How could eog Maximize its potential

Re: How could eog Maximize its potential

ATS hit the nail on the head on a few points.

The loss of Neteller may not necessarily cripple the offshore books(Granted-it sure as hell doesn't help, but cripple is a strong word), but it has more or less crippled the revenue stream for forums.

The days of people being funded within minutes at any given book are pretty much gone, and that took a lot of potentially profit making opportunities away with it. Bonus whores, scalpers, number shoppers, etc....big, big hit to all of them.

Sucks, but such is life.
I don't really play much anymore due to neteller being bye bye. It's not worth the hassle of getting in and getting paid . it sucks

Re: How could eog Maximize its potential

Yessir days of the fresh fish hitting the click thrus are long gone. No time machine, no help. I'll probably be around until the lights get turned off. I lost 6 different revenue streams when UIGEA went down. Not the first time I have got the rug pulled out from under me in this business, just the most revenue lost.

Best Wishes...OF :+waving-5

I wish the best for The Shrink, mo and the mods either way.

That's for sure, I hate doing the WU or MG thing more than losing-well almost.

Re: How could eog Maximize its potential

What if a forum had one guy who was hired just to get peoples money in to them. Someone who could keep a decent amount in different books like betjm/greek/bookmaker and then that person could receive payment from a poster and make a transfer for them. Cuts out the expensive fees associated with WU/MGs.

It sounds good in theory, but you know as well as I do about the stiff thing that goes around here. Don't know how it sets with the feds-booking etc., but maybe a way to insure the funds could help. But it would have to be absolute, no bullshit.

As long as you can trust the person you are paypal'ing the cash to, sure. I think it could for sure help. I'm also in the target market. I prefer to post up, but even since Neteller went down, I rarely bother. Too much work and other easier ways to get down.

Re: How could eog Maximize its potential

Well it would be a representative of the site. Like I could have some large amount in betjm, I recieve a paypal of 500 from poster cee, I then transfer 500 to his account. I could also keep a decent amount in paypal and if someone wins, they transfer the funds back to me and I pay them out via paypal. Betjm has some pretty simple withdrawal methods though.

Hmm, I like the idea, BUT- The hard part would be getting someone that everyone trusts in charge of the money handling part, there would also be the legality of moving the $ that person might have to worry about.

You need to get some boos to sponcer some contest like they do across the street. The BTp and NBA contest are really good and have some really nice prizes.

I have suggested it before and will again for the last time. If EOG wants to survive it has to become international!! The US government has closed down most of your old advertisers off shore. But hello. Their is a world out their beyond the gold old US of A. And strike me down people gamble on sports in other countries. Shit even some of the international sportsbooks may want to advertise.

You just need to grow your poster numbers from out side of the US and market yourself to the international market. Not rocket science

Be careful about having an EOG money processor service. That’s the kind of thing that can bring down the whole site. Not only would the EOG representative go down, but it could make The Shrink a target for prosecution as well because it’s his site. It’s just my humble opinion and I’m not a lawyer but besides the obvious UIGEA law being broken, it’s not hard to imagine charges of money laundering and conspiracy to commit various related crimes being tacked on.

Re: How could eog Maximize its potential

Will Hill has been reported to be currently offering even odds that online gambling in the US will be legalized during Obama’s presidency (I haven’t checked the site myself, just going on what I’ve read in the news). If you are looking for a ray of hope for forums like this, that may be it. The US sports bettor on the other hand is facing regulation as the only way out of the current conditions and the early suggestions for how any regulation may be implemented have been odious. I’m interested to what how easy it will become to move money to offshore (and/or unregulated) books if the US does allow certain approved and regulated books to operate.

Re: How could eog Maximize its potential

Oh fuck it. Here ya go.

Respectability is key. Having stiffs on the payroll and allowing stiffs into contests keeps people away. Just a fact. Stop the practice and start to grow.

I've gone over the SEO thing a thousands times here. If your not spending 4k a month on it your probably not doing something worthwhile. Servers alone cost money but the real money needs to be spent in SEO. Without new people the sponsors don't get new depositors.

EGO said it. EOG has to set aside a few people to promote elsewhere. As a former forum owner(you can ask all you want but I won't tell you what I owned) I found succsess in college school boards and found posters from there that would promote online and on campus for a minimal fee and brought 100's of new people in. These folks have mom and dads money and a ton of time, so they are the new generation to bring into the online gambling community.

Contests: Sure EOG wants post up contests. But a Sunday night baseball contest that wins say a 50.00 free play at a book, gets the newbie to sign up and on the sheet. Max the payout at 200.00 after 6x rollover to diminish the books exposure.

Land based marketing: Whens the last time that we all got new shirts? You have to spend money to earn money in this business at this time. Sure Ken has spent thousands. He may have to spend more and get aggressive when the chips are down. Most companies are laying off. But the succsessful companies have obtained money and have started to acquire other companies. There are more than just EOG that is struggling. Swoop up a few of these other small forums and bring over their core people and start to regenerate that.

