Chris Benoit Dead.....

Re: Chris Benoit Dead.....

I was wondering a lot about this last night. It seemed like within 15-20 minutes after going off the air was when I started seeing updated articles about it being a murder-suicide. Almost seemed like the info was held back until the program was over so that way they would not have to get into it during the broadcast. Also different was how the entire show at the arena was just flat out cancelled - they did not do this in other recent WWE deaths, including Owen Hart's whose tragic death. Last night they probably did not want people showing up with signs for Benoit and lots of gossip/sadness around the arena between fans all night. Hearing the real news then would have made things a hundred times worse - and it would have spread through the arena fast.

It would of been a weird feeling hearing the crowd yell Chris, Chris, Chris Thats what waves a red flag the fact that in the past the WWE has always held a show following a wrestlers death and in this case they canceled it.

Maybe next week on Raw all the wrestlers should come to the ring and they should give the 10 Bell salute to Nancy his wife and the 7 year old son and leave Chris out of it they are the only victims from this it was Benoits choice to keep taking steroids that led to this situation not the wife and kids.

Re: Chris Benoit Dead.....

General think there might be a good chance the Feds might investigate WWE steroid use again Vince went to trial on this about 10 years ago but was found not guilty of distributing them to wrestlers.

But wrestlers like Batista, HHH, Randy Orton and many others are still taking steroids today it does not take a rocket scientist to tell that.

If find it unbeleivable that guys who still and should hate oj are putting out 'guest books" and sympathy for a guy that killed his own son. What kind of piece of shit takes his own problems so seriously, is so godamn selfish, that they need to kill a little boy. There's a real pathological difference among us posters as what this guy did in killing his son is way worse than what oj did. If he was in the joint your wrestling hero would be the lowest of lows for hurting a child.

A lot of monstrous crimes are comitted when people under the influence of drugs. I bet half the guys on death row comitted the crimes that got them there while they were on crank. Guys who came out of homes where you couldn't come out normal and end up very bad news. The route benoit took was different than most of these guys but in the end they all use the drug to excuse horrible behavior which they could have controlled.

2nd best post in this thread. You are right on the mark Frank.

I am sure the TV tapings they are doing tonight for Smackdown and ECW will be pretty tough to get through. They get a break in that they are taped broadcasts and I'm sure they will have to edit out all the "Die in Hell Benoit" signs that people try to make or whatever.

I think any further salutes to Benoit's family are not needed. It's best for the WWE just to ease back into storylines. They have enough of a challenge on their hands in scrapping the Mr. McMahon death angle. And could have bigger problems if there is another steroid crackdown looming.

Now word is leaking WWE might have knew before they aired the tribute to Beniot last night what had happen in that house.

If so there should not have been a tribute last night should have told USA to air alternative programing at least they removed the word tribute off the wwe home page and have removed all of Beniot's merchandise for sale off of their WWE shop zone.

Oh, Im sure Vince knew beforehand without a doubt - the WWE website updated the whole deal to murder/suicide about 5 minutes after the show went off the air.

Steroids discovered in probe of slayings, suicide

<!-- end page tools --><!-- begin story body --> <!-- template inline --> FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. -- Pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife, suffocated his 7-year-old son and placed a Bible next to their bodies before hanging himself with the pulley of a weight machine, authorities said Tuesday.
Investigators found prescription anabolic steroids in the house and want to know whether the muscle man nicknamed "The Canadian Crippler" was unhinged by the bodybuilding drugs, which can cause paranoia, depression and explosive outbursts known as "roid rage."
AP Photo/WWE, HO
Authorities are investigating whether steroids may have been a factor in the deaths of Chris Benoit, above, his wife and child.

