Chalk Talk...College Football Observations and Thoughts Moving Forward after Week 1

Tom Herman has issues. His QB was only 21-39 and his run game averaged 3.9 yards per carry. They were 3-15 on 3rd down and committed 10 penalties for 102 yards and had 3 turnovers. This is against a Maryland team that should have been in turmoil. Matt Canada road the waves with Maryland and got a big win for this team.

UConn's defense is so young without athletes that playing teams in the uptempo game is going to be an almost impossible mission for this team to stop anyone. They can't tackle in space and look for plenty of overs in Uconn games.

Colorado St is poor on defense. No surprise here when you look at their depth chart. Going to be a long season with very few covers.

Add what you saw this weekend to help us moving forward.

Hawaii's Rolovich deserves early mention in Coach of the Year discussion. He changed the offense + made it more wide-open. Soph QB McDonald became 1st NCAA QB to throw for 400+ in each of 1st two starts.

And how did u like those ATS covers? Two comfortable wins as DD Dog.

And Chucky G, add OVER to the Hawaii equation.

If Hawaii, then over.

Rolovich learned the run-and-shoot system from June Jones who learned it from Mouse Davis.

Great point about UConn's defense.

Coaches don't seem to understand the critical chain of circumstances between a team's offense and a team's defense.

Watching ND's DL manhandle the Mich offense last night is a recurring trend with Harbaugh - His OL hasn't stood up to physical teams, yet he wanted to play smashmouth all night. Could be the fundamental reason he is 0-fer vs Sparty and OSU.
