CPAC Straw Poll winner Ron Paul

"Beck/Paul 2012!"
The revolution lives: Ron Paul stormed to a big win in the CPAC presidential straw poll.

The libertarian hero -- whose faithful followers packed the hall for most of the conservative conference's three days -- took 31 percent of the vote. Mitt Romney, who had won the last three straw polls in a row, came in second, with 22 percent. Sarah Palin, who didn't show up to speak here, was third, with 7 percent. Tim Pawlenty -- who did show up -- was just behind her, at 6 percent. So was "undecided," which also got 6 percent. The other runners-up: Newt Gingrich, 4 percent; Mike Huckabee, 4 percent; Mitch Daniels, 2 percent; Rick Santorum, 2 percent; John Thune, 1 percent; Haley Barbour, 1 percent; write-in, 5 percent.

That didn't please the crowd in the ballroom as the results were announced -- the room booed loudly, and cheered wildly for Romney, Palin, Pawlenty and pretty much anyone who wasn't Paul.

Nearly 2,400 people cast ballots, out of about 10,000 CPAC attendees. More than half of them were between 18 and 25 years old. One other figure stood out: 2 percent of respondents said they approved of the job President Obama is doing, and 2 percent also said they had a favorable impression of both Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. Presumably, they were joking. Or Democratic plants.

The results don't really mean much; as one GOP pollster told Salon just as CPAC started, "Winning a straw poll two years before Iowa, New Hampshire and the rest is the equivalent of being homecoming queen in high school. It's pretty neat and means you are popular right then, but it doesn't mean anything for the rest of your life."

And it mostly just shows that Paul, who has about as much chance of winning the GOP nomination in 2012 as Obama does, has a very devoted following among the conservative activists who flock to gatherings like this.

GOP pollster Tony Fabrizio, whose firm conducted the survey, did find that 53 percent of respondents were not satisfied with the possible field of candidates -- which only helps underscore the fact that 2012 is a long way off.

Re: CPAC Straw Poll winner Ron Paul

Everyone knows that Paul won't get in, but the concerning part of this is the high level of support for Romney. He has more connections to the Wall Street and corporate elite than any of them. It would be like having Henry Paulson as President - constant bailouts, greed, and submission to corporations. If you think Obama is bad, wait until you see Romney.

For everyone who is concerned with Palin, we are better off with her than Romney. At least she is somewhat separated from the Wall Street elite at this time. The Republicans shouldn't make the mistake of supporting Romney in their primaries, as it would be the same type of mistake that Democrats made in supporting Obama over Hillary.

Ron Paul Only Hope to Prevent U.S. Hyperinflation

The National Inflation Association is thrilled that Congressman Ron Paul won this past weekend's annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) straw poll of who CPAC members think will be the Republican nominee in the next Presidential election. While the mainstream media was quick to dismiss the straw poll results, there were 2,395 ballots cast in the straw poll, a CPAC record. The avalanche of articles coming out today in an attempt to discredit Ron Paul's heroic efforts in Washington, show the ignorance of the mainstream media, which has lost touch with the educated American public.

One of NIA's top 10 predictions for 2010 was that we would see a move this year towards a Libertarian third-party. Although Ron Paul is a member of the Republican party, he is a true Libertarian at heart. Ron Paul's win at CPAC demonstrates that the Libertarian movement is beginning and NIA members are at the forefront of it. By helping spread the word about our documentary 'The Dollar Bubble', which has now surpassed 510,000 views in less than three months, NIA members have done more to educate the American public about the real crisis ahead than all mainstream media outlets combined.

In Washington today, we have 100 Senators and 434 Congressmen who spend their days arguing back and forth about whether to raise or lower taxes. Federal taxes, as a share of the U.S. economy, have remained relatively flat since the end of World War II. The phony charade between politicians about taxes is being played out in an effort to distract Americans from the upcoming threat of massive inflation and potential hyperinflation.

