Re: Notice How many of Docs Threads have Zero Responses and few views when he can't
"Whatever else he feels like."
Voltaire once told a fellow writer with whom he vehemently disagreed with that "I may hold with utter disdain what you say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it." Most of our Founding Fathers were readers of Voltaire and found inspiration from the ideals he espoused; the influence of Voltaire can be located in our Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights.
In America, one can say almost anything he desires, short of yelling "fire" in a crowded theater; this is so especially in the political arena. Our Founding Fathers believed that only by the free exchange of ideas could American ferret out the best course for our country. This "free marketplace of ideas" would of course have in it ideas that were unwise, unpopular, or downright ridiculous. However, all of these ideas are protected, and I would argue valuable, no matter what degree of seriousness other would attribute them. This is because by being free to articulate these ideas, we are exercising what it means to be a free people; exercising what America ostensibly stands for; and exercising the rights that our best and brightest throughout history have made the ultimate sacrifice for.
I may disagree with many of the statements made by doc, but by God, many a good American has given his/her life so that all of us--doc included--can exercise his right to state his opinion.
