A Baseball Prop - I like Alot - What do you think?

I only see it at PInnacle now. But I assume Thegreek will have it soon too.

<TABLE onmouseover="changeto(event, '#E6E6E6')" style="WIDTH: 100%" onmouseout="changeback(event, '#E6E6E6')" border=0><TBODY><TR class=Column_Headers_Odds id=ctl00_MCPH_CL_ignore_9><TD style="WIDTH: 25%">Sun 3/30</TD><TD colSpan=2>Most Wins by MLB team?</TD></TR><TR class=AlternatingData1><TD>07:00 AM</TD><TD style="WIDTH: 53%">419 Over</TD><TD style="WIDTH: 22%">99.5 wins +115</TD></TR><TR class=AlternatingData1><TD> </TD><TD>420 Under</TD><TD>99.5 wins -131</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

UNDER 99.5 has alot of value in my eyes.

Last season Boston and Cleveland tied for the most wins with 96.

I dont se anyone in the PARITY-filled National League winning more than 95.

What do you think?

Re: A Baseball Prop - I like Alot - What do you think?

I think the value lies in the over. If you research, most years there will be at least one if not more clubs with 100 wins, last year was an aberration, and in the AL especially with all the strong teams, one will have an injury-free season and surpass 99.5 wins.

Re: A Baseball Prop - I like Alot - What do you think?

munson i think you just argued against yourself with that "all the strong teams"...
much easier to get to 100 if there's only ONE dominant team rather than having the yankees, red sox, detroit, etc all fighting for wins. if it were 5 years ago before the milwaukees of the world could spend money and compete, then i would agree with the over.
but with the bump up in revenue sharing, i don't think we'll see too many 60 win teams anymore.

so i have to go with mad capper on this one. but your money is tied up for quite a while on a line that isn't "that" far off imho.

Re: A Baseball Prop - I like Alot - What do you think?

Lots of weak sisters in the AL. These big clubs can clean up on the dregs of the league, and the one whose pitching stays healthy will win 100. Just check the last few year's standings and see how often 100 wins is achieved. That is the indicator that over is the way to go, IMO.
2001-2005 there were teams with 100 wins, 2006-2007 not. Going back a little further, there were 100 win clubs in 8 of the last 11 years including the 2-year drought we're in now.

I like the over as well.

More often than not there is at least one team over 100 wins.

Re: A Baseball Prop - I like Alot - What do you think?

Had Boston not had such a big lead and then been strickened by injuroes they would ahve made it to 100...Munson is right more often then not somebody makes it to 100.

Re: A Baseball Prop - I like Alot - What do you think?

Injuries are part of the game. If the Yankees didnt start off so horrible they would have won well over 100. I think there's alot more parity now. More 90 win teams. But no 100 win teams.

FWIW in 2006 NO teams won 100 and in 2005 only 1 team reached 100.

Re: A Baseball Prop - I like Alot - What do you think?

of course injuries are part of it...I have researched this one all the way back to division play (1969) in the past...and am certain more often than not there's at least one 100 win team...your point about the NL is a good one.

DET NYY BOS CLE , I doubt an AL West team can get there. One of those 4 wll make it IMO.

If I had to bet I'd take Detroit.

Re: A Baseball Prop - I like Alot - What do you think?

that stat is a bit misleading munson (imho).
in 2006 florida was the only team under $35 million.
in 2007 tampa joined the party.

and so many more teams are now in that "middle range group".
look at 2002 payrolls:

Re: A Baseball Prop - I like Alot - What do you think?

Whatever way you want to argue it, if I'm getting +115 on an event that has occurred 8 of the last 11 times, and I feel it's likely to happen again, that's the side that has value. Remember, the original question regarded value, and the + side of the equation has it, IMO. The payrolls have increased and revenue sharing has had an effect, but Tampa, KC, Oakland, Baltimore, and Texas are still bottom feeders and can be cleaned up on by the healthiest of the "haves" which should result in some club reaching 100 wins. I'll throw the Twins into the "have-not" pile if they deal Santana, too. You don't like Boston or New York to win 100 if they get Santana?

Looking at the table of payrolls, it looks like the NL is ripe for a 100-win season if one of their stronger teams gets hot and stays injury-free, too. There are plenty of rotten, cheap teams in that group. I may even put my money where my mouth is on this now that MC got me to analyze it a little.

Re: A Baseball Prop - I like Alot - What do you think?

The bet is for only one team and in 8 of the last 11 years, at least 1 has done it.

More parity now. Especially in the National League.

Last season NO NL team won more than 90 games!

In 2006 only 1 NL team won more than 90.

That leaves it up to NYY, BOS, DET, LAA and Cleveland.

Thats just 5 teams that have a shot at 100. I can see all of them finishing between 91 and 96 wins.

HAHA....then you're very much welcome :)

Re: A Baseball Prop - I like Alot - What do you think?

cheers and good luck to both.
i can see both sides of this argument, it's an interesting bet.

one of the downsides of going "under" is you're rooting against all the best teams the last couple of weeks when many of their opponents will be playing september callups. could result in some shouting and cussing at the tv. :+textinb3

:cheers

good to just be thinking of baseball when it's over a month to pitchers and catchers yet.