We have one Congressman in Washington today, Ron Paul, who understands that inflation is the biggest threat to our economy and how the Federal Reserve and our fiat money system is the root cause of all our economic problems. The Federal Reserve's manipulation of interest rates create the booms and busts, which transfer wealth from the middle class to the rich, while taking away our liberties and freedoms. Without the Federal Reserve, Washington would be forced to live within its means and all Americans would enjoy a higher standard of living. Unfortunately, the worse the U.S. economy gets, the more money the U.S. government spends. Americans will soon feel the pain of our deficit spending as massive inflation begins to take hold. The need to elect Ron Paul as President will soon become evident to all.

The only way it will be possible for us to prevent hyperinflation from occurring in the U.S. is to replace most people in Washington today with newly elected representatives who will act immediately to dramatically cut government spending in every way possible. Besides electing Ron Paul as President, we need to elect Peter Schiff and Rand Paul to the U.S. Senate, and support other politicians who believe in our cause. NIA is pleased to see that Sarah Palin has now endorsed Rand Paul in the Kentucky Senate Race; hopefully she will support Ron Paul for President as well.

NIA members understand the dangers ahead and how to invest appropriately in order to prosper during a hyperinflationary depression. However, our profits in gold, silver and agriculture won't mean anything if our country is no longer worth living in. NIA believes most of our investment ideas will increase in purchasing power no matter what because massive inflation is inevitable, but hyperinflation is what we need to prevent if we want to avoid a societal collapse and the death of civilization.

President Obama has been deceiving the American public by not allowing Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac's $6.3 trillion in debt to be on the U.S. government's balance sheet and is now trying to redefine a balanced budget as to exclude interest payments on our national debt. With interest rates at their lowest levels possible, interest payments on our national debt are guaranteed to rapidly increase in the years ahead. Eventually, they are likely to rise to a level where more than half of the government's tax receipts go towards paying the interest on our national debt.

In 2010, it is estimated that about 40% of the U.S. government's tax receipts will be spent on defense. The U.S. military empire now consists of 700 military bases in 140 countries around the world. Although NIA believes the defense of our country should be the primary responsibility of the U.S. government, our defense spending is now almost as much as the rest of the world combined. Obama's proposal for a three year U.S. government spending freeze beginning in 2011 is irrelevant because it excludes defense spending. The more we spend on perpetual wars, the more bankrupt our country becomes, making us less safe as a result.

History will look back at Ron Paul as the George Washington of our generation, because of his courage to protect the U.S. Constitution. If we followed the constitution, only gold and silver would be used as legal tender in the U.S. and the Federal Reserve wouldn't be allowed to exist. There would be no bailouts of financial institutions on Wall Street that recklessly speculated in order to pay themselves huge bonuses. Financial institutions would be regulated by the free market and the threat of failure.

Government regulations are not the solution to economic problems, they create new problems that politicians try to solve by implementing more regulations. This endless cycle of doom has destroyed the free market that made the U.S. the superpower it is today, but soon will no longer be. We are rapidly approaching a U.S. dollar death spiral with every passing day. Please continue to spread the word about NIA to everybody you know so that we can all work together to help prevent the dollar's day of reckoning.

Please spread the word about NIA and have your friends and family subscribe for free at: http://inflation.us

Poker Group Elated Following Overwhelmingly Positive Reception at CPAC

by Rich Muny <!-- Article Start -->
The Poker Players Alliance ? a million-member strong grassroots organization that defends poker rights ? cosponsored the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) for the second consecutive year. Poker players, still reeling over past efforts to ban online and other forms of poker, have been actively reaching out to conservatives for support for their right to play, and cosponsorship of CPAC is part of this outreach effort. They were pleased at their reception at this year?s event and feel support for their position within the broader conservative movement will continue to increase.
Displaying the confidence that a year of solid wins on Capitol Hill has earned them, the PPA went to CPAC ready to take on the dwindling minority who would ban poker as well as those who believe poker rights ought not be a conservative concern. They came armed with handouts on why principled conservatives ought to oppose a big government prohibition on online poker, copies of pro-poker articles by George Will, Walter Williams, and Jacob Sullum, free t-shirts, and 2004 World Poker Champion Greg Raymer, who was on hand to sign autographs.
2004 World Poker Champion Greg Raymer at CPAC

They also showed off the alliances they have with many within the conservative movement, including FreedomWorks, CPAC straw poll winner Rep. Ron Paul (video of Rep. Paul backing PPA?s position), and Americans for Tax Reform.

