Coins are legal tender, and will always be, so worst case you can just exchange them at a bank for face value. You can even do that with 1794 dollars if you wanted to but in that case you'd be better off selling them for the numismatic value of 2k - 15k each.

I recently went the simple but longer route. Picked up a huge Poland spring jug, and let my silver accumulate. Rolled up all my pennies, and in the end brought in $84. True meaning to the "save your pennies" phrase.
