Mike Valenti assessment of the Detroit Lions vs Cleveland Browns

Very good top of the show.

My question to all, what is your feeling of the Lions playing on Thanksgiving year after year?

Ford Motor is one of the largest sponsors of NFL football, which is why, in part, it goes on.

This was one of Valenti's better rants against Detroit, especially at the end of the segment.

Originally from NYC, he has no ties to Lions football or the area, other than being an alumnus of Michigan State.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

The Thanksgiving game should have been taken away from the Lions a long time ago, at this point it doesn't even matter anymore, the game will get big ratings for the obvious reasons, but if they played this annual game on a Sunday every year, no one would watch it or care

I have tickets but refuse to go. I can't even give them away. I went to the Bengals and Eagles games and it was some of the worst football I can ever recall.

Almost Allright

GO Bucks!!!
Valenti, who may be one of the few humans on earth who hates Xichigan more than me; is taking Xichigan on the money line. Can’t wait to hear that breakdown tomorrow

I have one of the oldest hatred of Michigan that dates back to the obscure "sport" of hydroplane racing. Big rivalry in the 50's and 60's between Seattle (Lake Washington) and Detroit (Detroit River).

I’m in one of two counties in Michigan where the team of choice isn’t Mich or Mich St - it’s Notre Dame.

Go Buckeyes.

There is still hydroplane racing on the Detroit River to this day!

It should be taken away for punishment of 66 years of mediocrity. You can thank trust fund Billy Ford Jr for the Lions still playing on Thanksgiving. He begged the owners not to take it away and they let them keep it. Fuck Jr and fuck his 100 year old Momma and dead shit father.

Sheila Ford Hamp, the sister and daughter of Martha is actually the one in charge these days.

P.S., for those who may not know this tidbit of trivia, the day JFK was assassinated (11/22/1963), was the day William Clay Ford acquired the Detroit Lions

They have had 4 eras of relative success. Early Greg Landry, Billy Sims, Barry Sanders and Matthew Stafford (with MAGAtoon) eras. Each era, teams good lick enough to contend for the Super Show but choked in the playoffs.

I've witnessed only one good game at Ford Field in the 20 years they have called the place home, and that was in 2011 on Monday night vs. Chicago. It was deafening in there, and I believe Chicago started the game with 3 false starts in a row. We won the game, and I believe the Lions moved to 6-0 to start the season. The following game was the Schwartz vs. Jim Harbaugh handshake mishap at the end of the game.

I was lucky to be a guest on EOG's show that JK did after that game, it was a lot of fun. Wish I kept the recording.

I remember that night, 300.

You gave us an interesting history lesson on Detroit sports.

About the handshake mishap: I always chuckle at the amount of time it took for Jim Schwartz to realize he had been disrespected by Jim Harbaugh.

Harbaugh won that mental battle.

Valenti has the gift of gab.

Beautiful pace and prose.

He loves to use the phrase, "Run the game right."

I love that line.

Rehashing the minutiae of an NFL game on the radio only works in the home market.

Talk about late-game 50-50 or 60-40 decisions of an out-of-market NFL game and you will lose 80% of your audience.

Never like when a sharp host of a radio program uses sound engineers or technical directors as contributors to the show.

Dan Patrick's "Danettes" do not interest me.

Detroit head coach Dan Campbell is learning on the job.

Speculation from Valenti: "Is he (Campbell) trying to lose?"

About 300's question involving the Lions playing every Thanksgiving Day:

I appreciate tradition.

Some don't want to see the losing Lions occupy a high-profile television time slot, but I find it just as interesting to follow a losing franchise as a winning one.

Besides, attach a point spread to the Thanksgiving Day game and the Lions have a 50-50 chance to win the game in the sports betting world of 11/10.

WC Ford bailed out drunken Eagles owner, Len Tose, when Tose was playing two-handed blackjack at $100,000 per hand in the 70s. Tose's family later sued the casino seeking to recover his losses alleging that the casino had taken advantage of him.

I couldn't agree more with you JK, that sort of background sound doesn't serve any purpose, and to me is very annoying.

I looked back at the Lions schedule for 2011, they were 5-0 after that Monday night game. They lost the "handshake" game was the start of a 2-5 slide. They went 3-1 the final quarter of the season losing the division and a chance at a home playoff to the Packers and Matt Flynn who cashed in big time after this one game wonder. I believe he got a very healthy contract by the seahawks?

The only argument Lions have to keep Thanksgiving is tradition and look around. Tradition is no longer a valued commodity in our new woke society. Lions Thanksgiving was built on William Clay Ford Sr white supremacy! So it's time to either pick another permanent team or shuffle teams. Have the NFLe pick matchups that are high value like they do in the NBAe.

Same reason why I am a Kesha hard no on the new USFL. Stop with this sequel noncents. The original USFL was special needs and impossible to ever duplicate unless you can make Bobby Hebert and Anthony Carter 25 again.

Could the Detroit Lions and Dan Campbell have been embarrassed on national tv anymore than they did today? Fox called Campbell out many times. Back to Back penalties to give Chicago an easy play at a first down??? Any other organization, this would be unacceptable, and this ass clown would be one and done. But these are the Lions, they held on to Matt Millen for 6 years longer than any other organization, so I guess this is what we Lions fans have to live with.

2nd head ball coach in a row had promising pedigree and high expectations and again turns out to be a total shithead. The Lions as an organization should be folded but as a start, no more Thanksgiving. There has to be some punishment for 65 years of fucking bullshit.

If Carr ml and over, Lions cost me 4-0 rooster start. Had 2 chances for the j dagger touchdown. Both became 3rd and 32.