ATR?s Grover Norquist Visiting the PPA Booth, with PPA Grassroots Director Drew Lesofski

Attendees were very supportive of the agenda of the poker group. PPA Executive Director John Pappas said hundreds of attendees stopped by to offer their support, while only one person expressed opposition. Pappas further stated that poker players have sent hundreds of thousands of letters to Congress in support of their rights, an amount that often eclipsed issues like health care and banking reform.
Following the events of the first day, PPA, BigGovernment.com, and Americans for Tax Reform co-hosted what Time called the ?coolest? party of CPAC. Held at Medaterra, a restaurant within walking distance of CPAC, it included Andrew Breitbart, Michael Flynn, James O?Keefe, Grover Norquist, and Greg Raymer. Time reported that the open bar got quite a workout. From the event:
Andrew Breitbart and me

Michael Flynn and me

James O?Keefe and me

The second day was equally positive for the poker rights group. 100% of attendees who stopped by the PPA booth that morning were supportive of the group?s agenda. Then, a college-age attendee from Focus on the Family ? who advocate for a national prohibition of all forms of poker (online, card rooms, home games, etc.) ? stopped by the booth. Expecting opposition, I asked him for a comment. Requesting anonymity, he told me that he supports the right to play poker but supports Focus on the Family in other matters. Curious, I went to the Focus on the Family booth and asked the two youthful (under 40) representatives there if they personally wished to ban poker. They replied, each with a smile, ?no comment.?
Unlike older social conservative leaders who grew up in progressive eras and who seem to cling to their belief that big government can bring about positive changes to society, perhaps younger social conservatives are learning from their experiences with the problems caused by big government. One imagines that they have seen the corrupting impact of big government and that they would rather protect values from big government than entrust big government with them. Only time will tell

POLL WATCH: Ron Paul for 2012, LEADS Obama 46% to 28%, Among Independents!!!

Submitted by BleuCream013 on Thu, 06/10/2010 - 22:03 in
Snip from the latest Public Policy Polling Data:
One thing that's very interesting about these numbers is that Ron Paul is the most popular out of the whole group with independents. They see him favorably by a 35/25 margin. The only other White House hopeful on positive ground with them is Romney at a +2 spread and they're very negative on the rest: -5 for Huckabee, -16 for Gingrich and Palin, and -17 for Obama. All five of the possible GOP contenders lead Obama with independents, but Paul does so by the widest margin at 46-28.
It has been easy in the past to write Paul off as irrelevant but this anti-politician climate is giving his movement some steam. Paul's going to have an interesting choice in the next year or so. If his goal is really to be President rather than to influence the national dialogue then he should probably keep on trying to win the GOP nomination, as improbable as that might be. But if he wants to guarantee himself a major role in the 2012 contest he should run as a third party candidate instead. Polling at 5-10% nationally in the general election would get his views a much wider airing than just trudging along through the Republican nomination process and hoping to get 10-15% in each primary.

The entire electoral process on the national level is a carefully orchestrated elaborate staged production, the impact of ordinary citizens on the outcome is miniscule.
Candidate A or B can't solve the big problems anyway they can just frame them a little differently, like an ad campaign for a new deodorant does.

The bigger picture here is that his beliefs are ideas are being more widely accepted and understood

The best picture in the video is the one where he is squaring off against Obama, for the battle for the youth in this country

Hopefully he is making an impact on them, and snapping them out of their socialist, statist, indoctrination, and teaching them about free markets, liberty, and sound money. :thumbsup

Media Already Marginalizing Ron Paul Presidential Campaign

We are at the very beginning of our nation's most important Presidential election season in history. Historically in all Presidential elections, taxation has always been one of the top issues. The Republicans always call for lower taxes, while the Democrats say we should tax the rich more and cut taxes on the poor and middle class. The truth is, taxation today means nothing when the real U.S. budget deficit is now more than twice the government's total tax receipts. Taxation is used to distract U.S. citizens as the Federal Reserve prints trillions of dollars out of thin air, stealing from the incomes and savings of all Americans.

