Don't gamble against the sharps by staying at one number too long.

Allow the sharps to shape your line and ignore the action of proven losers, no matter how large the bet.

I agree, and I always wonder why some think they know more when they have no idea of where a book stands. But, it is the primary reason that I wait til the last minutes to bet. Let the book and smart guys battle, and then I can make my decision on who I think is correct.

That's the only way to get the best number on every game you bet.

Only bet at post time on games that offer the market-low or market-high seconds before the game begins.

He'll be the last guy to tell you but VD almost world class when it comes to BG.

Trust me he's not a guy you want to play, let alone in a chouette with lots of cube action.

Do I play? Yes I do.

And I'm good enough to realize I'm not worth a damn at the game, LOL. :)

:LMAO:LMAO
I am not world class but I did learn from a world class player....

How much a point you playing for Arturo? I play a little.
I have a chouette match every Wednesday with Brian Wall (Grandmaster in chess but just getting started on backgammon) and another poker player the stakes started off friendly by 2019 it might be less gamble for me to just fly to you. Im not kidding.
I have a ton of gamble as you know, these guys are masochist. Brian first roll 6/1 first roll, we roll a 4-3. Brian auto reaches for the cube. Partner looks at me and says you want to double him back now or just take it lol.

What does "book" mean? Book the sharps pocket the squares? Does that mean lay off sharp action?

Hard to believe you asked this of all people. Hope you're feeling better. Nice thread of winners in college hoops a week or so ago. Very refreshing to see.

Re: Business trip to Costa Rica

Just hit the States but I'll be back to Costa Rica later this month.

My trip notes (hey, that's a horse racing term) will be published tomorrow.

I'm not the traveler Drink is, so my comments will serve as instructive error on a couple of fronts.

Loved rubbing elbows with some of the sharpest sports betting minds in the world.

Because San Jose, Costa Rica serves as the sports betting capitol of the world dealing to some of the world's largest gamblers, it follows that the sports book personnel in Costa Rica perform at a much higher level than their counterparts in Las Vegas.

Quick story: There's a customer at CRIS right now who is killing live tennis.

CRIS's in-game model for tennis is not what it should be or could be, so the advantage gambler from Sweden is ahead more than $3 million since he opened his account.

Here's my favorite part of the story: The gambler from Sweden has yet to withdraw any of his winnings.

What is the company's reaction to that kind of loss?

Are they able and prepared to pay it?

What will they do when he does ask for payment?

What size wagers was the bettor making?

Re: Business trip to Costa Rica

It's all bottom line. I'm sure they write against his action by line movement. When you're a large book, you can use a guy like this to make $. I am quite certain, that when the guy wants his $, they will have it for him.

I wanted to ask for the successful tennis bettor's average bet size but the conversation was fast and furious.

I found it interesting how RAYCABINO and Ron Sacco knew certain players not by name but by six-digit account numbers.

They rattled off the numbers as fast as could be and they each knew exactly which customer the other was referencing.

Sidenote: What's difficult about a table of nine is the number of conversations (usually two or three) that break out simultaneously.

Re: Business trip to Costa Rica

Trip report at the end please include.
Total estimated cost-
Favorite dish or new food you'd recommend-
Biggest dissapointment-
Highlight to trip-
You missed America how often-
You'd visit again how soon-
What did you learn that you'll use going forward-
1-5 stars overall rating-

As you know I dont really care for the forum in the state it is in but if you do a trip report. Ill trade you trip reports you can choose where from.
LA (Commerce mid to high stakes mixed games) feb 17-22 march (LAPC)
Nicaragua- Vacation june 12-18 college football prep work begins.
WSOP- (Ill see and owe you a meal or two)
June 20-26 Mixed games and 75/150 omaha 8/stud 8
July 2-7 cape cod, Ma (moms 35th yr anniversary and 65th bday)
November 40th birthday. Rv rental (3 of us all best friends for 20 years now. Might be 4 but a wife isnt cooperating) and attending 7 college football games in 14 days. Sunbelt, c-usa and 1 ACC game, sec possibilities. Still ironing out other stuff... its a working month for me and no one seems to care lol.
Also will be heading to Boston to attend Sloans and Cancun, Mexico for a wedding.

