<HR style="COLOR: #2b295e" SIZE=1><!-- google_ad_section_start -->I saw this very interesting show on mideast history on public t.v. tonight. I never knew that prior to hitler there was very little anti-jeiwsh sentiment in the arab world. WWII approached at a time when the british and french were the occupying western powers throughout much of the mideast. In a situation as simple as "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" the nazis were welcomed in these places and they of course brought with them their hatred of the jews. After the war, with no where else to go, the jews coming from europe, in a sense, jumped right back into the frying pan when the United Nations established the state of israel and the rest is a history bloody war and struggle since the oh so thoughtful arabs couldn't make room for the un partition of the land for the remants of european jews after hitler.
Ironcially, it's really got little to do with a muslim homeland as israel was Judea, the home of the jewish people for more than a thousand years before the muslim faith was even established. The muslim prophet and founder muhammed never even set foot in jerusalem and the holy city was and is in reality of little consequence to the muslim faith. While Jerusalem is mentioned 700 times in the holy bible, it is not mentioned even once in the Koran. As we know, it's Mecca, not jerusalem that muslims face while praying. What happened to bring the mess we see today, I believe, was the arabs seeing israel as an extension of western colonialsim in concert with attitudes learned from the nazis allowing them to see jews as "undermenschen" thereby making them deaf to jewish concerns and excusing any atrocity. It doesn't matter that the jews had nowhere else to go; that israel has been the jewish homeland for more than 4,000years, that the state of israel is like a postage stamp in relative size; or that there are five million jews as compared to 500 million arabs. The rhetoric of hate handed down by the nazis makes it impossible for the arabs to see the jews as people and the slander and frauds they put out is remarkably similar to nazi lies and propoganda. They are not a colonial power as they occupy that tiny sliver of land and having nowhere to go to but Judea after wwii. Worst of all, i fear israel is on the brink of annihilation as the arab countries are getting up to speed technologly, on the verge of possessing nuclear weapons, and far out number the israelis making them the winners in any war of attrition.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