NIA's number one goal during the next year is to educate as many Americans as possible to the truth about the U.S. economy so that come the 2012 Republican primaries and general Presidential election, inflation is the number one issue on everybody's minds. During the 2008 Presidential debates between President Obama and John McCain, Obama did not use the word inflation once. McCain used the word inflation only a handful of times, but spoke about taxation nearly one hundred times. When McCain mentioned inflation, he said that we need to make it easier for students to borrow larger amounts of money to attend college due to inflation, when it is actually the government's willingness to provide easy access to student loans that is causing tuition inflation.

In the 2008 Presidential election, Americans did not have a choice to vote for an anti-inflation candidate. Although polls in late-2008 indicated that the majority of U.S. citizens were against the government's bailouts of Wall Street and artificial stimulus bills, both Obama and McCain were in support of them. Despite Ron Paul doubling McCain's fundraising in the 4Q of 2007 and raising $20 million, ending the year with $7.8 million in cash on hand while McCain's campaign was broke and in debt, the mainstream media manipulated the minds of Americans into voting for McCain as the Republican nominee, when it is Ron Paul who would have put a stop to Congress' reckless, dangerous, and destructive spending that can only be paid for by borrowing and printing money.

Since Obama was elected President on November 4th, 2008, the U.S. dollar has lost 48% of its purchasing power. Americans today spend 48% more for gasoline than they did the day of the last election. Americans today also spend 105% more for sugar, 78% more for coffee, 58% more for corn, with similar gains for many other agricultural commodities. The U.S. government and Federal Reserve created all of this inflation in an attempt to reinflate the Real Estate bubble, yet the median U.S. home price declined by 2.4% during this time period. Meanwhile, the real unemployment rate has increased from 16.8% to 22.3%.

The media worked tirelessly in 2008 to marginalize Ron Paul's Presidential campaign. After every Republican candidate debate, FOX News would have a text message and online voting poll on who won the debate. Ron Paul would overwhelmingly win most of the polls, with hundreds of thousands of people voting, yet the FOX News hosts wouldn't give credit to Ron Paul for winning the debate. They instead would claim that their own poll was somehow compromised and manipulated by tech savvy Ron Paul supporters. Ron Paul supporters did not manipulate FOX News' polls, FOX News and the rest of the mainstream media manipulated the minds of their viewers into nominating John McCain who had the exact same viewpoints as Obama on every economic issue, except that Obama said he would tax the rich slightly more than McCain (big deal!).

The media is already beginning their massive campaign to marginalize Ron Paul's Presidential campaign for the Republican nomination in the 2012 election. After the first Republican debate on June 13th, Bill O'Reilly referred to a snap poll that declared Mitt Romney the winner with 51% of the vote and Ron Paul the loser with 0%. The very fine print on the screen said that 54 people voted in the poll that Bill O'Reilly was using to declare Romney the winner of the debate. So when hundreds of thousands of real voters support Ron Paul in a FOX News poll, the network's hosts downplay it and claim that their own poll was rigged; but when 54 Washington insiders vote for Romney and 0 vote for Ron Paul, Bill O'Reilly gives credibility to that poll in an attempt to influence his viewers into believing Ron Paul has no chance of being elected!

The mainstream media has already hand selected Romney to be their nominee in the 2012 election. No matter where you look this week, the headlines read that Romney raised $15 to $20 million in the second quarter, most of it coming from bankers on Wall Street. Meanwhile, Ron Paul has raised $4.5 million from grassroots supporters, more than Tim Pawlenty, Jon Huntsman, or anybody else that has reported so far, but nobody gives Ron Paul any credit. All of the articles written about Ron Paul call him a "long-shot", solely in an attempt to manipulate the minds of voters.