Authorities offered no motive for the killings, which were spread out over a weekend, and would not discuss Benoit's state of mind. No suicide note was found.
"I'm baffled about why anybody would kill a 7-year-old," District Attorney Scott Ballard said. "I don't think we'll ever be able wrap our head around that."
In an interview with ESPN.com on Tuesday, Ballard indicated that the boy had needle marks in his arms. The district attorney said he believed that the boy had been given growth hormones for some time because the family considered him undersized.
That was only one of the strange facts that Ballard revealed. He said that two text messages of note caused authorities to investigate the house. In one, Benoit told somebody he knew that his wife and son were sick.
"Of course, they were dead," Ballard told ESPN.com.
In a second message to a neighbor, Benoit said that the door of the house was open and the pets were outside.
"And our assumption is that that was an effort to try and get somebody to come find the bodies after the suicide," Ballard said. "That is our assumption."
The Montreal-born Benoit was one of the stars of the WWE wrestling circuit and was known for his wholesome family man image. His wife, Nancy, was a wrestling stage manager who worked under the name "Woman." They met and fell in love when their wrestling story lines intertwined.
When he won the world heavyweight championship in 2004, Benoit (pronounced ben-WAH) hoisted the belt over his head and invited his wife and child into the ring to celebrate. Asked by the Calgary Sun that same year to name his worst vice: Benoit replied: "Quality time with my family is a big vice. It's something I'll fight for and crave."
Nevertheless, Nancy Benoit filed for a divorce in 2003, saying the couple's three-year marriage was irrevocably broken and alleging "cruel treatment."
She later dropped the complaint, as well as a request for a restraining order in which she charged that the 5-foot-10, 220-pound Benoit had threatened her and had broken furniture in their home.
In the divorce filing, she said Benoit made more than $500,000 a year as a professional wrestler and asked for permanent custody of Daniel and child support. In his response, Benoit sought joint custody.
The bodies were found Monday afternoon in three rooms of the house, off a gravel road.
Ballard said that Benoit's wife, 43, was killed Friday in an upstairs family room, her feet and wrists were bound and there was blood under her head, indicating a possible struggle. Ballard told ESPN.com that it appeared that she had been pinned to the floor and asphyxiated with some sort of cable.
The son, Daniel, was probably killed late Saturday or early Sunday, the body found in his bed, Ballard said. The district attorney indicated that he had been choked to death.
Benoit, 40, apparently killed himself several hours and as long as a day later, Ballard said. His body was found in a downstairs weight room, his body found hanging from the pulley of a piece of exercise equipment. Ballard said that he had used weights, the pulley and cable to choke himself to death.
The prosecutor said he found it "bizarre" that the WWE wrestling star spread out the killings over a weekend and appeared to remain in the house for up to a day with the bodies. Ballard told ESPN.com that investigators smelled what they ascertained to be decomposing bodies when they entered the home. The varying degrees of decomposition between the bodies helped indicate the staggered times of death.
Toxicology test results may not be available for weeks or even months, he said. As for whether steroids played a role in the crime, he said: "We don't know yet. That's one of the things we'll be looking at."
Steroids have been linked to the deaths of several professional wrestlers in recent years. Eddie Guerrero, one of Benoit's best friends, died in 2005 from heart failure linked to long-term steroid use.
The father of Curt "Mr. Perfect" Hennig blamed steroids and painkillers for Hennig's drug overdose death in 2003. Davey Boy Smith, the "British Bulldog," died in 2002 from heart failure that a coroner said was probably caused by steroids.
Benoit was a quiet, roughhewn figure amid the glitz and bluster of pro wrestling. He performed under his real name, eschewed scripted personas and didn't bother to fix a gap where he had lost one of his front teeth. (According to the WWE Web site, he lost the tooth while roughhousing with his pet Rottweiler.)
His signature move was the "Crippler Crossface," in which he would lock his hands around an opponent's face and stretch his neck.
He met his wife in the 1990s when she was married to rival wrestler Kevin Sullivan. As part of the scripted rivalry, Benoit and Nancy were supposed to act as if they were having an affair. A real romance blossomed, and she left Sullivan for Benoit.
Neighbors said the Benoits led a low-key lifestyle.
"We would see Chris walking in his yard from time to time. He wasn't rude, but he wasn't really outwardly warm," said Alaina Jones, who lives across the street.
Jimmy Baswell, who was Benoit's driver for more than five years, placed a white wreath at the Benoits' gate. "They always seemed like they were the happiest people," he said.
World Wrestling Entertainment said on its Web site that it asked authorities to check on Benoit and his family after being alerted by friends who received "several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning."
The WWE, based in Stamford, Conn., said authorities asked that it not release further information on the deaths.
"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy," the company said in a statement on its Web site.
"He was like a family member to me, and everyone in my family is taking it real hard," said fellow Canadian Bret Hart, a five-time champion with the World Wrestling Federation. The federation has since changed its name to World Wrestling Entertainment.
Benoit had maintained a home in Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling. The Fayette County Tax Assessors Office lists the value of the house, on more than 8.5 acres, at nearly $900,000.
The WWE canceled its live "Monday Night RAW" card in Corpus Christi, Texas, after the bodies were discovered.
Monday's show was supposed to be a memorial service for WWE owner Vince McMahon. In a storyline concocted by the WWE, McMahon was supposedly "assassinated" in a limousine explosion two weeks earlier. McMahon appeared at the beginning of Monday's telecast and acknowledged the bombing was made up.
The McMahon storyline has been dropped.
Benoit had two other children from a prior relationship.

