I know a lot of people in the banking industry and I've been hearing a lot of rumblings from banks being very unhappy. I was told they have spent an estimated $15 billion trying to figure out what to do with this law, monitoring payments, etc... That seems like a lot of money but really isnt when you are talking 100s of banks... It would not surprise me at all if the major banks hit up congress early this spring. It also would not totally surprise me if a huge bank (Citi, JP, GS, etc) simply decided to move offshore.... They've already got many of their funds offshore to avoid investment rules. Being centered in the USA is becoming more expensive every year. If you were a $200billion bank would you not move? There is not a huge advantage to being in the US anymore with the entire world internet based. A bank with a well known name would take a very small hit in credibility by moving and there are many many countries that would be happy to headquarter any of these companies.
If a couple banks and their taxes moved, you'd see some serious accomodating moves made by the government.

Bank of American is/or is planning on giving BoA credit cards to illegal residents in the US. Illegal residents can work, obtain health insurance, driver's permits in California.
I hope you are right and the system allows US residents to send money to a legal (in the respective soverign nation) business enterprise.
It's pathetic that US citizens can use youbet for the ponies, but forget it when it comes to sports.

I've got a friend in Atlanta that is a manager of a restraunt chain, he's had a few illegals work there, one of which has been in the US less than two years, made a hair above minimum wage, yet has a Home Depot credit line, and has another credit card with a 10K limit..humorous.
As for the current state of sportsbetting industry affairs..
TVG, Youbet, and the US Horse Racing industry having carte blanche, also the benefits of video poker, and the ability of users betting via dish tv remote controls, is comically hypocritical.
Then again, so are casino ads behind homeplate of MLB baseball games, WNBA games played in casinos, etc..
Circle K donates millions to Jerry's Kids every year, made from peddling cigs to the soon cancer-ridden, booze to drunks, porn to pervs, candy and ice cream to the obese..yet the cops outside it's doors bust thugs dealing dope.
It's all the same shit(poison), just man has decided which and by whom this poison can be dealt..all for a piece of the action.
Well, the same goes for all forms of gambling, as most politicians are just mindless cronies that don't know squat about the vast majority of which they legislate, they are largely PAC and/or Partisan-puppeted hypocrites.
Hypocrites that make for laws, laws that make for what I'm sure are some conflicted Policemen, Fed Agents, Judges, etc..that must try to make sense of the hypocrisy, the confused state of the legal and moral ambiguity,etc..

Sean I don't think you have any idea what you're talking about. These banks aren't moving offshore in any way shape or form! They are very comfortable with the USA banking laws and aren't just ready to move offshore. For what purpose? To satisfy gamblers who may make up 1/1000 of their business>?

I am at a conference that just wrapped up. Some big players in the industry basically said there is little hope for relief soon. Maybe we should play the contrarian and say they are right. However if we are to consider them experts nothing is going in the right direction now in the US. If anything there are a couple more dominoes to fall which is quite scary.

However, my view is also colored by the complete utter incompetence & mismanagement of the situation by neteller also...the folks in charge of this company are complete idiots...

They've stolen (allowed the US govt to freeze) funds of the US patrons...
They are in the process of handing over the personal & private transactional data for all US players after promising confidentiality...
Neteller HAD plenty of money and could have paid off the US players easily...a lousy 55 million is less than 2 months profits for neteller & is pocket change...
They are looking for a reason to stiff the US players and the US funds are bargaining chips for the release of the founders..if they were motivated to pay the US players, they easily could have long ago...
