I remember someone saying they were one, maybe in the I think Halloween is stupid thread. I could sure use some professional advice.

I'm a menace, a dentist, an oral hygentist
Open your mouth for about four or five minutes
Take a little bit of this flouride rinse
Swish but don't spit it, swallow and I'll finish

Re: OT: Is there a dentist in the house?

Supposedly tooth #3 a molar. I have a life long friend dentist, who is my normal guy. I do my every 6 months checkups and have excellent dental hygeine. That tooth has a filling, and between last visit and this a nasty cavity formed under the filling, where I could neither brush nor floss. He just said oh my God I can't believe this happened between checkups and so fast, as he compared X rays and one was clean and the latest has a huge dark spot under that filling. Then he says the roots are also gone, and it looks calcified. So it is out of his league.

Here are some of the issues. I had a old root canal crown made and used a good chunk of my $1500 yearly allowance dental benefit. I have been referred to a specialist, but tried to gut it out until next year. But it hurts bad, I mean real bad, and I involuntarily tear up doing anything, breathing through my my mouth, talking, let alone eating. One incidental side benefit, I've lost almost 10 pounds.

Is there anyway I can just gut this out for 60 more days? Maybe some numzit or motrin? What is normally done on something like this, and how much should it cost? He said it has three roots but they are all gone, which is going to be tough. I might just have the damn thing pulled. I feel like doing a Tom Hanks in Castaway and bashing it out with a rock, it could not hurt much worse. What are my alternatives here?

I am in too much pain to even see the irony in it. Blondie is in a can't do anything about it situation. And this is straightforward dental advice, and I saw there was a member who said he was a dentist. Who am I supoosed to ask? The specialist? He will say the most expensive treatment. If you were in front of me now I would bash you with the rock before my fucked up tooth.

Re: OT: Is there a dentist in the house?

If you risk waiting 60 days there is an chance that the cavity will turn into another root canal and if it's really bad, you risk the tooth being too damaged to save, and you'll have to get it extracted and have a fake tooth put in. Cost for all that- $4k+

Trust me, I know. My I dated a chick who's dad was a dentist for 4 years. He thought me far more than I would ever want to know about dentistry.

Re: OT: Is there a dentist in the house?

Supposedly it is already to root canal stage. And the roots have retracted way down, are not even visible on the X ray. I am at the point I don't care about the tooth, I might have it extracted anyway, depending on cost and benefit, which I have to weigh out now. And if I get it yanked I seriously doubt I will have it replaced, not going to look like Hillbilly Bob way back there. But thanks for the advice, I really don't know what the hell I'm going to do. I'm either fucked, or real fucked.

Re: OT: Is there a dentist in the house?

It is costing me money left and right. I have a business and have to get things done before the Winter. Yesterday it was such a distraction it almost got me killed. I am dropping these shitty willow trees and the first one falls over sideways despite perfect directional cuts and lands on my chain saw, smashing the chain brake. And this is a expensive pro saw. Then after fixing it in the field I have a second tree just split like shit and almost falls on me, throws the chain completely off because I am running it without the chain brake cover. I dodged two bullets there. Tomorrow I have a big freight drop off and have to relocate inventory.

My biggest fear on the tooth is it gets to infection or abcess stage, then oral surgery or death. Where is that tooth extraction rock?

How old are you bud? Honestly if you are not cared about the astethics of it just pay 100.00 and pull the fucker. Its not like you have a history of rotten teeth and whats one tooth. Plenty more where that came from. Fuck all that money when you could put that down on some good games this weekend. Get ride of the tooth and get your minty fresh breath back.......

Re: OT: Is there a dentist in the house?

I qualify for AARP. I'm thinking the same thing. If that is all it costs I am yanking it. My breath isn't like shit or anything, but I just can't focus, can't think, eat, sleep, I can't even fuck. Are you sure it only costs $100 to pull it? That seems low. They charge $100 just for walking in the door. X rays, Nitrous, and extraction, give me a reasonable cost.

There is no pain worse than a bad tooth ache. Fuck that Padron, pulled that mother. Have a buddy that had perfect teeth, but every once in a while would get a terrible tooth ache. He had all his back teeth pulled and put implants in. Spent almost 30k he said. Wow! That's a lot of moola for teeth.