Vince McMahon saying dont blame it on steroids in latest statement
http://www.pwtorch.com/artman/publis...le_20645.shtml

WWE'S LATEST STATEMENT...

STAMFORD, Conn., June 26, 2007 - World Wrestling Entertainment is stunned and saddened by the details released by local authorities concerning the double homicide-suicide involving Chris Benoit, his wife, Nancy, and his son, Daniel.

However, WWE is concerned with the sensationalistic reporting and speculation being undertaken by some members of the media following the press conference held by the Fayette County Sheriff's Department and the District Attorney. During the press conference, the investigating authorities made the following points, all of which run contrary to the media speculation that "roid rage" was a factor in the senseless murders and suicide:

1. The authorities stated that all drugs found in the house were believed to be legal prescriptions.

2. Steroids were not, and could not, be related to the cause of death (asphyxiation). Authorities had no factual basis to speculate as to Benoit's state of mind, and rightly did not do so.

3. Toxicology tests have not even been completed, so there is no current evidence that Benoit even had steroids or any other substance in his body. In that regard, on the last test done on Benoit by WWE's independently administered drug testing program, done on April 10, 2007, Benoit tested negative.

4. The physical findings announced by authorities indicate deliberation, not rage. The wife's feet and hands were bound and she was asphyxiated, not beaten to death. By the account of the authorities, there were substantial periods of time between the death of the wife and the death of the son, again suggesting deliberate thought, not rage. The presence of a Bible by each is also not an act of rage.

5. WWE strongly suggests that it is entirely wrong for speculators to suggest that steroids had anything to do with these senseless acts, especially when the authorities plainly stated there is no evidence that Benoit had steroids in his body, pending the toxicological reports, and that they had no evidence at this time as to the motive for these acts.

WWE is continuing to monitor the ongoing investigation being conducted by local authorities

Re: Chris Benoit Dead.....

there is a lot of judgment being passed in this thread.

If you have never personally dealt with clinical depression due to a chemical imbalance, I don't think you should pass judgment.

Do you think this guy wanted to kill his kid?? NO way. His wife, maybe.

Moderate to severe depression can put you in a world of darkness and alter your outlook on everything. This, combined with the steroids that these pro wrestler have to use to look the part, I find this very sad. Imagine the mental hell he must have been going through to make him think killing his kid was necessary.

They are all victims, even Chris. It's just very very sad.

2. One's temper while doing so is greatly increased, as are depressive/suicidal tendencies

WWE's McMahon to Address Benoit Tribute

By James Hibberd
WWE Chairman Vince McMahon will address viewer complaints about the three-hour USA Network tribute to pro wrestler Chris Benoit that aired Monday night, a WWE spokesman confirmed.
The WWE and USA Network received criticisms of the tribute, which was hastily produced after Mr. Benoit, his wife and their son were found dead in their Georgia home Monday afternoon.
Authorities said Tuesday that Mr. Benoit strangled his wife and suffocated his son, then took his own life. But WWE and network officials were unaware of the circumstances of Mr. Benoit's death when the tribute was assembled, sources said.
The WWE canceled its regularly scheduled "Monday Night RAW" event on USA Network Monday night and aired the tribute in its place.
Mr. McMahon will address wrestling fans tonight on Sci Fi Channel's live Extreme Championship Wrestling. Sources said Mr. McMahon planned to apologize for the tribute special, but a WWE spokesman said Mr. McMahon is still working on his comments and may address the issue without apologizing per se.
The WWE plans to resume its regular wrestling telecasts, which air on USA Network, Sci Fi Channel and the CW.
Earlier, the WWE issued a statement protesting media speculation that Mr. Benoit may have murdered his family due to "roid rage." Prescription anabolic steroids were found in the wrestler's home. The statement noted the drugs were legal and that toxicology tests have not been completed.
"WWE strongly suggests that it is entirely wrong for speculators to suggest that steroids had anything to do with these senseless acts, especially when the authorities plainly stated there is no evidence that Benoit had steroids in his body, pending the toxicological reports, and that they had no evidence at this time as to the motive for these acts," read the statement.

