Re: Bridge jumper alerts

Agree but Mike Smith knows before the race that millions are bet to place and show on his horse. To not try to get 2nd or 3rd just because he can't win is highway robbery.

In the perfect world, every rider would be all out every race. The reality is riders get paid when they win or run second. They get a basic stipend, like $50 a mount, so it's mostly about winning and running 2nd doesn't hurt. In the case of Arrogate, due to his flat performance, Smith probably thought there could've been something physically wrong (to my knowledge, they didn't find anything wrong with the horse), so he basically quit riding. If it was a $5000 claimer, he probably whips the horse numerous times in the stretch.

Lots of times if a rider is on a cheap claimer who isn't in the best condition they'll try and steer clear of trouble and not push the horse too much to avoid a serious accident.Jockeys don't want to go down for no good reason, sometimes it's safer to just get to the finish line without trouble. On the other hand if the horse is a "go" a jockey will do whatever it takes to get to the wire first.

Re: Bridge jumper alerts

first race as an owner for me the horse had issues where we couldnt get him fit via training for his first race with us
he was going to have to get fit from racing...just make it safely around the track
rider didnt persevere down the stretch
was the rider stiffing?
fair to the betting public?

The 7 has final fractions that would crush the field but hes never run on artificial surface

I also saved with 5 in race 3 juat in case..,,Ive started paying attention to PID more as big final fractions are hitting the winners circle ..late pick 4 last night took 10 mins to handicap

Thats my go to breakfast when in that area...for whatever reason the track surface had a different color to it when I was there a few weeks ago....could somehow account for the rash of final fraction winners

Re: Bridge jumper alerts

On track, virtually no money was bet into the win pool.

I bet it to win as they were loading, chalk was even money.

If you watch the replay, you'll hear Berry reading off the odds.

Then a TON of money came in from ADWs after the race began. Odds changed to 1/9 midway through.

I must have missed the gaffe thread

she tried to bottom out the field around the 1/2 mile pole and she must have been elated with her decision as she crossed the wire in lap 1....wish I could have seen her face when she was pulling up as the field stormed by her
