  • Interesting Owner/Trainer Break Up

I missed this but has some great ramifications, potentially:

    http://www.drf.com/news/gargan-midwe...reds-splitting

Midwest hadn’t had any success in NY until hooking up with Gargan. After two years of success, the prices on their horses were pretty much shot. Now Midwest will be unbettable, while there should be some odds relief on the Gargan starters. He’s a sharp dude.

    Thanks for your insight, RD.

I like the term "odds relief."

      Re: Interesting Owner/Trainer Break Up

Looks like Gargan is 1 for 4 in NY since the big break up, and that winner was odds on in a four horse field. So I’m gonna jump in now:

      Race 1
      $40 Win #5 Exchanging Secrets 3-1
      $2 Ex 5/ALL
Morning line is low, so it should be a good indicator of any forthcoming odds relief for Gargan. He’s done incredibly well the last two years or so with horses that are new to his barn, especially through private sales and owner decision, like today’s entrant. Anxious to see if the bettors forget all that without the Midwest name attached. Either way, Gargan is a huge upgrade from Gaudet. And like that Carmouche is named. He was the go to for Midwest/Gargan early on, but then something happened and he wasn’t getting the mounts from them. Coincidentally, that’s when their production dropped off....
Good luck to anyone playing today.....

Midwest will continue to pile up the wins. Gargan is the one who should be concerned.

We haven't heard much from Jamie Ness recently. Maybe he's been at Delaware, which I don't follow. But when Ness had his breakout, it was largely with Midwest Thoroughbreds horses. Eventually, they dispersed most to other trainers.

Last I heard, Ness’ wife was running the operation. At Presque Isle, maybe?

                Thursday 11/30/17
                One for Gargan today

                Race 8
                $40 Win #1 Divine Miss Grey/1a Lamontagne 7/2
                $2 Ex 1/ALL

Hopefully the betting doesn’t get crazy like yesterday. From the looks of things, without scratches, the money should go elsewhere in here.

I'm curious to see how Gargan does. Frank Calabrese has been well noted for how often he fires trainers. Guys win at a ridiculous % when training for him, then they lose him as a client and the magic is gone (Wayne Catalano being the exception).

                          Re: Interesting Owner/Trainer Break Up

A friend of mine is moving his small string from Gullo to Gargan. When my friend got into owning two years ago he liked Gargan but felt Gargan was too busy with Midwest to give his attention to the smaller owners, so he went with Gullo. Now Gullo’s barn is getting bigger so my buddy felt it was a good time to make the move.

                            Sunday 12/3/17
Playing a three bagger from Gargan today:

                            Race 6
                            $40 Win #4 Attribute 15-1
                            $2 exbx 4-7
                            $2 Ex 4/ALL

He has two in here, but siding with the recent private purchase, as he has a knack for striking first out with those. Better price, and I prefer when Gargan goes to Carmouche.

                            Race 8
                            $40 Win #5 Glory to Kitten 5-1
                            $2 Ex 5/ALL

                            RACE 9
                            $40 Win #2 Fuel the Bern 5-1
                            $2 Ex 2/ALL
Another recent addition, via the claim. Was way to aggressive placing it in Stakes company first out. This seems like a more appropriate spot.

                            0-2, -$100

Gargan has another chalkster in race 8 today. Passing on this one too. My theory hasn’t panned out to this point, as his horses have looked terrible AND they’re all getting bet. I’ll be back when the odds rise on this guy.

                                      Wednesday 12/13/17
Gargan had two chalky winners last week, so he’s got half the equation so far. Just need the prices to turn around.

                                      Race 7
                                      $20 Win #4 Cinderella el Chrome 5-1
                                      $2 DD 4/ALL
This should turn out to be a great claim by Gargan. His success with Midwest was fueled by newcomers to his barn, specifically the ones that had early speed. Back when Morrison brought this one over from California, she was a real speedster. For some reason, they got away from that the last few starts. She did win one from slightly off the pace two back, but the front runners really collapsed, and it seems from past starts that she gets a little discouraged behind other horses. I expect Gargan to get her back to her front running ways, and won’t be surprised to see her in some small Sprint Stakes here soon enough.

                                                            canceled yet again

                                                            it's a nice day, so I don't understand it.

43 degrees and cloudy. No rain/snow/sleet/hail.

                                                              I just checked NYRA.

Canceled due to "rapidly warming conditions", which is utter nonsense.

Tuesday and Wednesday were in the 40s as well, with no precipitation.

Third straight day of warm weather* and they call it "rapidly warming"?

*Relatively, of course. For New York in January, the past three days have been very nice.

I believe that's a new development and one to watch for when shipping in to the NY Circuit. I already bet the Aro horse here to win, so just added the Klesaris entrant in an ex box, 1-8.
