He thrived at VCU with role players....not too many want to be role players at bigger schools. He has a 5-star pg coming in next year....let's see how he does.

Didn't have much this year coming in. Gets a pg from Houston area should be okay.

I realized a while back that coaches like Shaka, Larranaga, Altman et al don't convert real well when they upgrade or move up in the claiming ranks if you will. You can get guys to buy into your system if they're lightly recruited however you're not going to get guys like Mo Bamba to full court press all game or have a 5-star recruit pass to the eighth man open underneath. Great coaching loses something during a full season as opposed to a magical run in The Big Dance.

also harder to trap with the new touch foul rules, they do promote variety, trying to clone nba borefest

ETSU Steve Forbes is a hot commodity right now. But he won't do shit at a bigger program like Pitt. They're better off hiring a assistant from a Big 5 school. It's not the coaching but the contacts. Enfield didn't get good at SC fast due to his innovative coaching from FGCU.

I appreciated the horse racing analogy.

Shaka Smart is signed at Texas through the 2022-23 season.

Nobody will forget VCU's magical run to the Final Four in 2011 before the Rams lost to Butler, 70-62.

Birdie makes a good point about the referee's impact on Smart's style of play ("Havoc").
