Hi All, I hope i will have a good time on this forum!

I'm new to this game and forum, but I just bought 3 poker books, and I'm gonna start to study this game. Escpecially the Texas holdem variant during my vacation of a few months :)

Just want to know if you guys have some various tips for me before I start registering at online rooms? I am planning to deposit 200 dollars straight away on a suitable room.

gr Maarten :)

The best thing to probably do is concentrate on one thing. If you don't have much money online then there will probably be less variance and less bankroll swings if you play SNGs. Cash at low levels can be maddening and you can go a long time without binking a tourney to get your bankroll up. I assume you're Dutch or something so you can play on Stars. So probably play SNGs and move from that to bigger buy-in SNGs or to 90 and 180 mans. Those are like faster tournaments and will give you an idea at how to play at all stages.

The books you have are good. If you play SNGs then get a basic book like Sit 'n Go Strategy by Collin Moshman. If you want to play tournaments then Gus Hansen's Every Hand Revealed is really helpful and Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand At A Time Volumes 1-3.

I'm sure there are cash game players here who could tell you what books to read. Also you can join a training site with videos (most usually have a trial) which can be really helpful.

Good luck.

Good advice LCD. I have Doyle's Super system & Super system 2. These are the bible of poker. Really good reading. I think you just got play and pay your due just to learn the game. I play in Bookmaker and DSI poker room which is USA friendly. Good luck in the online poker room. Pro is you can play anytime you feel like and you don't have leave the house. Cons you got request to get your money then wait. another con you can't read ppl like in live game. Good luck to you

If you are a complete newbie, play money can be an option. I used to try to test the water on Poker Stars' Play Money, but actually the game there doesn't look anything like a real game. People just go all-in all the time, you don't do that when play a real game. Checking virtual casinos can be an option, too. And VODs, of course. To me, it's the best way to get a grasp of things and learn stuff from solid regs.

If you're new to the game, play money is nice, as someone has already suggested. You can even try real money with no deposit bonuses. You should know there are many online poker rooms and casinos offering this type of service, but what you should probably focus on is the one that suits you the best in terms of intuitive gameplay and response rate, because if the casino game looks bad and you don't like it, you'll lose focus from the cards in play.