Romney's millions of dollars in donations are coming from those who benefited from the Federal Reserve's unconstitutional and criminal acts of stealing the wealth of hardworking middle-class Americans through inflation. Romney has made it very clear that he won't discuss the Federal Reserve and that he believes Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke is doing a good job. The fact is, unless we address the Federal Reserve and the endless monetary inflation they are creating, no other issues matter at all.

Some of the people who benefited from the Federal Reserve's bailouts are hedging their bets and not just supporting Romney, but are supporting all of the Republican candidates other than Ron Paul. Jack Welch, former Chairman of General Electric (GE), yesterday declared Romney, Pawlenty, and Huntsman the three "real contenders" in the race for the Republican Presidential nomination, saying that, "each of them has their pluses and minuses". Welch gave no mention of Ron Paul, despite the fact that he raised more money than Pawlenty and Huntsman last quarter. Welch in the same interview called Bernanke a "hero during the crisis". After all, GE would have gone bankrupt due to Welch's reckless management of the company if it wasn't for the U.S. government backing $139 billion of GE's debt during the financial crisis.

Bill O'Reilly has been trying to portray Ron Paul as some kind of a lunatic, when O'Reilly is clearly uneducated about the economic issues that matter today. In a shocking display of just how incompetent O'Reilly is, he recently played a clip of Ron Paul speaking at the June 13th debate about how the U.S. dollar as the world's reserve currency has become our main export in return for all of the real products we import from countries like China and Japan. O'Reilly said he was "very confused" by what Ron Paul was saying. O'Reilly apparently thinks this is normal and will be sustainable continuously forever. To see this shocking video of O'Reilly's incompetence, simply go to our recent blog posting at: http://inflation.us/blog/2011/06/bill-oreilly-clueless-about-economics-and-inflation/

Glenn Beck, the only person in the mainstream media who has called NIA a credible organization and has referenced our food inflation report on the air on many occasions, recently left FOX News to start his own Internet television network. With Glenn Beck leaving FOX News, the balance of power has now shifted. If you combine all of the major alternative media organizations on the Internet, they now have larger reach than the mainstream media news organizations on television. Due to this shift in power, NIA now truly believes that a candidate like Ron Paul has a chance of actually winning the 2012 Presidential election.

In order for our movement to succeed in electing a real President like Ron Paul in 2012, we must all work together. Americans need to realize that the real war isn't CNN, MSNBC, and the Democrats vs. FOX News and the Republicans. The real information war is alternative news organizations on the Internet that speak the truth along with politicians who believe in Austrian economics and protecting the U.S. Constitution vs. CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, the New York Times, Time Magazine, and the rest of the mainstream media, which spread false propaganda in order to support the Democrats and Republicans that have been brainwashed by our nation's colleges with Keynesian economic principles, and have put our nation on the brink of hyperinflation.

Re: CPAC Straw Poll winner Ron Paul

I would never vote for Ron Paul. To begin with, I would be very hesistant to vote for a Republican, especially one who has been with the party for so long. The Republicans did nothing but destroy the economy and cause conflict internationally during the Bush years. Now they are on an anti-labor crusade with no other ideas.

Also, as Joe said, Ron Paul has not accomplished anything in all of his years. His son Rand Paul also has an anti-worker agenda as a Senator - I wouldn't be surprised if Ron is the same way since the two of them have the same ideas in many areas. If the only alternatives to Obama are out-dated and useless candidates like Romney and Paul, I don't see Obama having any problems getting reelected.

Most policy think tanks don't get involved in politics no matter how "right" a political candidate may be on the issues. For example, while its common knowledge that the Brookings Institute leans left, you don't see them publishing partisan cheer-leading columns favoring one candidate or political party over another. There's good reason for this.

National Inflation Association

"The National Inflation Association is an organization that is dedicated to preparing Americans for hyperinflation and helping Americans not only survive, but prosper in the upcoming hyperinflationary crisis."