But away from the limelight, the 40-year-old Fayette County resident was struggling with family issues he couldn't defeat. The results were tragic.
Over the weekend, Benoit strangled his wife, Nancy Benoit, 43, and their son, Daniel, 7, and placed Bibles next to their bodies before hanging himself with cord from a weight machine, authorities said Tuesday.
She was found in an upstairs den at the family's 2-year-old traditional frame home, wrapped in a towel, her wrists and feet bound. Daniel, who had recently completed classes at the First Baptist Church school in Peachtree City, was in his bed.
Fayette County Sheriff's Lt. Tommy Pope said steroids were found at the house.
"There were some prescription medications ... that we believe at this time were legal prescriptions," Pope said.
Police said Benoit, a native of Montreal, probably killed his wife of seven years Friday and his son Saturday before hanging himself in the basement of their home Saturday.
No note was left, and people who knew Benoit were at a loss to explain the carnage.
"The Chris I know couldn't have done this," said James Robison, a manager at Partners Pizza in Peachtree City, where the Benoits would go on the Fourth of July before the fireworks began.
"They'd sit right over there in that booth," he said, pointing to a booth by the window in the shopping center restaurant. "I definitely won't be here on that night. It'll be too painful."
"I met them in 2004 and I used to tease Chris about wrestling being fake," said Angela Hall, holding a disposable camera and wiping away tears during a visit to the Benoit home Tuesday. She knew them as shoppers at the Publix just outside Peachtree City, where she worked at the deli. "I told him, 'You sure make it look real.' "
"It's indescribable," she said of the killings. "I still don't believe it.'
The Rev. Kenneth Brown, pastor of First Baptist Church, called them "a regular family." First Baptist school workers are putting together information packets to help parents and children deal with the grief.
Deputies went to check on Benoit after his employer, World Wrestling Entertainment, told them he had missed out-of-state engagements. Benoit failed to appear at Saturday's live wrestling event in Beaumont, Texas, and at WWE's "Vengeance: Night of Champions" in Houston on Sunday night. WWE told Sunday's pay-per-view fans that Benoit had a "family emergency."
The Benoits had been together since 1997 and were married in 2000. He had two other children from a former marriage.
Benoit met his future wife while wrestling for Ted Turner's defunct World Championship Wrestling.
At the time, she was Nancy Sullivan, married to someone else and managing several wrestlers under the stage name "Woman."
Her then-husband dreamed up a story line in which she and Benoit were romantically involved. That fantasy soon turned to reality.
Signs of trouble in the Benoit marriage became apparent in May 2003, when Nancy Benoit filed for divorce and sought court protection from her husband.
In the protective order petition, she said Benoit "lost his temper and threatened to strike the petitioner and cause extensive damage to the home."
But three months later, the couple reconciled and the petition was dismissed.
Chris Benoit's only other known brush with the legal system occurred in September 1998, when Peachtree City police arrested him on a DUI charge.
He was observed parked late at night in front of a house on Fairfield Drive. "Mr. Benoit stated that he used to live in the house until his divorce a year ago," the police report says. "He stated he was sitting there 'reminiscing.' "
The Benoits lived on eight acres in a semi-rural area east of Peachtree City. Their house, soft brown with white trim, is set well back from the road behind a stacked stone wall and iron gate.
Dave Meltzer, publisher of the Wrestling Observer newsletter, said medication is a part of the pro wrestling culture. Benoit broke his neck about six years ago, which put him out of action for more than a year.
"I know [his wife] was concerned about the drugs — painkillers and the steroids," Meltzer said. "That was a problem."
Pope said Benoit had text-messaged a co-worker, but he didn't reveal the contents of the message.
Benoit was just under 6 feet and about 230 pounds. Meltzer said he was a wrestler's wrestler, more technique than show.
"He wasn't the biggest star," he said, "but if you ask me who the best wrestler was ... that would be the name I would say — Chris Benoit."
While a teenager in Edmonton, Alberta, Benoit fell in love with wrestling after seeing the Dynamite Kid.
He wrestled in Japan in the early 1990s as the Pegasus Kid before heading to the United States in 1994 and becoming the Canadian Crippler.
He was an "enigma," according to his attorney in the divorce proceeding, Stanley Levitt, because the Crippler "was one of the most gentle and soft-spoken people I had run across in a very long time."
Robison, the pizza manager, would agree. They met several years ago while checking in for a tanning bed appointment. Robison joked Benoit was trying to push ahead.
"Chris just stepped back and apologized over and over again. He was so sorry," Robison recalled.
That was a far different time from last weekend.
"I know it happened," Robison said, "but it's a total mystery."

