier to eat at michaels. ( now at S.point ) & the phones were easy to get to when calling my grandmother back east.

The Mirage lobby with the Aquarium at the check-in desks always stood out to me. Was like walking into a different world just walking into that building for me.

if you like to people watch the mgm lobby is fantastic after a big fight that the hotel hosts. Late 90's when i was living in Vegas i would go down to the mgm for the entertainment after a big fight. Celebrities too many to mention and many great fighters all walking around. The lobby would be shoulder to shoulder full of people.
The brothers all dressed up in their purple and lime green suits. Fantastic entertainment and no cover charge. One memory i still have is a young brother in his outlandish outfit and hat, drinking from a champagne bottle in one hand and eating french fries out of a MacDonalds bag with the other. You gots to love vegas.

My favorite is the El Cortez. Don't need a fancy, smancy lobby. I just want to get in, check the lines, perhaps make a wager, and get out. Went to Caesar's about 30 years and said never again.
