Guy told me yesterday for a small player on a reasonally small fixed income that wanted to move to NV to live; he would say Lovelock or (maybe misspelled Winnemucca). Yesterday was his last day in this area (has grown children here and in Calif). Said he would try to find me some broschures on them as well as Fernley when he comes back here in late Sept.

I know this is a long shot, but do both these places have sportsbooks. He said--yes but very small! (I think he said Indian Run--not sure). Any advice helpfull.

WildBill --are you around here today?

Why would you want to move to northern NV? Why would you not move to Vegas?

Wow you are really reaching now. Well they are in Nevada, but you are talking about living in the sticks there, cities with under 10,000 people and FAR from anything. I think Lovelock is about 90 minutes from Reno, its past Fernley which you asked about before. Winnemucca is even farther. That should pretty much describe what you are looking at there. That area has reasonable weather, not so much snow because it is out of the mountains, but it can get cold.

If you are looking out that way look into Elko. It has an airport with good service to Reno and Salt Lake. It is a little bigger city, but further isolated from other cities if that matters. It has some cultural events too which draw in visitors and is close to the mines so it has a good economy for now. Also it is home to the Red Lion Hotel and Casino which for many years was host to charter flights from the Northwest. People would fly in for a day if they showed $300 in cash before boarding. I heard they cancelled those though because people were just playing with the tribes where they lived. I believe it has a sportsbook connected to Cal Neva which is about as good as you'll get in those parts.

All these sorts of cities probably have about the same cost of living due to their isolation. I wouldn't say that is cheap though, even in the sticks houses are surprisingly expensive in Nevada compared to what you would get in say Nebraska.

Don't you think you'd be better off with a Laughlin or Mesquite. Once you're stuck in those northern towns there's too many problems you can run into.

If you play poker you're going to see the same people everyday. If you beat the sportsbook too heavy, they're going to possibly bar you. Then what?

Fernley is one of the few agricultural areas in Nevada. Winnemucca is basically a glorified truck stop on I-80.

Now if you can get into one of the nice 55+ properties in Bullhead City, AZ, across the river from Laughlin, you can get cheaps eats in Laughlin and fairly soft poker. Pleasantly warm in winter but the Devils anvil in summer.

I think in the past he has mentioned he doesn't want to be in the heat of Southern Nevada. Weather is so much different in the North. Not my cup of tea, but so many people up north swear they wouldn't live anywhere else. I don't think he is trying to make a living gambling either, just wants access to the casino amenities.

Elko looks interesting from the Google search. Wish I had known to ask the guy before he left.