New York steroids case linked to dead pro wrestler Chris Benoit

The Associated Press - ALBANY, N.Y.
Pro wrestler Chris Benoit, who authorities said Tuesday strangled his wife, suffocated his 7-year-old son and hung himself in his Georgia home, had previously received drug deliveries from a Florida business that sold steroids on the Internet, according to the Albany County District Attorney's Office.
Heather Orth, spokeswoman for District Attorney P. David Soares, confirmed the connection between Benoit and MedXLife.com, first reported in The Times Union of Albany. In business for about three years, the company was selling steroids, human growth hormone and testosterone over the Internet, officials said.
Georgia investigators said they found anabolic steroids in the house of the man nicknamed "The Canadian Crippler." The district attorney confirmed that Benoit had previously been a regular customer of MedXLife.
"After learning about the tragic deaths over the weekend, we were able to confirm that professional wrestler Christopher Benoit received packages from Signature Pharmacy and MedXLife," Soares said in a written statement.
MedXLife sold prescription medications, including anabolic steroids, through Orlando, Fla.-based Signature Compounding Pharmacy, prosecutors said. Two co-owners of MedXLife pleaded guilty to prescription drug charges April 25.
In New York, it is illegal for a doctor to prescribe drugs without examining the patient in person, and illegal for a pharmacy to dispense prescription drugs without a valid prescription.
Georgia investigators want to know if steroids, which can cause paranoia, depression and explosive outbursts known as "roid rage," played any role in the deaths of the Benoit family. The 40-year-old former World Wrestling Entertainment champion used a weight-machine pulley to hang himself.
Authorities Tuesday offered no motive for the killings, which were spread out over a weekend, and would not discuss Benoit's state of mind. No suicide note was found.
Greg Trotta, 38, and Brian Schafler, 34 _ two co-owners of MedXLife and both of Delray Beach, Fla. _ pleaded guilty to felony third-degree diversion of prescription medications and prescriptions, admitting they helped get drugs in 2006 for customers in upstate New York who had no medical need for them. They also agreed to cooperate with prosecutors. The business produced about $5 million in annual revenue.
Dr. Gary Brandwein, of Boca Raton, Fla., a 44-year-old osteopath, has pleaded not guilty to six counts in Albany County Court related to the criminal sale of a controlled substance. A co-owner of MedXLife, he was accused of signing and sending prescriptions without ever seeing patients.
The investigation into steroid sales began Feb. 27 when Soares' office, along with members of a Florida drug task force, raided Signature's Orlando offices.
Six people have pleaded guilty in the Albany investigation, and 20 more have been arrested, including doctors and pharmacists.
Prosecutors say they targeted distributors, not customers, who reportedly included several professional athletes.

Re: Chris Benoit Dead.....