Total estimated cost: Only about $1,500 if you don't include my lousy two-week run of betting college basketball. Room at the Taormina Hotel and Casino was comped by owner Ron Sacco who said he's pleased with the Las Vegas-style hotel after "pumping a lot of money into the property" but he was surprised when Expedia took an 18% cut of the action they attract there. Also stayed one night at the overpriced Sleep Inn (about $100) in the Gringo Gulch district and then found Relax Hostel near La Sabana Park where a single room went for only $26 a night. Food prices are comparable to the States.

Favorite dish or new food you'd recommend
: I'm not a foodie but the pork chops at Olivo's came highly recommended by Mickey Richardson at CRIS. EOG contributor ROCKFISH tabbed the Peruvian restaurant near Sacco's hotel and I ate there three times. Costa Rica is known for its coffee, chocolate and bananas and I indulged in all three.

Biggest disappointment: I made three mistakes. I did not manage my exposure to the bright sun at the start of the two-week trip. As a fair-skinned Irishman, I burned to a crisp the first few days and probably suffered sun stroke at some point in time. I battled through the discomfort so that was a lesson learned. Additionally, I walked everywhere (about 8-10 miles a day) and my feet did not take well to the uneven sidewalks and rough terrain. I suffered a blister on my right foot which limited my basketball playing over the final few days of the trip. And finally, my lack of basic Spanish limited my interactions with the locals. Most people in the travel industry claim wherever you go, people speak English. Not the case with the San Jose locals near La Sabana Park.

Highlight to the trip
: The Friday night dinner hosted by Willy Loman was a real treat. Loman and Ron Sacco were the two most accomplished bookmakers at the table while Jeff Whitelaw and RAYCABINO talked like the two most accomplished gamblers. Veteran oddsmaker Larry Mac offered the funniest line at dinner when he talked about a young Costa Rican girlfriend he once dated. Larry Mac, with more than 40 years in the bookmaking business, said, "She was so young when we went to a restaurant, I would get the senior discount and she would order off the kiddie menu."

I also met Eric Champion, a basketball coach for both the men's and women's national team in Costa Rica. Champion invited me to watch the Boys Under 16 team practice and talked about his connections in the sport of basketball. When I told him I was a basketball junkie from Las Vegas, he was interested to hear about all the basketball activity in town. When I asked Champion to compare the MNT of Costa Rica to a level of play in the States, he said without hesitation, "We're a mid-level Big South team."

You missed America how often...Not at all but I was only in San Jose for two weeks. I missed seeing my friends in Las Vegas and naturally driving a car but those complications were offset by all the new experiences.

You'd visit again how soon...I'm going to return next week. The first trip was monkey business, the next trip will be about real business. Plenty of opportunities here for the hard-working man. I met several mathematicians who are new to the sports betting industry but who bring their expertise to the risk management side of the business (think in-game wagering). Expect plenty of changes to the international sports betting scene over the next two or three years.

What did you learn that you'll use going forward...I assume most American males living in San Jose are here for either the sports betting industry or the sex tourism, and rarely both. I met two gentlemen, Bill and Steve, who like the ladies and they offered tips on the local sex scene. Pass on Viagra and seek an injection of TriMix (?) was their strongest piece of advice. It's a drug used by porn stars and you don't get the nasty side effects of Viagra. Bill was a retired car salesman from Los Angeles and Steve was a successful retiree from the energy industry in Houston. Both men looked younger than their ages and Steve's words were interesting, "Ten years ago, I was 50 and thinking about my next stage in life. I tried looking for love on one of the dating sites (eHarmony) but the women my age looked old. They not only acted like grandmothers and thought like grandmothers, but they WERE grandmothers. I love the young girls here in Costa Rica."

Overall rating (1-5 stars): Four-and-a-half stars. I'm practicing my Spanish now.

Re: Business trip to Costa Rica

Did you take a spin with any of the local Ticas?

I did not.

Not big on the "pay-for-play" aspects but to each his own.

I've been a participant in the past but I more appreciate the thrill of the chase and eventual kill.

I have one confident friend who says, "Why would you pay to see something when they want to show it to you for free?"

I love exotic women, especially Latin women or "morenas."

Unfortunately, no one is showing me anything for free.

Re: Business trip to Costa Rica

Great trip report.
3 questions and then 2 observations with a question.
Would you or are you planning on living there?
Out of all the sharp people you met what was the constant that they all shared?
What kind of work will you be doing? Do you feel youll enjoy it?

