lol i will give you all you need to know my friend. pick any prospects in the game and we can talk on each....from erbe in low A to your boy lester entering the bigs... Lester, coming into this season was considered the Superior talent and prosp[ect to johnbo papelbon. that alone, should tell you a bit about hit ability. boston would not include him in the beckett deal which should also give you and idea of how highly thought of he is. lester is a hard throwing lefty that can use his Fb in all counts, but as must youngsters, he struggles with his control at times. Though i dont believe lester is trully ready for the majors, he has the stuff to hold a spot in the rotation. people thought he would be posting more than a K per inning in AAA and he certainly has the ability to, he just hasnt found the one pitch to go to for the K. lester last pitched for pawtucket on monday and allowed 5 walks in 4 innings while also allwoing 4 hits. as bad as that sounds and really is, he was still able to get thru those 4 innings without allowing a run. he was likely pressing a bit, knowing he was due to get this call to the bigs. I expect him to walk a few but, typically, mlb players know that a rookie has been told to get ahead of guys and work off their fastball....knowing that, the hitters will look to jump on his stuff early. with a guy like john maine or someone not as talneted, that can usually lead to some early runs and lessening the confidence of the rook, but with lesters stuff and being a lefty i dont think texas will put as many solid swings on him early as many may think. the kid is FAR from short on confidence and felt like he should have been on the team from day one, tho he just turned 22 this year. he has a very good Fb and a good breaking ball...but hasnt mastered a 3rd pitch which is too be expected. he started this season VERY slowling in AAA but has been pitching very well in his last 7 starts. all that being said, he has started 11 games at lawtucket and oly pitched a total of 46 innings which doesnt translate into him getting out of the 5th tomorrow. look for him to give up a couple by the end of the 4th and the pen to be invovled no later than the 6th |
