"Seven Days Without Gambling Makes One Weak"
Re: Best Scene In A Gambling Related Movie?

Has anyone here seen the movie 'The Air I Breathe" ?

A guy who knows nothing about gambling is in the stall of the bathroom & overhears 3 of his coworkers talking about a guaranteed fix in a horse race & what the name of the horse is. He finds the joint where the wagers go down & puts down $50,000 with the guys taking the bets without having to front the money. They're watching the race, horse who's in on the fix starts out slow, comes on strong to take the lead, but gets tangled up with other horses & gets taken out, so the bet loses. Keep in mind guy knows nothing about how it all works & thought it was a sure thing so is stunned & confused when he realizes he lost......

As far as classic, and acting, would have to go with Steve McQueen in a very oldie, Cincinatti Kid. Just got trashed in biggest game ever against biggest player. The entire life he wanted is crushed on the turn of one card. He goes outside to pitch a coin against the shoe shine boy, a little black kid, and the shoe shine boy beats him and says, you ain't ready for me yet.

The bathtub radio kicking screen and Axel going postal trying to get a play from college gurus was another. Those two movies were the best of my early years. No bs happy ending, no sugar coated plots. The acting in both was also first rate though many other stars in Cincy Kid.

The clubhouse scene when Richard Dreyfuss is trying to "big-time" it up with Bernie and his young wife (Jennifer Tilly) and her tata's in LET IT RIDE

Two great gambling scenes in a couple of Seinfeld episodes involving Kramer.

One where he hears two airhead "expert" guys on the subway discussing a horserace so he rushes to the OTB, parroting verbatim the "expert" nonsense he heard to any desperate guy who will listen. (It's funny, but it's what you hear daily for real in Las Vegas sportsbooks.)

The other great scene is Kramer in the waiting lounge at the airport, betting on airline flights with some "good 'ol boy" who just crushes him.

In the film, Lost In America, the Albert Brook's character negotiating with the casino manager to return his life savings that his wife lost overnight. (It doesn't work.)
also the SEINFELD when Kramer is at OTB "his mutha was a mudda."

Nothing close for all of us that gamble on sports ...

The next chunk of the movie is concerned with how a man who earns $1500 a month teaching is going to pay back $44,000. The thing is that Hips really likes Axel, and he is not totally prepared to "take a baseball bat to [his] fucking skull." Hips has some weird notion that because Axel is a literature professor, that he should e treated with a bit more respect than the typical degenerates, who get dispensed with much haste and relish by a goon named Carmine (Rocky's Burt Young, of course). Hips yells as Axel a lot, but doesn't really do much to him. Axel eventually convinces his mother to lend him the $44,000, which she very reluctantly gives him. And, instead of paying Hips back, he takes his uber-hot lady friend (who, since she is from Texas, Axle calls, "Rebel *****") to Las Vegas for some hardcore gambling. In a scene that has been subsequently ripped off by The Good Thief, Axel slightly more than doubles his money. Moreover, he has three sure-fire bets in on some college games, and it looks like he is going to be totally free and clear and off any hook. And you can guess what happens next.

Turns out that the three teams he picked (one of which was Harvard, those "Ivy league ***gots") all choked in the fourth quarter and he owes another bookie $45,000. He pays him in cash, and as the dude is barely out the door, Axel begs him to let him put a $50,000 last minute straight up bet on the Lakers/Sonics game that is starting in fifteen minutes. The bookie balks at first and eventually relents. In what is really one of the best scenes in recent memory, we get to watch as Axel sits in a bathtub listening to the game. I will tell you that the Lakers lose. I will not even attempt to explain what happens on Caan's face at the exact moment when Seattle beats LA by one point as time expires. Rent the film for this scene alone. Anyhow, once again, Alex cannot pay back Hips.

great scene and movie

The selections listed were good. there was a movie called "The Runner"-about a person hired to make wagers. He fell into temptation in it.-not to bad-