*snip*

"Our goal is to help as many Americans as possible become aware of the disaster we are rapidly approaching. In our opinion, the wealth of most Americans could get wiped out during the next decade, but it will be an opportunity for a small percentage of Americans to become wealthy by investing into companies that historically have prospered in an inflationary environment, such as Gold and Silver miners and Agriculture producers."

Why would an organization serious about preparing Americans for hyperinflation throw itself into a three-ring political circus? Whether they like it or not, the NIA has now hitched their credibility to a political candidate. If the media suddenly discovered Ron Paul had ties to white supremacists (he did), the NIA would be damaged in the process, even though it has nothing to do with the stated objective of the organization.

Hell, even Glenn Beck isn't dumb enough to hitch his brand to one party or candidate, and instead has wisely chosen to focus on economics, history and constitutional principles.

Very stupid, amateurish decision by the NIA. 2938u4ji23

I have heard Ron Paul speak and he sounds no different from other Republicans on the labor issues. When listening to these Republicans, you would think the world is coming to an end because some workers are able to negotiate for health benefits and defined benefit pensions from their employers. If Republicans put half as much effort into preventing outsourcing and reducing military spending, we would be in a much better position. Instead, Republicans continue with their agenda of creating the largest lower class in the developed world.

Thanks to Pelosi's new minimum wage, the unemployment rate for young people is well over 25%. Another progressive job killer!

Hope and Change!
If we could just get the wages down to what they pay in China and Mexico this country would be great again!!

So would you rather have virtually full employment with no minimum wage, or the status quo of 25% unemployment with a minimum wage? Right now the government is literally forbidding young people to work!! :doh1

Remove government from the economy and people's money would actually be worth something again, so wages could be less than 1/4 of what they are right now, while increasing purchasing power. Seriously, what good is a minimum wage if the cumulative effect of all this socialist garbage is driving our currency into the crapper and all the wealth overseas?

You know what minimum wages are good for? Unions! (Surprise!) Unions increase their member's wages every time the government arbitrarily raises the minimum wage because they negotiate it into their contracts, which does nothing but increase production costs = higher prices for the consumer.

Minimum wage laws are nothing more than feel-good nonsense offered up as yet another vote-buying scheme by condescending progressives.

They have full employment in China too but for some reason all they have is rich and poor over there so why is that??Why do they not have utopia over there Joe??Why do corporations go there??
If minimum wage helps the unions then why have the union wages gone down??Tell this tale to the guys starting at Ford for $14 an hour and get back to me.

Give it 10 years.

China's ongoing reforms toward a more capitalist economic model only began in earnest in the 1990s when they started privatizing state companies. They are now second only to the United States in GDP and gaining fast. However, the country is still very much backward and repressed socially, so there are many non-economic variables which will inhibit their growth (China's one-child policy, for example).

A better example of laissez-faire capitalism vs America's current Euro-style social democracy destroying our wealth and standard of living, would be Hong Kong and Singapore. Both are freer economically than America with an unemployment rate below 3%.

Why do corporations go there??

Because the Chinese aren't over-regulating businesses and redistributing their profits for someone else's political benefit.

If minimum wage helps the unions then why have the union wages gone down?

Because union wages are unsustainable.

Tell this tale to the guys starting at Ford for $14 an hour and get back to me.

$14 an hour is well above the minimum wage...so why do we need a minimum wage again? :+clueless

What if a student can't find a job, but a small start-up company with very little capital would gladly play him/her $6/hour? Why should the government prevent that student from working? I guess for that student to be idle on food stamps is better for socialists than productivity, right?

Of course it is, because people on food stamps vote for the socialist parties.

For progressives, its not about freedom and economics, its about politics and power.

All sounds nice but the truth is that they go to China for the slave labor!!Plain and simple!!Now if a corporation stays here they have to lower the wages they pay to compete with the slave wages of China. It is the race to the bottom that benefits only the corporations.
How can you say union wages are unsustainable when the corporation that signs the contract agrees to it??Are they saying sure we will sign that contract even though we are going to lose money???Does not happen in the real world !!
