Monday Night Football: Ravens v Raiders

Greetings from Las Vegas where the hometown Raiders will open their 2021 NFL season tonight at Allegiant Stadium with a tough assignment against the well-prepared Baltimore Ravens.

Kickoff time is set for 5:15 p.m. PT.

The road Ravens are a 4-point choice with a total of 50.

It's Jon Gruden against John Harbaugh.

Gruden always seems to win pregame press conferences with his series of one-liners and nonstop football jargon, but Harbaugh is likely to win tonight's postgame chat.

Strictly from a performance perspective, especially recent form, give the edge to the no-nonsense Harbaugh.

His teams always seem to fire in Week 1.

Over the past five season openers, the Ravens have outscored their opponents by a cumulative score of 177-26 for an average score of 35-5 or thereabouts.

That's getting in done on both sides of the football.

Gruden is adored by idolizing fans and sycophant media, but a closer look at Gruden's second stint with the Raiders reveals a 19-29 record over the past three seasons.

Optimistic supporters argue the arrow is pointing up for Gruden.

After a debut season of 4-12, Gruden then went 7-9 in 2019 before last year's mark of 8-8.

In 2018, the Raiders finished fourth in the AFC West, then finished third in 2019 and second last season.

Again, diehard followers point to the improving positions within the division.

Fans look at the bright side, gamblers focus on the right side.

Raider Nation loves to live in the past by discussing Super Bowl titles from the 1976, 1980 and 1983 NFL seasons.

After all, the Raider faithful cannot discuss any recent achievements.

Here's the cold truth from the hot desert: The Raiders have recorded only one winning season over the past 18 years (10-6 in 2016) and it appears a record of 8-9 is far more likely this season than a 9-8 mark.

Even better, since their loss in the Super Bowl they have made it to one playoff game which they lost.

Anyways Fuck Raider Nation, bunch of losers anyways.

Except it's Baltimore Kane. The one team who needs them. Lamar Jackson sucks. He isn't a good QB.

Gruden isnt going to get beat deep.

I didn't say the Ravens didn't need RB's, I said these days they're mostly interchangeable, whoever plays tonight and going forward will produce pretty much the same as the guys who are out

We'll see. I'm high on Abram this year because I believe he played it safe all last season returning from injury.

It's going to be hell. Typically I agree with you on running backs being not as important. I just don't like their backs. Guys like Murray who only been with the team a few days and some 2nd year guy Williams will not be threats. Gruden can set his team up perfectly. They won't get bit by these chumps.

Identification is required to attend tonight's game at Allegiant Stadium.

No such requirement in place to vote in the state of Nevada.

Lamar Jackson is a terrible quarterback and a great athlete. He will never develop the skills to be a good passer. He is so physically gifted that an injury aside, he may establish a relatively lengthy career as teams will always be susceptible to his big plays.

Watching him throw a leather ball is extremely painful

Hard to defend that game though, as long as his body holds up they will be a tough out in the playoffs. Can tell they are trying to protect him more and make him stay in the pocket longer, but whenever he gets out of contain he seems to have a 15 yard run in front of him

I didn’t watch it, but the play by play shows 3rd down at opponent’s 4 yard line, FG wins it...go for FG on 3rd down to avoid issues with the snap.
Throw it in the end zone, where a defender has even a 1% of an interception?
What am I missing?
Am I Crazy?
Wait, I’ll rephrase that...is Gruden crazy?
Was interception off a defection?!

I need to put some vodka in my orange juice because I have a 1.4k payout parlay riding on Yastremska in the wta who has been playing awful.

Until he gets hurt. Hopefully he won't have an RG3 like rapid descent.

8:20 PM EST. There will be much pomp & circumstance, pyro & ballyhoo and likely even a little shake, rattle & roll tonight in Vegas. The Raiders will finally have a proper homecoming since moving to the desert. Allegiant Stadium or as it’s more fondly named, "The Death Star," will be packed with fans that are going to be ready to blow off a little steam. When the dust settles after all the hoopla, where does that leave us?

We’re not going to bother with a breakdown of this matchup from a game planning perspective because you can get that in bulk from any outlet of your choosing. Instead, we are going to talk about the human element. It cannot be taken out of anything and because of that, issues or situations that most reasonable, caring adults would consider being morally bankrupt get far more attention or traction than they should. It might seem innocent at first, but as with any smolder a flame can soon form. Then a fire rages.

Football, or any team sport for that matter, most certainly has a human element to it. Watch an ESPN 30/30 or an HBO Special or anything else that follows the plight of a team or player. Family is mentioned dozens of times and we’re not talking blood. We’re talking about the family inside the locker room. Athletes always refer to their teammates and coaches as brothers or family. It’s always “about the team”. These guys go to war for each other on a weekly basis. They win together, they lose together and it becomes a fraternity that lasts a lifetime.

Yesterday, three unvaccinated, high profile quarterbacks took the field. If you want to include vaccine critic Ryan Tannehill, and we will, as he let the virus rip through his household, including his unvaccinated wife, who begrudgingly got the jab, that makes four. Would you like to know how their teams fared? 0-4 while being outscored 116-69. Nice. There was Kirk Cousins, Carson Wentz and Josh Allen.

Enter Lamar Jackson. Twice infected with COVID and still unvaccinated. Why does this matter? For one, the quarterback is supposed to be the team leader. Second. There are restrictions on unvaccinated players that keep them segregated from their teammates during the week which limits their interactions greatly. That’s not a way to build a bond. Do you think the five hogs upfront who ARE vaccinated want to block for a selfish motherfucker? We’re not saying nobody would let a man slip through on purpose but subconsciously, that extra effort that one cannot explain when the game is on the line and a play needs to be made might not be there when one is not willing to run through a wall for their pivot. We’ll leave it there for now, as this is a situation that we will continue to monitor. We preach about “in-game variance” often, well this is “off-field variance” and it cannot be ignored. In other words, if he’s (the QB) not willing to protect us, why should we give a fuck about protecting him? Unvaccinated players cause a divide inside the locker room. Now think about yourself for a minute. Do you want to go the extra mile for an unvaccinated friend, relative or colleague? Do you want said person around you or your children? Again, you cannot take the human element out of anything.

As for this game tonight. You can keep the points. Mark Davis, much like this father and Raiders patriarch, Al (just win baby!), has equipped his “family” with the best state-of-the-art facilities to practice in, review film in, workout in, and play in. He’s provided his family with all the tools to give them the best possible chance. The Raiders have a home and we promise you that there will be a home-field edge tonight unlike anything you saw this weekend. Think Golden Knights and times that by 1000.

We’ll leave you with this from Raiders pivot Derek Carr, "If you want an easier way of life every day at the facility and a better chance of playing every Sunday, getting the shot makes that chance go higher. Teams will have to forfeit games if they miss one and can't reschedule — and everyone who plays in this league knows that every game matters." That’s a leader, folks. Raiders outright is the call.

The back injuries hurt BAL.....the timing was off on some of the hand-offs. Murray was signed
Friday.

Backs are interchangeable but timing takes time, that's why it's called timing.
