The opening odds start here
Minnesota/Atlanta over 4.5 -115:
Most of you who are following the EOG CG know that this is my play tonight for the game's entierty total. So I like it as much to qualify for the over in the total for the first 5 innings. The Twinkies (40-39) are coming off a stretch where they took 2 out of 3 at Comerica this weekend and are holding onto first place in the AL Central a game over .500, and find themselves just 2 games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians. Yesterday in a 3 run clinching 10th, Royce Lewis went 3 for 4 including a go ahead RBI single in the 10th, another RBI single by Willi Castro, and another RBI hit by Christian Vasquez to lift Minnesota to a 6-3 win in 10 innings over the Tigers. Lewis went 3 for 4 scoring 2 runs and driving in one while Castro and Vasquez each had 2 hits. Same with Donovan Solano who hit a 2 run HR, his third of the season. Zack Mckinstry hit a 2 run double in a 3 run second that put up the Tigers 3-2 after 2 after Kerry Carpenter's RBI single. Bailey Ober lasted 6 innings but earned a no decision despite pitching 6 strong and giving up 3 runs on 5 hits walking one and striking out 8. Griffin Jax pitched a scoreless 9th with the game tied at 3 and improved to 4-6, while Jhoan Duran earned his 11th save. in 13 chances (85%), Michael Lorenzen went 5 innings and gave up 2 runs on 7 hits walking one and striking out 4 for another no decision. Brendan White took the loss in extra innings allowing 3 runs on 3 hits in the 10th inning. Minnesota now travels to Atlanta for a 3 game series. The Braves took 2 out of 3 in Cincinnati including a 7-6 win yesterday at the Great American Ballpark. Matt Olson hit a go ahead 3 run HR in the 7th inning, his league leading 25th and drove in 3 of his 60 RBI giving Atlanta the lead for good. There were 19 HR in the 3 game series which drew a Cincinnati crowd over the weekend of over 126,0000 fans. Ronald Acuna went 2 for 6 scoring a run on 2 doubles, and Marcel Ozuna went 1for 3 driving in 2 runs with a single. Atlanta has now won 17 of their last 20 and their win Saturday stopped a Cincinnati winning streak of 12 games. Charlie Morton surrendered 3 runs on 7 hits over 5 innings, walked 3 and struck out 7 despite improving his record to 7-6. Raisel Iglesias pitched a scoreless 9th despite giving up 2 hits for his 12th save in14 opportunities (86%). Randy Wynne took the loss in relief allowing a run on 3 hits through 2 1/3 innings. Matt McLain went 4 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 5 RBI despite 3 doubles and his 5th HR of the season.

Spencer Strider (8-2 3.93) takes the mound for Atlanta (50-27) this evening. The 24 year old rookie has not had his best stuff over his last few outings, touched up for 15 ER and 15 hits over his last 15 IP (9.00). Strider is tied for 2nd in wins with Clayton Kershaw and Justin Steele. He faces a Twins lineup batting a very pedestrian .232 overall despite averaging 4.3 runs per contest and 103 HR good for 4th in the AL. Their offense is about consistency up and down the lineup, and Solano (.277 3 19) leads the club in BA with his 2 hits breaking a 1 for 15 slump (.067). Castro (.256 5 15) is 4 for 11 (.364) over his last 4 games. Byron Buxton (.206 13 27) is one of 5 Twins players in double figures in HR, leading the club in that category despite hitless over his last 11 at bats. Carlos Correa (.216 11 37) leads the Twins in RBI but went 0 for 5 yesterday ending his 3 game losing streak and is not putting up numbers worthy of his 6 year $200M contract. Michael Taylor (.213 10 24) has just one hit over his last 20 plate appearances (.050).

Minnesota counters with Sonny Gray (4-1 2.56). The 33 year old 9 year righty has looked fairly sharp over his last few outings giving up just 6 runs and 14 hits over his last 14 innings (3.86) walking 8 and striking out 13, however tonight may be his toughest test of the season. Atlanta leads the majors in batting at .271 and is tops in the NL averaging 5.6 runs per contest along with a major league leading 139 HR. Ronald Acuna (.328 16 47) is second in the NL in batting, tops on the Braves with 103 hits, third with 16 HR and third with 43 RBI. He's batting .321 over his latest 6 game hitting streak. Sen Murphy (.290 12 43) is hitting .545 over his last 5 games hitting safely in 4 of them. Eddie Rosario (.275 13 37) is batting .480 over his last 8 games hitting safely in 7 of them. Ozzie Albies (.266 18 55) is second on the club in HR and RBI hitting .333 over his 6 game hitting streak that ended yesterday. And what can you say about Olson (.236 25 60) who has been crushing the daylights out of opposing pitching and brings in a modest 3 game hitting streak into tonight's action (.385).

We get a reasonable price this evening as both teams seem to have production and balance in their lineup. However, the Braves have won 85% of their games over the last 3 weeks and show no signs of slowing down as they lead the second place Marlins by 6 games in the NL East. Nothing but sunny skies in the hotlanta area with temps in the upper 80's with a Truist Park breeze of 10-15 MPH. The venue reminds me a lot of Fulton County with straight away on average of about 400 feet and about 325-335 to the corners and 385 to the power alleys. Strider is looking to regain back to his early season form, and has a distinct advantage over Gray who hasn't made as many starts but could have his work cut out for him tonight. We look to break a 3 game losing streak tonight and with the help of offense on both sides to meander closer to a GC payday. Best of luck however you play!
