THE IRAQ STUDY GROUP WAS A OF TAXPAYER MONEY AND THE NATION'S TIME FOR SEVERAL REASONS:

THE ISG TOOK EIGHT MONTHS TO COME TO THE SAME CONCLUSIONS ANY JUNIOR POLICY ANALYST COULD HAVE DEVISED IN JUST A FEW WEEKS.

THERE WERE NO ACTIVE MILITARY MEMBERS OF THE ISG, JUST POLITICIANS.

FEW ISG MEMBERS HAD ANY DEPTH OF KNOWLEDGE OF GEOPOLITICAL ISSUES OR MIDDLE EAST HISTORY.

ON THEIR TRIP TO IRAQ, ONLY ONE ISG MEMBER LEFT THE HIGHLY PROTECTED GREEN ZONE TO OBSERVE CONDITIONS FIRST-HAND.

THE ISG ASKED THE WRONG FUNDAMENTAL QUESTION. THEY ASKED, "HOW CAN WE LEAVE?" INSTEAD OF "HOW CAN WE WIN?"

THERE WAS NO MENTION OF VICTORY IN THE REPORT, WHICH ONLY SERVES TO EMBOLDEN OUR NATION'S ENEMIES.

THE ISG IS A COLOSSAL DISAPPOINTMENT. THE UNITED STATES IS ENGAGED IN A HIGH-STAKES INTERNATIONAL CHESS GAME. OUR OPPENENTS ARE GRANDMASTERS. SADLY, OUR MEDIA AND POLITICIANS, LIKE THE ISG, ARE PLAYING LIKE A-LEVEL BEGINNERS.

I agree. This is nothing more than Dems & Repubs trying to look like they are the ones doing their best to fix what Bush screwed up. They are already gearing up for the 08' elections. Bush will follow what they say because he needs to look like he has seen the error of his ways and give the Repubs a better shot at the WH again. We will never ever win a military conflict as long as the Politicians are calling the shots over the military in a military conflict. You don't see generals passing tax bills do you?

Yes, but at least someone began to tell the truth. None of these politicians seem to care about the troops, it seems they care about their careers and their booty(s). The troops will be brought home when the public turns on these asshole politicians who only pay attention to their numbers.

Baker's Two Big Ideas are:



1. Stay half the course. Keeping 140,000 troops in Iraq is a disaster getting more disastrous.



The Baker Boys' idea: cut the disaster in half - leave 70,000 troops there.
But here's where dumb gets dumber: the Bakerites want to "embed" US forces in Iraqi Army units.



Question one, Mr. Baker: What Iraqi Army? This so-called "army" is a rough confederation of Shia death squads. We can tell our troops to get "embedded" with them, but they won't get much sleep.
2. "Engage" Iran. This is a good one.

How can we get engaged when Bush hasn't even asked them out for a date? What will induce the shy mullahs of Iran to accept our engagement proposal?