Re: OT: Is there a dentist in the house?

30K? No way. And it's only one crappy tooth. way in the back where it won't matter. If no serious consequences, I'll leave the gap. Already had all wisdoms yanked, that was a load of laughs. Saved them with plier marks in them. And that was after having to chew the gums off of them when they finally came out in the military.

Re: OT: Is there a dentist in the house?

Not sure what part of the country you live in but here is a tip to save you some cash. Take the x-ray that your buddy took and then take that to the guy who pulls the teeth and that will save you a few bucks. Max cost I bet would be 150.00 total. Now whats the nba winner we where talking about?

Re: OT: Is there a dentist in the house?

OK, I can check into that. Nice tip. This one is moving, Kings Over, action points if you can. If not, just a large play, largest of the season so far.

One tooth turns into the teeth surrounding it. I'm speaking from experience, if it wasn't for my ex-gf's dad, I would be fucked b/c of the exact same thing. I traded him some NFL picks for all the work I had done and when all was said and done, over 3 years, it was close to the $30k that Duster mentioned.

I used to say that he actually bought my Benz for me as I wouldn't have considered buy one if I had to pay him for all that work...

Take care of it, Padron. It will only start hurting worse and worse. I one time was in so much pain that I had a tooth extracted in the middle of the night b/c I couldn't take it. GF's dad did it for me, and called me a fukkin pussy after. LOL

Re: OT: Is there a dentist in the house?

Do not get it pulled if you do not have to. Root canal will be best and will take care of the pain. If the teeth next to the bad one are ok you can do a partial if pulled. An implant, just to put the screw in you're jaw is $1700 for a 15 minute procedure. At all costs save the tooth. I just went through this.

Re: OT: Is there a dentist in the house?

Unreal teeth are this expensive. I was pricing out veneers and the cost is just jaw dropping. My buddy's teeth, or should I say fake teeth, look like a movie star, but at 30k? No thanks. If it's way in the back get that thing pulled, but next guy will tell you to have a root canal. Who's really gonna see it way in the back? If it doesn't affect other teeth, get that thing outa there and get rid of the pain.

Re: OT: Is there a dentist in the house?

I'm getting it pulled. Not even sure if I have to or not. Seriously, I would bash it out with a rock if I could. It only has one tooth behind it and it won't show when I smile. It's going to cost less than two bills out the door, I'll bring along the X rays. More money to spend on family at Xmas. If I was younger, or it showed when I smiled I would consider alternatives, even if I have any. But I am getting long in tooth, except for this one, which is getting extracted ASAP. Thanks for all of the awesome advice. To be honest, I was going to go to a specialist before I posted this. For a consultation. Damn this dental work is a major league rip off.

Very strange how bad it fuckin hurts. I guess I am a fuckin pussy. But I have had some major painful injuries and gutted them out like a man. This things throbs, sends shooters all across that side of my upper jaw and actually makes me involutarily cry. And I am the I will be OK kind of guy. The wife said the same thing, you never complain about any pain ever, no matter what, go get it taken care of.

Pain of a bad tooth reaches to the toes. My father gets all his work done with NO Novocaine or gas. I just talked with my dentist late last week and he said that my dad is one of 2 people he works on that uses no pain help.

He also has something that removes the numbness from the Novocaine in 15 minutes after the procedure. Amazing stuff these days. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

No2 gas is the way to go. I've NEVER felt a thing since I changed over to using it for all my work. Yes it costs a very hundo more each time, but WELL worth it, imo.

GL with the tooth, Padron. Let us know what you do and how it works out for ya.

:cheers

Re: OT: Is there a dentist in the house?

Man was that unpleasant. Nitrous was extra so I just said screw it, local. Cavity under filling made it tough, as most of middle of tooth was gone. He broke it into three segments and it was one root at a time and then some leftover fragments. My eyes teared up a bit but he never had to stop from pain. Drooling like a son of a bitch now and local is wearing off. Got some vikes so that will take the edge off. Worst part was so little to grab onto he had to regrip them over and over again. Way more blood then I thought there would be. Never liked that tooth anyway.