Detailed WWE/Benoit timeline

Written: June 26, 2007

Below is a detailed WWE/Chris Benoit timeline from Saturday to Monday:
Saturday, June 23, 2007
Chris Benoit was scheduled to appear at the WWE Smackdown/ ECW live event in Beaumont, Texas
3:30pm
A co-worker received a voice message from Benoit. The message from Benoit stated he missed his flight and over slept and would be late to the WWE Live Event. The co-worker called Benoit back, Benoit confirmed everything he said in his voice message and sounded tired and groggy. Benoit then stated, “I love you”. The co-worker stated that it was “out of context.”
3:42pm
The same co-worker was concerned with Benoit’s tone and demeanor and called Benoit for a second time. Benoit did not answer the call and the co-worker left a message stating “just call me back.”
3:44pm
Benoit called the co-worker back stating he didn’t answer the call because he was on the phone with Delta changing his flight. Benoit stated he had a real stressful day due to Nancy and Daniel being sick with food poisoning. They discussed travel plans for the WWE Tour of Texas with Benoit still sounding groggy at this point according to the co-worker.
4:30pm
A co-worker who consistently travels with Benoit, called Benoit from outside Houston airport and Benoit answered. Benoit told the co-worker that Nancy was throwing up blood and that Daniel was also throwing up. Benoit thought they had food poisoning. Benoit stated he changed his flight and he would be arriving into Houston at 6:30pm. Benoit told the co-worker to drive onto the WWE event.
5:35pm
Benoit called WWE Talent Relations stating that his son was throwing up and that he and Nancy were in the hospital with their son, and that Benoit would be taking a later flight into Houston, landing late, but would make the WWE live event in Beaumont.
6:10pm
A representative of Talent Relations called Benoit. The representative from Talent Relations asked Benoit what time Benoit was getting into Beaumont. Benoit responded he was leaving Atlanta at 9:20pm Eastern time arriving into Houston at 9:24pm Central time. The representative from Talent Relations advised Benoit that it would be too late to make the WWE live event in Beaumont. Benoit apologized citing he had a family emergency. The representative from Talent Relations suggested to Benoit that instead of going to the WWE live event in Beaumont, Benoit should take the flight to Houston, rest up and be ready for the Vengeance Pay-Per-View event.
6:13pm
The representative from Talent Relations called Benoit to reconfirm the travel plans with no answer from Benoit. The representative from Talent Relations left a voice message to take the flight and rest up.

Re: Chris Benoit Dead.....

I think I just heard that police believe that the young son was also being injected with steroids and they mentioned dwarfism.

I had no idea that this fake sport was even big around here. It's the most uncooth, ungracious spectacle short of jerry springer that the culture offers. I asked yesterday what the allure was and a fellow said it was "soap opera for men." I wonder about that as I don't equate "manly" with "macho."

DA: Wrestler's Son May Have Died in Chokehold
New Clues in Murder-Suicide but Still No Motive
June 27, 2007 ?

Investigators said they did not have a motive for the Chris Benoit family murder spree, but they did have new clues in the case.
.
Nancy Benoit, Benoit's wife of seven years who had also performed with the World Wrestling champion in the ring, was in the upstairs office Friday when she was attacked, investigators said.

Scott Ballard, the Fayette County District Attorney, said that Nancy Benoit was bound at her feet and wrists.

"There was a bruise in the small in her back as if a knee was placed there," Ballard said today on "Good Morning America."

Investigators believe Benoit waited until Saturday morning to kill his 7-year-old son, Daniel, in the boy's bedroom. Ballard told ABC News the boy may have died after being put in a wrestling chokehold.

Police found Benoit dead in his basement as he hanged from weight-lifting equipment.

'Roid Rage' Still Speculation

Investigators are still searching for a motive in the deaths.

Benoit's wife filed a temporary restraining order and filed for divorce in May 2003, claiming her husband "lost his temper and threatened her." She withdrew the divorce petition in August 2003.

While there was trouble behind closed doors on the surface it appeared Benoit had it all, making more than half a million dollars a year and living in a $900,000 home.

Investigators said that prescription medication, including anabolic steroids, were found in Benoit's home.

Toxicology reports won't be available for weeks, so at this point there is no way to tell if steroids played a part in the deaths, investigators said.

Doctors said steroids can prompt personality changes like impatience and violent mood swings known as "roid rage."

"When people have 'roid rage,' their impulses are not restrained, so at the slightest provocation, they'll put a fist through a wall," said Dr. Gary Walder of the New York University School of Medicine.

Steroid use has cast a shadow over pro wrestling for some time. Debra Marshall , a former wrestler, said the pressure to use can be immense.

"It's a very highly competitive world and you got to look good and if you don't look good, you lose your job," Marshall said.