Don't bet while on vacation. I know thats easier said than done. I have alot of regrets in this life that I have chosen as do all of us.

I was in Brazil for 13 days with 4 of my closest friends in august of 2014. I was studying college football and betting MLB. I honestly could not tell you if I won or lost while in Rio. I can tell you that I saw a lot of great places, beaches, hiked the jungles however every night 3 or 4 would venture into the nightlife and come home with the craziest (mostly great) stories. They saw this happen, saw this band, club, tried this streetfood, met these girls who did this... I could tell them Tulane was to be faded and were a under only team. I loved Rio but have always felt I saw a entirely amazing place but never experienced the entire culture.
Ive planned on returning to Rio since the moment I left. No notebook will be boarding.

Ive yet to meet a live bettor with just one bet on a game. It feels to me the bankroll requirements to be successful in that area would likely be quadrupled. Ill leave his name to be but a former poster/retired sharp still dabbles occasionally with live betting and he is out for blood with nba totals and the entire art is attempting to find that middle. Tracking pace, possession per shot attempt, turnover ratios, shot selection, d eff. All the while keeping a eye on the flow of game and score.
It seems like a humungous amount of work being applied on EVERY game and it is. This person is liable to have 20 seperate wagers before the end of a 3rd quarter. His risk is 5x what his normal unit is by the end. Now its also impossible for him to lose every bet and of course therell be those times. He has under 225 and over 205 but also the times he has over 199 and under 201.5 etc.

Is it the future for bookmaking because they are banking on the average punter not being dedicated enough to put forth the necessary effort? Or is it the future because its a unconquered market and competitors will be a step behind and not willing to put forth the resources and thought to go through with it?

Trip report from San Juan Del Sur, Nica june 20th on the way. It's my best friends 40th and he owns the resort costa del luca its a party of 30 I believe. Of the 30 is his fiance, 6 of my best friends, his family and 22 strangers to me but whom he has become close with. We have had pho every friday for the last 15 years (when hes in town which is around 8 months a year nowadays) and have traveled the world together.
I told him that I will have to do some research while there and he agreed that was fine as long as I agreed to one night of drinking (i dont drink) and one night of mild hallucinogens (also dont do any drugs) and in return I get a office I can work out of. My trip report might be a tad hazy and a whole lot different than yours!

I started on college football last week in a serious manner (OC and DC hires) I cant give away a ton with the company you keep JK.
You like the big schools anyway:) I think NW will be a very boring offense in '18 & Fitz has his biggest challenge since 2012ish.
Clemson will go from 4 NFL DL to a NFL qb and 2 5* and one proven WR and probably the best OL in the ACC. Dabo would kill to have Chad Morris back.
Shop Alabama futures.. they were actually down last yr compared to 15, 16 and have a schedule that Id be shocked to see them ever lay less than 10. Worst case scenario youre holding a +275 with tremendous hedging opportunity as the chances of them not making the final four are about as good as you giving Javy a warning in the next 3 months.
Thanks for the words alot to ponder in this thread.
Buena suerte para ti, Leche

WILLY LOMAN: "Life is not fair. My life in Costa Rica is a perfect example. I'm making ten times more money than a Costa Rican making a good wage (by C.R. standards) on a road construction crew and believe me, he's working ten times harder than me."
Always thought it was strange,when calling in a multi G bet to an off shore book operator who was making way less per annum than the wager value;
life is unfair...

We play 10 a point chuette and 15 in singles. I have the best of if against one and neutral on the other but he has a cube advantage (math guys lol) but we move up in stakes if someone gets stuck and requests it. In 6 months I have had a -48 point deficit and +112 point session never exceeding 16 on the dye and never playing longer than 5 hours. Told you it was gamble heavy! If youd like we can play online or on any of the backgammon apps set the stakes and pay via paypal if you are interested. Im not going to sandbag I can play some and pay a sum.

I play 30/60 limit hold em where gambol, gambol is the mantra of half the table for the past 8 years. Im full of fear I just have a higher pain tolerance than I once did. Pick a site and we can play for 1-5 a point if youd like. Preferably a site with a mobile app that accumulates score. I can play at the table if its slow if thats ok.
Not interested in anyone who has wins tourneys as part of his handle. I do battle with him 4 months a year already he gets 11 to my 10 as it is.
