funny thing about pujols and hamilton is how bad they went fast

seems like once these guys are set to be very very very rich around 30-33 yrs old many of them dont much care anymore about the game

They will regret this contract. The question is when they start regretting it. In 3 years or in 5 years?

What long term big money deal given to a player over 30 has ever worked out?

This guy hasn't even reached his peak.......

He is a young 30 and will be one of the best hitters for at least the next 5 years and maybe a lot longer as he could play the DH after 5 years.

Who in the world else are they going to sign that is as good as him? There is no one and he deserves every penny.

The owner obviously loves him and thinks he is worth it..... And so do I ... There's nobody close to his worth in baseball........

          Good for him...........

This deal does seems a bit odd, but with all these long-term, big-money copntracts being thrown around lately, the baseball execs must see something on the horizon (new collective bargaining agreement?) that makes them think salaries will soon explode even higher than they are in the present-tense.

Regarding Cabrera, he's in his prime at the current moment (the last 2 years, anyway), and if his health holds up then he'll be among the top hitters in baseball for probably several more years. He has plenty of room for regression before he eventually drops out of the upper-echelon.

I wouldn't sign him to this kind of deal (especially when he's still under contract for the next couple of years), but it's probably a good bit safer than the Pujols and Josh Hamilton deals of recent years.

He turns 31 next month. Players don't get better at that age.

                He's past his peak.

How is a guy whose been up since 20, and a guy who is overweight as well as once having a drinking problem, a young 30?

Trout is worth more money than Cabrera as well. So saying no one is close is crazy.

Baseball has great local market ratings. Everyone is signing 1-3 billion dollar tv contracts. That's where all this money is coming from.

The dude is getting better .............

Why do you people constantly ignore reality?

Nobody is close to this guy..... Even Pujols wasn't this good EVER!

This guy is not slowing down ......

The guy has earned this contract whether you guys like it or not.....

The money is there ... He's the One I would give it too ......

I also said the Pujols and Hamilton contracts were foolish and for good reason..........

                        This one is not!

Mike Trout is obviously close to him in terms of value, and many would argue he's more valuable. Trout also much younger, and has many more peak years left.

Trout more deserving of a contract this large and you are saying no one is close to as deserving. Puzzling stuff.

This contract is very foolish. It's even worse than the others because they had him under contract for two more years anyway.

salaries cant go higher or fans wont be able to attend games. The Yanks had a lot of empty seats last year for every game. Regular people get poorer every year, you can't spend several hundred dollars to take your family to the ballgame unless you make big money these days.
