Legendary Gambler Billy Walters Pardoned

We need to tap Trumps phone and find out who Billy likes. Imagine Trump walking into Treasure Island, give me 10 million on KC. Sorry sir, this game is circled you can have $500.

I’m glad to hear that
I always had the impression BW got a very raw deal
and that Phil Nickelson was a scoundrel.

I am not a big fan of BW, but it is true that Phil was a snitch-ass.

In Phil's favor: Billy Walters should have been VERY reluctant to involve a non-professional criminal in his activities. Non-pros are the most likely to fuck up the plans, and most likely to fall apart if they get caught.

Here's an interesting story from a well-placed source involving Billy Walters, Floyd Mayweather and the Aria Resort and Casino:

Floyd, at the behest of "BW," contacted Aria Resort and Casino to receive approval for three wagers of $500,000 apiece on weekend football in 2012.

The Aria loosely agreed to the terms of the wagers without knowing which three teams Floyd would play.

Floyd at the time had posted various big tickets on Twitter and Instagram.

His action on teams like the Raiders, Rams, Lakers, Clippers and Dodgers pegged him as a regional sports fan and recreational handicapper.

But Billy was behind Floyd now.

And so, Floyd stepped to the sports book window at Aria, looked up at the current prices on the wagering board and declared, "My first play is the New England Patriots minus the points."

No problem.

"My second play is the Pittsburgh Steelers minus the points," declared the confident Mayweather.

Book it.

After "considering" his third selection for 30 seconds or so, Mayweather sporting his best poker face and channeling the crafty Billy Walters, said, "And finally, gimme Eastern Michigan plus the points."

In the end, I believe Aria rejected the Eastern Michigan bet.

Billy has a long reputation for manipulating football games in that part of the country.

I remember one summer Don Best promoted the Mid-American Conference from the added board to the main rotation.

Some Las Vegas bookmakers wondered privately how that happened.

Think "BW."

Lady Gaga on stage. Singing National anthem. I think Rudy G. sang the Russian anthem for Trump. Can't recall if he also sang the National Anthem?

Unreal as smart as these 2 guys are in general that they both made that mistake.

Ray, Trump has been gone for 45 minutes. Any reason why my Trump bets are still pending? Are your clerks dialing up your 3rd party grading service. Damn pay me $20,000 a month and I'll provide you my service. Why should I be doing it for free?

BW is one of the greediest motherfuckers in the world. All you sharps and wannabe sharps should wish his ass was kept in jail as long as possible. If not for the greed of a handful of people in this business you wouldn't see the $500 or $1000 limits, but that's never going to change. Literally the Koshers, the Pokers and a few other groups basically thought we can make tens of millions from businesses that could make tens of millions. They basically wanted everything sports books could feasibly make. Now if they went after the mob's books then great, there was plenty to make, but guess what would happen to the syndicates if they went full bore after the mob's books?

Interesting perspective, Bill.

It has been said that BW has never played a fair game in his life.

Even the roulette table in Atlantic City where BW made his first big score was biased/rigged.

No telling how many Clark County commissioners were in BW's pocket during his Las Vegas heyday.

Its important to tell the whole story JK. Many admire BW because of what he could accomplish, which is a reasonable first thought, but no one thinks of the other side of the business. So many bettors want to tell me its them against the bookmaker in mortal combat, but in reality bettors needs bookmakers to operate and earn a profit, or else where are you going to get your action down? This was something the great Lem Banker said repeatedly, but people like BW and the big syndicates told Banker to go to hell, they were going to go earn millions and do everything they could to take every dollar from bookmakers.

This is at the heart of the problem with the game of poker too and has been for decades. There are two kinds of good players in poker, the skilled guys who have total disrespect for the less skilled or unskilled, and the skilled guys who know who makes poker a game that can be profitable. Amazing how many people are completely disrespectful to unskilled people at the poker table, its like they completely missed that lesson that without bad players you'll never make money at the game. We ought to heed the same lesson in the sports betting world as well, if we chastise or shame the unskilled, the people we love to fade, we're just limiting our future profits. And its goes all the way up the chain, the most talented bettors ought to be encouraging the unskilled to bet regularly, within limits of course, with the books out there because without them this whole game is going to shrivel up and be nearly unbeatable.

All good points, BILL.

We see the same phenomenon in horse racing where a lot of the sophisticated rebate players are gouging the eyes out of the weekend warriors in the grandstand and clubhouse.

The $2 foot soldiers are losing at a faster rate than ever before because the computer groups are able to earn a 1 or 2% percent profit on millions of dollars wagered.

Never kill the goose who lays the golden egg and in this case, the goose is the recreational horseplayer who keeps the game alive with his weekly, monthly or yearly contributions.

In the sport of horse racing, the racetracks regulate the action.

Years ago, the tracks partnered with the big-money players in the form of substantial rebates to tilt the advantage in favor of the rebate boys over the weekend warrior.

When two parties are gambling at significantly different takeout rates, it's only a matter of time before the higher-taxed, less sophisticated player goes bust and -- soon thereafter -- leaves the game altogether.

Totally agree JK. Racing is a weird animal these days, greatly subsidized by gaming taxes. I'm sure it would have shriveled up and died without it because the good players would have long ago put the bad players, the audience really, out to pasture and the business which depends on them would have been gone. I have heard a few big greedy sports bettors take this view as well, that the sports books are subsidized by the casinos and they can afford to lose money on sports betting. As if any business out there is going to gladly take losses caused by customers who aren't patronizing the other side of the business where they do make money.

Same thing applies to all sports betting

Gone are the days where you could find an extra point, or more at a book elsewhere. On football weekends you would always see people making the 20 second run across LV Blvd. from the Stardust to the Riviera books to try and get a better number. Not any more.

Jan 2, 1992: I will never forget placing a wager on UCSB over Pacific. My friend and I got UCSB "Pick" for the game. UCSB pulled out a miracle win by 1 with 2 seconds left. I cash my ticket at the Stardust then run across to the Riviera to cash a few more. Both books were empty. I WILL NEVER FORGET seeing a "UCSB -1.5" ticket laying on the floor. For a nice chunk of change. That one moment almost 30 years ago taught me how important it is to get the best number or not bet at all. WHAT you bet is far more important than WHO you bet

Hypothetical question. Would you rather sleep with Jennifer or Melania?

J Lo - no question asked.

Melania looks like she would be a cold fish in bed. She looks like the kind who would lay there and demand you orally please her and then only do boring sex. I sense she is a "vegetarian" in bed - doesn't eat any "sausage." Although knowing she has not had any sex for at least the last 4 years - and probably longer - she might be ready to "let loose" - doubt it. Too bad because her earlier "work" she showed she was a "switch hitter" who liked to take an at bat at both sides of plate.

J Lo might not be much better but she would be better. Knowing who her fiance is (BTW - they are never getting married to each other) she is probably a kinky little slut who is a freak in the sheets or wherever.

Regarding A-Rod, if anyone has some time read the short story on the lawsuit filed by his ex wives brother,
a former business partner. A-Rod makes Isiah Thomas look like a choir boy.

I laugh when I see him as a investor on Shark Tank. He knows nothing about business. But meets
the cash qualification I guess.
