Cellphone vs Internet

So, it's 2011 and I can go to a store and buy a router, hook it up, sign up for monthly service and have high powered wireless Internet all thru my house. But, I get a cellphone and if I'm in
The wrong area of my house, I have zero 'bars' and have to go to another floor to make a call. Why isn't there a similar device I could purchase that can make my cell calls as effective as my Internet surfing?

I didn't know a router on a computer would affect your cell phone reception.

Then again, I just learned that the companies don't call them cell phones like you and I do...a salesperson asked me last week did I mean "wireless" plan. LOL
I must be showing my age.

The router doesn't affect my cell coverage but some houses are just not in great cellphone areas, in other words I have to hope I'm in a good spot to make a call, if I'm in the basement I can't get good cell reception, but the basement is fine for Internet because I have the router.
I must be showing my age.
