few tracks permit show wagering on 4 horse fields

hell, for the Los Al quarterhorses, they will disable show betting on 8+ horse fields if there's a clear favorite

the tracks that do permit for 4 horse fields get some insane jumping races


I missed the Hawthorne race, but there was no clear favorite, so no big money in the show pool.

thats actually a bit of a complex question. it depends on if the track is true parimutual, or has moved to net pool pricing. if true parimutual the old way it all depends on what other horses also finish in the top 3, in net pool payout method the other finishers do not matter

in both cases it also depends on what the specific state track take out is

let's say Mount/Charles Town with the 2.2 minimum

Mount requires a six number field for show betting. 17.25% takeout, breakage every 20 cents.

I assume it needs to be 75%, approximately.

this will be a big jumper situation. I always thought these super shot ones 2f are good to go against bridge jumper favorites as a bad stumble or hit by horse next to you at start makes it hard to get going. lets see on this one

Sports bettors can be bridge jumpers too. On his program from South Coast Casino in Vegas, last week Brent Musberger reported not one but two players laid $6000 to win $100 on the U Conn women to beat Miss. St. in the semi finals. On a win streak of 111 games and beat them last meeting by 60. Sure thing for an easy $100. Oops!
