In the Early 80's, after her much publicized split from husband/manager, Ike Turner, Tina Turner set out to resurrect her career....she gave Ike everything they owned in the divorce, only to keep her "stage name", and vowed to once again be on top....and thats exactly what she did.....her solo career has spanned 20+ years, and she has hit the top 40 over 15 times, and sold over 30 million albums/cd's....pretty impressive, for a divorcee' in mid 40's......

Tina is known for her gorgeous legs, and they have been a trademark of her stellar career...it was reported back in the 80's that they were insured by "Lloyds of London" for 2 million each...........I have always thought she was sexy in a different sort of way....she really isnt "pretty" as much as she is sexy....but man can she sing.....

Below i will count down what i consider to be the top 10 Tina Turner songs, including her early years with Ike.....

In her second attempt at a soundtrack hit, Tina became one of many to score a hit with a "Bond" song.....not her best effort, but still a hit....

Tina was touring with The Temptations in the early 80's, struggling to find a label to accept her as a "solo" act....she was deemed unmarketable at her age, to sell albums, and was percieved as only a "stage act" to tour.......she recorded her version of the classic song "Lets Stay Together" and it was released in Europe, to rave reviews, and became a big hit.....it was later released in the US, and became a top 20 hit, and big r&b hit all over again, and Capitol Records decided they might have been wrong, and decided to give her a shot....her debut solo album sold over 10 million copies, won record of the year, along with 4 grammys, and the rest is history

Tina scored an even bigger hit with this soundtrack classic for the "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" soundtrack, a movie which she also starred in....it was a huge top 10 hit

The song that finally proved Tina belonged.......It became her first #1 single ever, and later became the title of the movie depicting her struggles with Ike, and her future success, with Angela Bassett playing Tina....

Tina's first big hit, back with Ike, this is a classic R&B song, and typical Tina.......i couldnt find a quality version on youtube, so i used the version from the movie, since its still Tina singing anyway.....

One of the best ballads Tina ever did....what a beautiful song, and very poignant lyrics.......became another huge hit from her debut solo album

If it weren't for the CLASSIC TINA song at #1, this would be my favorite Tina song of all time....just a great song, and she sings it great...i used the Divas 1999 live version here, cuz its a great video, and the opening with her "legs" coming in, sums up Tina in a nutshell...

It goes without saying what the #1 Tina Turner classic is.....possibly no other song is so associated with an artist (especially when they arent even the original artist)...But once she recorded it, it became hers forever..

they might have "created" the images and the personas, but they definitely werent the "talent" in the 2 duos.....

I beg to differ my e-friend...

Sonny and Ike wrote and arranged the songs. Yes, the ladies sang well but Cher still raves about how Sonny put her on the map with his talent.

And had Ike not ingested titanic amounts of cocaine and beat the living snot out of her, Tina would say the same about Ike.

I am saying that both the women went on to have great careers long after the guys were gone, so it wasnt JUST THEIR MUSIC or the MANAGING that made the women...not saying they didnt matter, but the women didnt suffer once they parted ways......

I would say that Ike was more instrumental in Tina's success than Sonny was with Cher......she had much more success in her later years, both singing and acting...

You are mistaken..........Cher and Tina went on to have great careers on their own..........

Results speak for themselves...............Not really even debatable..........

thanks man, i appreciate it.......i just do one every now and then, not trying to flood the forum with them, but some people enjoy seeeing the music of the icons all in one location, and some info on them......

Tina was one of the best..

awesome video i just found from this years Grammy Awards, and a salute to Tina, with the ultra sexy Beyonce....great video, and just remember, that Tina is 68 friggin years old out there, and performing like this...pretty amazing.....great stuff here
