Track announcer at Turf Paradise just called the wrong horse getting up at the wire in the first race today.

Granted, it was a 250-yard quarter-horse race, but still...

That's a no-no.

Worse yet, he expressed surprise when the photo sign came down and the numbers went up.

Sheesh!

Needed Charlatan to complete a late double today.

Caught a 14/1 longshot in the race prior to the Saudi Cup.

Loved the way jockey Mike Smith aggressively rode Charlatan to defeat Joel Rosario and Knicks Go.

Only one problem: Smith won the battle with Rosario but lost the war to jock David Egan, who was lurking behind the dueling leaders with longshot Mishriff.

Tough game.

26 Sky Kitten (10-1ML)

For the uninitiated, the Luca code is a two-digit number which lists the race number first and the program number second.

The number "26" represents the #6 horse in today's second race at the Big A.

Post time is set for 1:51 p.m. ET.

Sky Kitten is listed at odds of 10/1 on the morning line.

Pool manipulation in last night's 13th race at Hoosier Park.

Looks like someone bet $1,000 on a 48/1 longshot named Fast Art.

Horse garnered 29% of a $3,500 show pool.

I assume someone was betting in the offshore world or Mexico (Caliente).

#7 Fast Art finished ninth in a field of 10.

Did OK betting a few Monmouth races on Saturday. If one hasn't been following, use of whips is not allowed at Monmouth Park this year. So what effect will that have? I believe deep closers are at a big disadvantage. Granted, those coming from far back are already at a disadvantage, but they usually need driving finishes to get up. Without the "extra urging" of a whip, I believe they are negatively impacted. The other question is, will races be run a bit slower? Have to think it will have an impact on speed figures of all the runners. It also would be interesting to see how those horses coming from Mth do when shipping out. Let's say a horse is coming off a solid race at Mth, where we know he wasn't whipped.....will he have a little extra in the tank when taking on rivals at other tracks?

those are great points Valuist. also some were saying perhaps a bit more random finishes. some horses might not really need a whip compared to others making things a bit more random and thus higher prices on average . will be interesting to see.