Stop talking in public about the finacial struggles of the site. Makes it look like the site is on it's last legs. Not a comfortable feeling for all the members. People that work here should at least be making 100 or 200 a month. Total payroll shouldn't exceed 2500.00. If all of the sheets are not making that plus hosting, seo, and server costs, there needs to be a major reassessment of the strategy of the entire business model and plan.

Hook up with some hot sports bloggers and get on it quick.
Team up with some Vegas networks and offer travel packages and get a piece of the pie.
Solidify a bases contest and get it announced asap and make it a worthwhile event to attract newbies. Find them and find the newbiew quickly.

These are just opinions. But again like EGO said. Not many of these suggestion threads every turn into anything other than discussion and the people that took time to write these things up, get discouraged with both these threads and the site itself.
PEACE!

STB.

Yep....

Laundering money through Paypal or a similar site that is VERY unfriendly to the US Gambling market wouldn't be a very good idea.

Best of luck to you EGO the media room was a great ideal hope they keep it going
Ego implemented the idea of the media room but the idea of the media room was not his orginally. He's done a great job of starting it up and making it happen and it's been a great success and I'm glad it worked out.

Also, Ego's poster earlier in this thread might be the best post I've read on this forum. It's right on cue and everything mentioned would help this board greatly.

Now, the next idea that should be implemented that will set the EOG apart from other forums is it's own poker room. The software is easy to obtain and the cost is very small and posters will love it.

Trust me, they will use it all day every day.

In all seriousness Ego, your post in this thread was well crafted and perhaps the best post I've ever read as far as quality goes on any forum.

What Ken needs is someone w/business acumen, education and real world experience. To help him run this place. Not someone who's resume reads, HS grad & Forum Mod.! As is currently the case. :+clueless

They need that with a little of the forum world expierence. I agree that a educated "business" person would be the choice. The real thing that is needed is a assessment of the business and total market make up. This will allow the owner to see what and where help is needed. While the advertising is going down, the books can't really live without all of the online world being available to them. Now how to you get to the players that are using google and finding the books before the forums? SEO!

Re: How could eog Maximize its potential

They probably do not want to be associated with a gambling site, but with the traffic here I would go after some very different advertisers like Cell companies, netflix etc. Find a revenue stream that is non gambling but wants to advertise where they can get their ads seen.

That would give the site the financial viability it needs without the dependence on the sports books.

Or perhaps some casinos around the United States? I mean come on, you have places all over the world that cater to the exact people on this forum. At the rate some of the guys on here play a place like Circus Circus would kind of be stupid not to pay a few hundy every month to advertise to their target audience. They throw up a banner and it offers a 3 day trip plus room for $250 or something like that. Posters here are always taking trips out to LV and AC so why not?

This shit just comes into my mind so I haven't researched it or anything but it sounds pretty worthwhile to me but hell, what do I know?

Ken doesn't have a professional marketing person or special events person on the payroll (that I know of) but this is the kind of shit they would/should be expected to make happen.

Right,

There are many potential sponsors that are not on any sites that I am aware of. Instead of shrinking the staff :)LMAO), generate higher revenues. Hell I'm in commissioned sales, hire me. I could find dozens of sponsors outside of gambling for the site.

I am hoping this changes in the near future. I have always said you need one person that plays the marketing person as well as the forum liason. This is the person that needs to generate revenue for both ends, the forum and its players as well as those that chose to advertise here. I agree with exploring other options of advertising but also realize it is ultimately up to Shrink what kind of advertisements he wants flying high above the site. Right now in todays economy I still dont believe people are not gambling, however, I do believe more people come to shoot the shit which does not always pay the bills. But like I said I do believe one person is needed to reach out to different advertisers to arrange for a change of scenery as far as advertisers and this person also needs to introduce the forum members to said sponsors, jmo.

Like I said earlier. A trips/vacation section that has special deals for EOG members. Most if not all of Vegas,Laughlin,Tahoe,AC,Alantis and other places around the world would love another advertiser that specializes in gambling. Most of the sites like orbitz are just travel sites. This site is dedicated to the gambler(spender of money at book or tables) and not the casual traveler/casual gambler. I can see 100's of us eventually using this function if we are able to get some special deals.
When I got out of the forum ownership the next venture was something like Florida vacations and things that I'm familiar with since I live here. It's a work in progress nonetheless. But for EOG to be functional and prosperous it'll need outside revenue and I can't think of a better one than one with gambling like a vegas trip.

This is actually much cheaper than most think. The problem with this is deposits. How to make em' and how much rake to take. If a processor could be set up easily where we could use our debit/credit card this place would be off the chain in regards to poker. Who wouldn't play small games while watching the scoreboards?

Whats wrong with sending Western Union and getting a check Fed Ex to you at your house? I can have a book funded in less than 15 minutes and usually it only takes about 4 days to recieve a check.
