I wonder if he comes back as a hitter only in 2020.

Didn't he only pitch about 25 innings last year in Japan? Another example of a pitcher with vicious velocity breaking down.

It's a double whammy for the Angels as they lose a great pitcher and hitter

Seattle Ev tonight sure looks inviting to me!
Not me. Seattle first game back a day after playing in Tampa. It has been talked about here how the fatigue and all affects a team more the next day but that is a 2500 mile trip (or about 100 more than LA-Bos) and that can't be overlooked

I guess coming from Minny is not in the equation.

This is a bad loss for all of baseball. What Ohtani brings is awesome

Tough way to win but I'll collect on the under 9.5 wins and under 10.5 HR's.

I don't know what the Halos could have different.
Sure he went deep some games but he was pitching shutouts. Logically it seems the rumors were true....he was damaged goods. And yes he was great for mlb. I saw a video weeks ago where he stopped in the outdoor visitors tunnel to sign autographs on his way as the starting pitcher.

After he was throwing 100+ in Detroit, I was hoping he wouldn't get hurt. Really a tough breat as you have one roster spot to fill, but he was taking on the role of two.

I also have an U 9.5 (E) ticket from Westgate.

Did they officially shut him down?
No. They are holding out hope that he may be able to bat by the end of the season.

Doubtful.

....and now we know why he came to MLB now instead of waiting 2 more years when he woulda been a UFA and signed for many years and 9-figures

So Ohtani cleared to hit with improvement to the UCL but done pitching this season. In other words with no TJ Ohtani becomes part-time DH.

Re: Ohtani To Have Tommy John Surgery...

He can be a full time hitter with a torn UCL. A pinch hit dinger tonight. If the stem cell works they can always bring him in to relieve assuming he's not DHing. It will be a interesting dilemma who ever is managing next year.

Made me laugh after he that home run there was a full minute of asian crowd shots. "We have a group of Filipinos section 217, Camera 3 on them!"
